Unfuwain[edit]

Thanks for disambiguating Pharos (horse) in this article. That's been sitting there since I started the article well over a year and no-one noticed till now. I'll watch out for other examples as the name crops up in a lot of racehorse pedigrees.  Tigerboy1966  22:00, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! Bazonka (talk) 22:22, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bristol[edit]

I think you will find that Bristol was in Gloucestershire until the county of Avon was invented in the Local Government Act 1972. This is the act that, inter alia, moved my home town from Hampshire to Dorset, amalgamated Rutland into Leicestershire and created Humberside and Tyne & Wear. Britmax (talk) 15:22, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not correct. It was separated from Gloucestershire in 1373 to become a county in its own right - see [1]. This, along with parts of Somerset and Gloucestershire became Avon in 1974, and on Avon's abolition Bristol became a unitary authority with county status again in 1996. So, as far as Nik Kershaw is concerned, he was born (in 1958) in the county of Bristol. In any case, we only really need to state the city and not the county. Bazonka (talk) 15:37, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I bow to superior knowledge. I think the resemblance between the dates 1373 and 1973 (when most of the 1972 act took effect) made me think there was a misprint involved somewhere. Britmax (talk) 15:43, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

definition of the equator[edit]

i find it really strange that, although you saw my changes earlier, you suddenly decided that they were unclear in terms of "wording" only after the anon. user came in and deleted them. The text is fairly clear, and it is very much similar to definitions found in several other sources. If anything is insufficient and unclear, then it is the earlier text that you and the anon. user have reverted to. i'm not going to bother myself with this since the article is inactive and no editors are contributing to it any ways.

Here is a link from another source: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/equator Maysarathustra (talk) 18:13, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand you think that the article is inactive when there are three editors making changes to the lede. Seems like an opportunity for a Talk page discussion. Bazonka (talk) 18:18, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • indeed i think it is very much inactive, or rather, negatively active, when "one user" makes changes and two others revert it for absolutely no good reason :) i opened this at the talk page but, as is the case, it will be only the three of us discussing things which we already have developed conclusions about! [2]. thank you, Maysarathustra (talk) 18:32, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't come to any definite conclusion, and I am quite prepared to reach a compromise. It is very possible that others will join in - let's see what happens. Bazonka (talk) 18:35, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

Sorry, i didnt even notice it. :) --WhiteWriterspeaks 19:00, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I guessed it was a genuine error. Bazonka (talk) 19:26, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

It is good to see fair people around. I am regrettably not very accustomed to meet many such people in most of the areas in WP where I try to contribute. I had to find my near glasses to read better your words in the Mediterranean discussion: "Turkey is part of the 'whole world'. We must reflect their view..." Simple, but touched my heart. Thank you and all the best. --E4024 (talk) 19:47, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Review[edit]

Thanks for doing this review - we are about to have a staff meeting regarding the 2013-14 programme which I can't put off. I worked yesterday on a chronology which I will share as a google doc with you later today after Richard Symonds has sanity checked it! Would be good to talk you through it later. Would you like me to produce some recommendation as a separate document or do you wish to make your own mind up? Jon 10:20, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I'm glad to see that it was well received (at least I think it was). Bazonka (talk) 17:52, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Araksi Çetinyan[edit]

Could you also possibly review this article please? I have some doubts about the sources there, but as I am not a native speaker, I do not want to have accused people of any wrong doing by mistake. Have I understood the case well? Also I think 2 of the three sources only repeat the third one. Right? --E4024 (talk) 21:54, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't speak a word of Turkish or Armenian! I don't think I'm the right person to help with this, but I will maybe have a look tomorrow if I get time. Bazonka (talk) 22:01, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you and sorry I only read the title "review". Never mind the Turkish source; it was a source in English whose text was "probably" misunderstood by a certain user who has made a series of "honest mistakes", in their own words, in contributions elsewhere in WP... --E4024 (talk) 22:09, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll have a look tomorrow. Busy on other stuff now. Bazonka (talk) 22:10, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I have tidied the article up a bit - mostly removing duplication. But the 2nd reference was just rubbish. It's gone. Bazonka (talk) 18:26, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I believe more than ever now that this subject is not notable at all. I wonder why we feel obliged to make an article for a person who was supposedly elected (who were the other participants; who came second or third; maybe she was the only one?) and then the contest (which was not official and serious per one "academic" source, a contest that received the "ironic smiles of the press and public opinion" per another, a good source in Turkish) being invalidated because the winner was "favoured" and her title retrieved; never went to "the finals?" in the USA; for whom by an "honest mistake" (one of a series by the same editor) we used the photo of Miss Europe 1952 Günseli Başar etc... All the best and thanks again. --E4024 (talk) 23:32, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bazonka, you signed up to the WMUK training event but the venue has changed. The response from the community is that a different location would be easier for volunteers to get to. As such the training session will be held in Manchester on the same dates. If you are still able and want to attend could you please confirm as much in the sign up section so we know you'll be there. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 15:07, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Splendid. A much more practical approach. Thanks. Bazonka (talk) 17:26, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Bazonka, the details of the venue are now on the UK wiki. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 13:55, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
We've finalised the list of attendees and you're amongst the 12. See you there! Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 11:19, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Pact[edit]

Hi, I saw your edit on the dab page and the JP template: in fact the article had been moved to The Pact (novel), which seems an OK title, although the editor didn't do any followup of updating links. I've re-updated the JP template, fixed the dab page, and left a note on the editor's page asking them to tidy up the other links they've broken! PamD 10:35, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks. Bazonka (talk) 12:51, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

February 2013 disambig contest.[edit]

Greetings! I'm giving a prize of up to a hundred dollars to the winner of the February 2013 disambiguation contest, and lesser prizes to the rest of the top four. Of course, the conditions of the contest will make it quite a challenge to win the full amount, but I hope to stimulate competitiveness with a little extra incentive. Cheers! bd2412 T 21:03, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orientated[edit]

I didn't stop to notice the linguistic orientation of the Mediterranean article, but I will take your word for it - though I'm glad you agree that either form of the word in question is unnecessary in that sentence.Textorus (talk) 19:36, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on County of Montfort (Vorarlberg), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo, or other unlikely search term.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Training the Trainers[edit]

Hi Bazonka, we're looking to finalise numbers and I just wanted to confirm that you're still interested in attending the event on 23-24th February? Thanks, Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 20:13, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'll be there. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks, Bazonka (talk) 20:16, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. As 18 people have registered their interest and there's only space for 12 we're in the process of chasing up who can come and who would need accommodation (arranged by Wikimedia UK). Would you need accommodation? Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 12:13, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, I will stay at home. Bazonka (talk) 13:44, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

List of countries that border only one other country: Revisions this morning[edit]

Good morning Bazonka,
Thank you for reverting my additions made this morning so promptly.
Just making "a point", really.Cheers! –

Cut it out[edit]

You have my word here, and if you don't believe me, I, unlike you, have pressing content creation issues to constantly deal with. GotR Talk 20:08, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss at WP:ANI. Note that deleting threads from that page will do you no good. Bazonka (talk) 20:10, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Both of you stop. There is no need to get so heated. Going to AN was probably overkill. But now that you have there is no point bickering. Try working it out calmly. -DJSasso (talk) 20:11, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Have you seen how many articles he has spoilt? This is definitely ANI territory, especially as he claims to be doing nothing wrong. Bazonka (talk) 20:14, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe it is. I am just suggesting cooler heads to all. :) -DJSasso (talk) 20:15, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have promised to decease, so would you, Bazonka, simply get in a right mind? This is the height of irrationality—having a "if it rains today, it most certainly will tomorrow" inductive mindset. You are free to RVT, but there are much better things for you to do. Oh wait, you didn't have much of that in the first place. GotR Talk 20:18, 12 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Egypt[edit]

Why are we listing Egypt as recognizing? - Canadian Bobby (talk) 20:22, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Turkish source says that it's been announced - WP:VNT. This is obviously not cast iron proof, but I think it's probably true. Hopefully a decent Kosovan or Egyptian source will be available soon. To be perfectly honest, I would prefer to wait, but other people are only going to keep adding it. We may as well have it added properly (albeit with a slightly questionable reference), than have IP's do half the job. Bazonka (talk) 20:31, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The german source is the best one. 79.243.208.181 (talk) 20:41, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Special Barnstar
Diolch yn fawr... Many thanks from Wici-cy! Llywelyn2000 (talk) 06:54, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note that I've now just finished writing around a thousand towns and cities of England on the Welsh Wiki. I've added the distances from... data; which was an added bonus. Many thanks: sorry I took so long! This now allows me to concentrate on the lochs of Scotland, if you have anything eg co-ordinates, nearest town, area of loch let me know. PS I've lost your email! Diolch yn fawr. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 06:54, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Barnstar! I'm not sure if I've got anything on lochs, but I'll have a look and let you know. Cheers, Bazonka (talk) 19:35, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just written around 7,000 stubs on villages / parishes in England on cy. It would be great to add the distances from Cardiff and London; can you help? Llywelyn2000 (talk) 11:23, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry! This request slipped under the radar. I'll get back to you soon. Cheers, Bazonka (talk) 06:32, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
