Have you got any idea how I would take a photo of infinite regression? --The preceding comment was signed by User:Sp3000 (talkcontribs) 07:43, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To quote from the article itself: "Infinite regress in optics is the formation of an infinite series of receding images created in two parallel facing mirrors." Mathmo Talk 09:50, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My problem is you can always see the camera's reflection. --The preceding comment was signed by User:Sp3000 (talkcontribs) 10:24, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... I'm sure I've seen an answer to this somewhere. Would a one way mirror work? Or then again there is photoshopping. Oh, or you could use a ray tracing program! You could at least get an image which looks like a photograph even if it is not actually a photograph. Mathmo Talk 11:47, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Try with two wide mirrors (at a mirror store maybe?); you can crop out the part with the camera, and you'll still see a lot of the mirrors. · AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 12:05, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Drat, why didn't I mention that? Then again, that is just similar line of thinking to where I was going with photoshopping. But what you said is a simpler option. Mathmo Talk 13:28, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshots[edit]

Well you really only need one screenshot for the gameplay section, just so you can demonstrate what the game looks like while it is being played to help the reader. Fair use says only one is allowed per article, but this is under discussion, and if one of the other two pics serves some other purpose in the article, I'd say it's okay to put in. My other screenshot was showing what an ingame cut screen looked like, and gave the reader a look into the story mode (kinda what the arena shot does). One example that comes to mind is if you want to put an image in development or reception regarding the game's graphics, gameplay etc. Personally I like this one the best for the gameplay section, based on it's cropping and demonstration of battle, environment, formation use, and civilization uniqueness. However, I've never played the game, so the choice is really yours. It's a little big for web resolution, so if you could make that smaller, that would be good too.--Clyde (talk) 23:00, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I'm still in the process of transferring resources to cite web, but my breaks kinda interfered with that. I'll take care of that as soon as I can.

Hey man I was sticking some fair use rationales in the images, and I couldn't find the sources for them, so I can't make them web resolution. Do you know anything about this that I might not?--Clyde (talk) 00:35, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wait did I miss something? I was looking for this or this. I don't think they're on there.--Clyde (talk) 00:58, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you want (I could also), but you might want to keep it in the 500 X 500 range so it's web resolution (whatever that actually means).--Clyde (talk) 01:16, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added some quick tips, most of which you probably know about. This portal definitely has potential. Keep up the great work! Happy editing, S.D. ¿п? § 00:59, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, thank you very much. :-) Your first tip says "I would suggest randomizing the contents of the portal.", which, frankly, I don't understand. The second is "The introduction needs an image.", is that fine? Third: "More selected content, did you know's, and a things you can do box are needed." Selected content will be updating once monthly, DYKs have to be on the main page first, so it's hard (or am I wrong on that?), and I'll make a "things to do" section soon. Your fourth is "Try to add an image to every box." do you mean literally? (eg. I can't think of images that would go well in the category box). · AndonicO Talk · Sign Here 01:50, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some explanations (sorry if my tips were a bit vague :)):
  1. An example of a portal that randomizes content is the Chemistry portal. Here, the content (articles, pictures, did you know's, etc.) doesn't have to changed. Every time you press "Show new selections," new content shows up.
  2. Yes, that's great. :D
  3. Not literally, but images on content like selected articles, pictures, and biographies and things you can do would be good.
Hope these help! Happy editing, S.D. ¿п? § 02:17, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, DYK's don't have to be on the main page in order to be on the portal — an example is the Religion portal's did you know section. Cheers! S.D. ¿п? § 02:23, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've replied here. Cheers! S.D. ¿п? § 12:46, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problems, just give me a call when you have 10 of each content. Great job so far! S.D. ¿п? § 12:51, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[Reset] I've started randomizing things. The template is {{Random portal component}}. The code is simply: {{Random portal component|max=Number of things you have|header=''Selected _________''|subpage=Selected _________}}. For example, since you have six selected articles for the portal, the code is for randomizing the selected articles is: {{Random portal component|max=6|header=''Selected article''|subpage=Selected article}}. Be sure to update the max=__#__, maximum number, every time you make a new subpage. The subpages need to be like this: Portal:Example/Selected thing/# (the tenth picture would be named Portal:Strategy games/Selected picture/10). Hope this helps! Cheers, S.D. ¿п? § 23:29, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Civilizations at War[edit]

Hi; just took a quick glance, and it looks like a lot of progress is being made. I notice spoiler tags in the campaign section; usually, I'm against those, but the section does not label it as a plot section already, so I guess it's fine. The references are coming along, although you might need a bit more variety and perhaps some scholarly sources, if possible. They also need to be formatting. It's a great start though, and it has a lot of promise. — Deckiller 11:38, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Easter Egg section may be able to be axed, or perhaps added into the development section as a last paragraph. Something like "the developers added an easter egg...". — Deckiller 11:40, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Formatting references means placing it in a manner that does not just provide the external links. For examples, see, say, the Final Fantasy VIII references. Template:Cite web also helps out a lot. I could not find any matches on scholar.google.com, so you'll have to rely on asserting notability through sales and critical response, which is fine. — Deckiller 11:50, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It shouldn't be too hard to find sales figures. That will be the key to assessing notability; has the product reached to enough people to warrent significant mention? I'll take a look later if I have time, but I recommend that you take a look at some video game FAs and find what sources they used for sales figures, and try to see if they have the numbers for this game as well. — Deckiller 12:18, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's a good move. I made some formatting fixes. — Deckiller 12:02, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give it a quick skim and see what I can pick out first. — Deckiller 12:06, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The major things I think you should fix before going to peer review are using the cite web template for the remainder of the references (right now, it's only for the first 4 refs), perhaps breaking up the gameplay section into 2-3 paragraphs, and perhaps a copy-edit. Although the copy-edit can always wait until you get some more people interested in the peer review. — Deckiller 12:08, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey; you might want to add a review chart similar to Final Fantasy VIII. That might cut down the reception section a bit. — Deckiller 23:20, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation case of Muhammad pictures[edit]

Hi, How are you. Please guide that case to quick and good solution. Right now it seem like stop at one place. best wishes, --- ALM 17:07, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I'm not sure if you're the Mediator for this or not, there seems to be some confusion as to who is, since the original Mediator apparently retired in December. Hopefully I'm asking the right person. Shouldn't there be an RFMF tag on the Discussion Page for the Muhammad article, alerting editors that a Mediation is underway? I, and others, having been recently discussing this topic there to develop a consensus, unaware that a separate Mediation page exists. JGHowes 19:16, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks, I've added my two cents' worth about informal mediation tags at Wikipedia talk:Mediation Cabal and also read with interest your comments about the difficulty with resolving Talk:Muhammad/Mediation. I really don't see how anyone, even with the wisdom of Solomon, can resolve to everyone's satisfaction the question of whether Mohammed should be pictorially portrayed in a Wikipedia biographical article about him, given that one side is basing their argument on deeply held religious beliefs while the other side, not sharing those beliefs, feels equally strongly about freedom of expression. But kudos for volunteering to try! Cheers, JGHowes 21:35, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it ready?[edit]

Now that the citations have been formatted, the reception section box put in, and the images fixed, are you going to go for GA with rise and fall? Except for something written about the audio and multiplayer (both have small mention in reception) I think it is ready. What do you think?--Clyde (talk) 21:39, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey saw you put rise and fall on the CVG PR. The list of specialized RTS editors is pretty small, and I think you might be better if you put rise and fall on the main PR for grammer, copyediting and the like. I guess we should wait it out and see if we get a bite first, though.--Clyde (talk) 01:36, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Being thorough is a good thing, but if you put it on the regular PR, I'm pretty sure it shows in the CVG thing too...but whatever.--Clyde (talk) 01:44, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AndonicO, in the suggestion, it is not very clear what voting "yes" means and what voting "no" means. I know for a fact that Proabivouac would have voted "yes", as would have I, but it seems most people are confusing the meaning. Hi Fir! I noticed you corrected a few grammer mistakes on Rise and Fall; thanks! The only thing I wanted to ask you was that you changed the period at the end of the sentence from the inside of a quote, to the outside. Is this correct grammer? I thought the periods went inside of the quotation. Thanks! · AndonicO Talk 01:43, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AO!
Thanks for your note. Although I fixed the apostrophes, the quotation marks were moved automatically by AutoWikiBrowser. As far as I know, either way is correct, but the developers of AWB must have it set to "correct" articles to move quotation marks to before the period. I don't know why; there may be something about this mentioned on WT:AWB or on WP:MOS. Sorry this note wasn't particularly helpful. Firsfron of Ronchester 02:07, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Automated PR[edit]

I use Windows too, though it seems that most problems tend to be browser based (I use IE, though Safari/Firefox users a couple of times have reported that nothing happens). If the link appeared and nothing happened after it was clicked, it might have been a CSS thing, which I’m horrible at, but which is fixable, or another error of some sort; if the link never appears then the problem will probably be more complex.

In the meantime, this, while not as convenient, may work as a substitute. AZ t 00:17, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey bud; please email me too. I would love to co-nom you and here is why. (1. You have been one of the most kind users to me on Wikipedia; you were my first wikifriend and helped me out :). You are never in a bad mood, I have asked you random questions like how do you think my photography is and instead of giving me a one word response like "good" you give me a whole paragraph and useful tips/links (thanks for that ;). (2. You will benefit from the tools, you are a perfect mix with vandal fighting and article writing. You never focus on one part to the extreme (I kindof do lol), which I highly respect. Also you are not afraid to ask questions. Admins who aren't afraid to ask questions...are a heck of a lot better off then the ones who don't. Trust me :). So let me know okay? p.s: I have been really thinking about upgrading cameras; yes I have still be using the same one from my first hideous photo of the moon :P. I have had my eyes on the Digital Rebel XT. Yea yea I know a Canon SLR would be a big jump from my point and shoot Polaroid but I am really wanting to get advanced and adventure more with photography. I have been doing some research and I think this is a good idea but I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks. ~ Arjun 03:17, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Copyeditor's Barnstar[edit]

I noticed you voiced an opinion in the first discussion on a Copyeditor's Barnstar/Award which was archived without decision. If you haven't already, would you please check in with the current discussion? The !votes/opinions from the first discussion, althought noted at the top, are not being counted in the current tally. It would be great if you would also weigh in on your preference of graphic design from among the choices (currently eight different images, the last being added at around 15:23, Thursday, 1 March 2007). If you !vote, please update the tally near the top of the discussion. Thanks. --PigmanTalk to me 21:49, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the input. Being a copyeditor of longstanding, I feel it's a skill which often doesn't get the attention it deserves. And being an editor of longstanding, I understand that lack of respect for copyediting as well. Pushing around commas and periods, correcting spelling and phrasing... these are not glamorous tasks. Yet the proper placement and usage of them is essential to clear communication, a basic function of this project. I guess it should be obvious I think the award is a good idea and want to see it promoted in some form. Again, thanks for voicing an opinion in the matter. --PigmanTalk to me 22:54, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm not that popular, but at least everything is going AOkay here (no pun intended ;-)). --May the Edit be with you, always. (T-borg) (drop me a line) 11:05, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I might, but when I have the time. Right now I have some work at home (good pun though ;)). --May the Edit be with you, always. (T-borg) (drop me a line) 11:15, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

Hey AndonicO, this may seem like a silly question to ask , but is your username pronounced and-on-ick-oh (sorry, I don't know the real dictonary symbols)? RyGuy 15:59, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
