Well, I work in updates to the thousand per day, but not UTC day but considering when I go to sleep (1-2 UTC) and yesterday I made around 3k edits, today around 2,5k. How did you checked the exact number per day? Snowolf How can I help? 00:32, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Andonico, regarding the Ray Williams (businessman) article, a Google News search reveals Ray Williams as a corporate criminal who just got out of jail. A few days ago, someone started re-editing the article (using various user names) to cast a positive light on the article. I put a notice on the Australian Wikipedians Noticeboard, and some other editors, including user:Dihydrogen Monoxide and user:WWGB have responded by helping out to keep a watch on the article. It's really a case of a new single-purpose editor, user:Mooseskin305, and also appearing as an IP address, adding outlandish positive spin to an article about a criminal.Lester 02:41, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Cannon[edit]

I copied from History of cannon. I mentioned that in the preceding summary, as when I was typing the first one, it somehow cut out, as shown by the dangling comma. I could try to rewrite it, if that's better. JustinContribsUser page 16:04, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Q[edit]

You offered help, therefore I ask :-)

I did my first block from a BOT report to AIV. The block was successful and I applied the appropriate block notice to the user's talk page. I see that the row disappeared from AIV but I do not see it in AIV's history page. I thought HBC AIV helperbot3 does the job, or should I do something else I'm missing? -- Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 19:43, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't get it. I did four vandal blocks so far. Of the four, only one shows in AIV's history. Baffled. Is there a proper page where I should ask? -- Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 22:36, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here's one...] can't find the others though. :/ Maybe after blocking, go back to AIV, hit history, go to the revision the user was reported, then skip forward until you find when/by whom they were removed? · AndonicO Hail! 22:40, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's exactly my point. That is the only one that shows. All were done the same way. I checked right after to make sure I'm doing it right. The blocklog for the users shows it fine as it should (and all done by me, not somebody else at the same time). AIV's history only shows one. Go figure. -- Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 22:48, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Something else: User:205.155.32.21 was never reported on AIV. · AndonicO Hail! 23:01, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is one of the four I mentioned. -- Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 23:31, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The bit I don't understand is that I got that user from AIV. That's where I found the report to begin with. Curioser and curioser. I'll eventually figure it out as I do more. I'll take it slow. -- Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 23:37, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. But I'm sorry that I cannot know what the problem is... My edit only contains example codes of some programs and it was a Talk page only. Would you please explain what I should correct fot it? -- LeeSI (talk) 03:09, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reverts to Daniel Boone[edit]

Please forgive me my ignorance; I'm still learning. You reverted some edits to the Daniel Boone article and I was wondering why. I'm not questioning your edits, I'm just trying to learn! Collaboration?[edit]

Hello AndonicO. I noticed that you sometimes edit around scifi articles, and was wondering if you wanted to collaborate on the Ender's Game articles. They're in pretty bad shape, and I don't want to go it alone. Thanks! Keilana|Parlez ici 03:41, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ADHD edit[edit]

I replaced the blog item about the newly published paper with a newly created Wikipedia article that had much material from the newly published paper as well as 2 links to the blog item. From the Wikipedia page one can find all the sources, and from the blog item one can't find the Wikipedia article. So I thought the Wikipedia page was the better reference. This is not a negative judgment on the blog post, which is cited twice in the Wikipedia article. Channel4 (talk) 03:33, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

RfA thanks[edit]

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which was unsuccessful with 19 support, 18 oppose, and 5 neutral. I have signed up for admin coaching and will retry later on in a couple more months.

Thanks for your moral support on the RfA. You and Daniel should have gotten a pretty good laugh when someone nominated me for admin the day after our conversation. I was really taken back by the nomination and I pretty much knew I needed more than 4 months of service on Wikipedia before I could become an admin. I've signed up for admin coaching in hopes I can make fewer mistakes between now and my next RfA. I felt like I've been on Wikipedia Steroids since October 2007 when I came back and it's been great so far.

(Thinking on a tangent) Please see if you can help out with getting WP:ROBO set up with me. I've been pretty much looking at what WP:FLA and WP:UNI has been doing, but there's just some things so much one editor can do before the editor makes a fatal mistake somewhere... Anyways, thanks again for your support.

Another side note, please comment here on where and when you would like your next Florida meetup. I'm thinking some time in March around Spring Break maybe?

Problem with warning templates[edit]

When we revert vandalism by someone who already received a level 4 warning, any other warnings make it seem like, "Oh, we didn't really mean it when we said that was your last warning," like the parent who says, "This is the last time I'm going to tell you" five times before taking action. What about something like this:[1]. I'd like some feedback on this as a possible template for non-admins to use when they revert past a level 4 warning. Thanks. Doczilla (talk) 10:15, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback. That makes sense, although I also think that getting any notices after the level 4 warning will make them cocky. A number of them will make comments about how those level 4 warnings didn't appear to matter. Maybe something like this could be tested on a small scale to see what difference it made, if any. Doczilla (talk) 10:22, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yeah, I just remembered my other big reason for suggesting this: So any admin responding to the AIV could see at a glance that the level 4 warning was for a violation earlier than the last one. Doczilla (talk) 10:26, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
VP has the warnings built in too, which is part of what made me think about what happens after they've been reported. Admins can't always get to them right away while other vandalism keeps happening. Doczilla (talk) 10:27, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And thanks for mentioning HUG. It looks interesting. VP has a few quirks that bother me, so I'll definitely check HUG out. Doczilla (talk) 10:29, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Re:We'd still have to check through the user's contributions to make sure the that the warnings were valid, and that the user vandalized after the last warning. Very true. However, I've seen admins who don't check quite carefully enough. More than once I've seen admins get thrown off when vandals removed warnings from their pages. This is a separate issue, of course, but it does make me conscious of the fact that some admins need it laid out more clearly for them. Doczilla (talk) 10:31, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your feedback. I really appreciated our exchange of thoughts on this last night/this morning. A majority of the feedback I got favored it but not a clear consensus, so at the suggestion of User:Master of Puppets, I've opened the discussion up at WT:AIV#Past-last_warning. Doczilla (talk) 03:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Around the World.../Mad scientist[edit]

I don't want to cause an edit war, but the character is clearly portrayed as the "mad scientist archetype" (i'm not saying he's insane). Most "mad scientists" are simply eccentric, especially in family films such as this (take the father from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, for example - he's a "mad scientist" but not insane). It's an archetype: I am a screenwriting student and understand that vast generalisations are made when stereotyping characters. I'm not saying the Fogg in the film is actually mad, but that he has a lot of stereotypes of the "mad scientist archetype", which is what the "mad scientist" wikipage is actually talking about. It makes perfect sense to link it, in my opinion...maybe if not a "mad scientist", could you agree a link to the "Absent-minded_professor" page? Really Fogg is a mix of the two, but more centred around the mad professor, but I'd agree to the "absent-minded_professor" link if you find the "mad scientist" one offensive (offense should not be taken into consideration on wikipedia anyway - simply the facts and the facts show Fogg shared a lot in common with the "mad scientist" archetype). 82.10.123.204 (talk) 10:52, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Huggle[edit]

We need to contact gurch and DerHexer. DerHexer's JS tool only adds a level to the previous warning. So with huggle It will subst: uw-Huggle 1-4 which results in ugly red text. I am telling you this because you happened to revert twice before me in which cases the same thing happened twice. See Diff Thedjatclubrock :) (T/C) 03:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Huggle does not add warnings with templates, but has to pretend it does in comments after the warnings in order that certain tools parse them correctly. Thus I had to create placeholder templates with messages explaining not to use them. Due to DerHexer's failure to fix it, I've temporarily changed them to redirects. However, these are not templates, please do not use them. And how about actually contacting me rather than just writing "We need to contact gurch" and expecting me to have some sixth sense that instantly tells me my name is being mentioned? – Gurch 11:38, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AndonicO. Just wondering what can be done about the onslaught of vandalism on the Ray Williams (businessman) article and talk page. It seems to be a stream of recently started accounts, including user:Dewie Shannon (you've been talking to him 2 posts above this one) and user:Mooseskin305 who just vandalized the talk page. When a post by 'Mooseskin305' was re-signed, it came up as user:Dewie Shannon, so I assume they are one and the same editor. Thanks, Lester 03:40, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heya AO. I hope I didn't stand on any toes with this edit. If you have any questions or would like a more detailed rationale, feel free to ask me. I read the article and while the rest is OK, that one stood out as being overly-negative, overly-accusatory and implied wrongdoing on Williams' part (despite the findings of Wood in the Royal Commision). Supporting Terrorism[edit]

Hi, regarding your edit on Khalistan, you may or may not be aware that it is a criminal offense to either support directly or otherwise terrorist activities via the net?

The Khalistan movement and terrorists in general have been using the internet more recently since the 'War on Terror' You notice there are no religious be-headings of westerners or other propaganda allowed on Wiki but by removing the references of illegal activities cited by both US and EU Governments, and allowing unfiltered and disinformative propaganda, you are in fact supporting terrorist agenda(s).

Please explain[edit]
