Francophone[edit]

Hi AnthroGael- I saw your edit summary for French language and wanted to point out that not everyone defines the word "francophone" as meaning native speaker of French. Here's the AHD definition. -Eric ^(talk) 14:27, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing this out. The AHD definition does leave my interpretation open to question, but IMHO it is not the best source to use. Nevertheless, in checking Webster's and my personal preference, Oxford, the term seems to be accepted as sometimes referring to second-language speakers. This strikes me as odd, as I would never refer to myself as a francophone, but the point is well taken. Still, I don't think it is unfair to presume many people would interpret the word in the same manner as I did. Consequently, I think my edit would leave less confusion. What do you think? I think your edit is fine--just wanted to note the francophone def. I don't hear the word too often in the U.S. anyway--probably not in the U.K. either--so it's probably better as "French-speaking". I'm guessing that in and around Québec, the word "francophone" might have come to be used more commonly to indicate the person has French as a first language. -Eric ^(talk) 15:58, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Montreal Article[edit]

Hello AG, I see you've put a cite tag here, do you have any contrary information? I ask because Montreal was a recent candidate for Good Article status and failed, partly because of lack of citations. As a result, we have placed a general {{refimprove}} tag at the top of the article asking for citations throughout. Do you have a specific citation to help clarify your tag? Hi Franamax, sorry, I don't have contrary information, which is why I did not edit any of the material. However, it seems at least questionable to state that Montreal's gay village is the largest in North America without a citation to back it up. I have heard, from unofficial sources, that both New York and San Francisco could quite easily lay claim to this title ahead of Montreal. I am not saying that Montreal's claim is necessarily wrong, I just want some reference to back it up. AnthroGael (talk) 18:01, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Diabetes mellitus type 1[edit]

My motivation is somewhat aesthetic as ^{[citation needed]}'s throughout a page, especially when they bust a page (creating a horizontal bar) are an annoyance of mine. The statement in particular seemed uncontroversial to me at a glance, but I have undo my change and tweaked the ref to reflect the current state of research. re: genetic susceptibility to Type 1. it is associated with certain HLA types. Those having those types are more likely to have a Type 1 immune reaction to, say, a viral infection of the 'right' sort.
