Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest[edit]

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 01:55, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Belfast meetup[edit]

I've actually been the museum very recently, but I'd love to join you at the pub- what time will you finish in the museum? I'll meet you out front and walk to the pub with you? J Milburn (talk) 19:47, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bazonka. Please check your email; you've got mail!
It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template.
I'm so sorry I didn't turn up today- my partner was ill which led to a day all over the place and it only just crossed my mind now that I missed it. I really hope some people turned up; if you're still in the Belfast area, I'd be happy to meet up for a drink tomorrow or some other time. J Milburn (talk) 19:27, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I feel absolutely terrible about missing it- I hope you had a day worth having; first drink's on me if we do meet up another time. J Milburn (talk) 19:34, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi- I'm 20 mins from Bridge House and setting off now- should be time for me to buy you a coffee? J Milburn (talk) 10:51, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your question[edit]

I've just replied to your question. Sorry about the slight delay in doing so, it's been an unexpectedly busy weekend.  Roger Davies talk 17:43, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Thanks, Bazonka (talk) 18:09, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ACE question[edit]

I apologize for the delay in answering your Arbitration Committee Election question; I didn't have enough time over Thanksgiving break to sit down and catch up on my questions and immediately upon returning to school I had to prepare for a meteorology exam. I am planning to sit down and do my catching up today and you can expect an answer to your question by 6:00 UTC December 4. Thank you for your patience, and again my apologies for any inconvenience this delay has caused. Ks0stm (TCGE) 17:33, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Belfast event[edit]

Hi- I'm afraid there's no chance I'd be able to get any funding from the university for it at this time of year, but I could send out a few emails over the next week or so and see what I could get? J Milburn (talk) 22:36, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Leeds wiki meet up[edit]

Same venue? Or somewhere else? I was thinking early March, perhaps 8 March? The only thing is that Leeds United are playing Bolton Wanderers in Leeds that day (Yorkshire V Lancashire rivalry) and a lot of idiots could be in Leeds that day. So we could do 15 March instead? I can't do 1 March. IJA (talk) 19:37, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Swansea calling Manchester....[edit]

Hi there! Great wiki editing course yesterday and this morning! Hope things went well with the Mancurians! If you want football lessons, let us know! Llywelyn2000 (talk) 13:18, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

York edit-a-thon[edit]

Hiya! I imagine you've already seen messages about this but just wondered whether you might be planning to join us at the edit-a-thon in York this Sunday? Hope to catch you soon either way? Cheers! PatHadley (talk) 14:40, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No I won't be there I'm afraid, but I hope you all have a good time anyway. Bazonka (talk) 20:43, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

PAR[edit]

I have made a change to the article about participatory action research. Hopefully that makes it clearer. Any thoughts? Yaris678 (talk) 10:00, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good to me! (US spellings though - shudder...) Cheers! Bazonka (talk) 19:18, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - while the George Cross appears on the flag of Malta, it is a separate thing. Regards Denisarona (talk) 06:56, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The George Cross is not a flag and on its own, it would not be mentioned in the article. The only reason it is mentioned is because it is on the Maltese flag. Your added punctuation implied that they were unrelated - this is misleading. Bazonka (talk) 07:06, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you![edit]

Hello Bazonka, I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for sharing your feedback on Wikimedia UK's Virtual Learning Environment. Your comments will help shape the improvements to the system ahead of a wider rollout later in the year. Thank you :) Stevie Benton (WMUK) (talk) 16:08, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

May 2014 disambig contest: let's do it again![edit]

Greetings fellow disambiguator! Remember back in February when we made history by clearing the board for the first time ever, for the monthly disambiguation contest? Let's do it again in May! I personally will be aiming to lead the board next month, but for anyone who thinks they can put in a better effort, I will give a $10 Amazon gift card to any editor who scores more disambiguation points in May. Also, I will be setting up a one-day contest later in the month, and will try to set up more prizes and other ways to make this a fun and productive month. Cheers! bd2412 T 18:46, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Manchester meetup[edit]

The venue choice is moot for me, as unfortunately I cannot attend. I'm a member of a Manchester-based running club, so the Great Manchester Run is quite a big day in our calendar. For the first time in a few years I'm not actually running in it, but I'll be out on the course somewhere cheering on clubmates. Oldelpaso (talk) 21:45, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but I can't attend. It's a bit of a mystery how someone used my signature to sign up for the meet. Perhaps they used my computer when I was logged in but not looking. I've left a similar note on the meet up page. Jodosma (talk) 07:13, 11 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I hate to say it...[edit]

... but I have reverted all your edits on List of Sega Saturn games. Not because your edits are faulty in any way or that I don't appreciate your efforts, but you were fixing problems deliberately introduced by a vandal/sockpuppeteer. The Banner talk 20:42, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see anything particularly wrong with Kevbrook's edits (other than the links to dab pages that were introduced) - certainly not something that I'd describe as "vandalistic". I don't think it is helpful to revert edits made by a sockpuppet, if those edits are actually productive and NPOV. Block the account by all means, but leave the useful work done by the account intact. There is also nothing on Kevbrook's talk page about sockpuppetry. So why did you revert? I think that your revertion was actually more damaging than his edit. (And I'm not just saying this out of sour-grapes because you reverted my cleanup effort - if there was a genuine need to revert then fair enough.) Bazonka (talk) 06:23, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
For more info about the guy: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/NYCSlover. Serial sockpuppeteer. Even with your fixes, he would have added the same text in a few weeks again, reintroducing the links to disambiguation pages again, as he did many times before. A bad edit can happen, dozens of them not especially when they have the same pattern (and often exactly the same text) on the same articles. The Banner talk 09:48, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If somebody is being a sockpuppeteer it doesn't imply that all of his edits are acts of vandalism. And if I can recall it right, I think in the past you have been blocked for calling changes to articles as "vandalism". Dmatteng (talk) 11:00, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
See this The Banner talk 14:00, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't reverted the editor who evaded the block, you reverted another editor who made good-faithed edit. Dmatteng (talk) 14:37, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Train the Trainers refresher 2014[edit]

Hi Bazonka,

Are you going to the refresher on the 28th? I have created a page for it wmuk:Train the Trainers refresher 2014. Signing-up there isn't compulsory, but we can use the page to coordinate and discuss what we want to get out of the day.

Irish Sea[edit]

Hi Bazonka,

I have exchanged a map with wrong bathymetry for a map with correct bathymetry. But also my map distinguishes general ferry ports and freight ports. I beg your pardon, if the term "frame" in the key was wrong.

Best regards, Ulamm (talk) 15:39, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
