The Lucifer of Liège[edit]

Hi, Bellatrix. I was looking at pages that linked to the image file for the so-called Lucifer sculpture by Guillaume Geefs, and found your user page. Thought you might be interested in the recently created article on the sculpture, under its formal title Le génie du mal. Cynwolfe (talk) 16:19, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What luck that you might be able to translate the article into French! I should mention that nearly all the direct quotes are translated from French in the first place; I give the French in the footnotes for a few, but the rest should be fairly easy to track down, since I did all the research online and provided links to Google Books and other sources. I try to be scrupulous about citation, but let me know if you can't find something. I think the only three quotes that were originally English were Harold Bloom's, the one describing Lucifer in Eloa, and the travel writer's (but that web page probably has a French version, come to think of it). When I first began researching the statue, I became confused by the existence of two sculptures called Le génie du mal, but then found it fascinating that they were by brothers, and that the first was removed from the cathedral because of its unsettling erotic power.
