hey small. World I looked at Quddous earlier and thought its a good start and i was just checking out egyptian films and to see how your going!! Nice. How is life in Egypt? keep those egyptian cinema articles coming in and help out in adding them to the List of Egyptian films if you can. I've been busy working on Abbas Kiarostami from Iran Ernst Stavro Blofeld 20:56, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

I know if I remember rightly you are of syrian descent living in Canada right? I was speaking metaphorically on wikipedia! I'm glad you noticed Kiarostami developments. Keep up the good work also mi amigo. Saludos Ernst Stavro Blofeld 21:15, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Recording of the Faten Hamama article

Anas, i'm thinking about making a voice recording of the Faten Hamama article. I'm not a native English speaker, but i think i can immitate British English articulation pretty well. How about i give it a try and record just the first paragraph, and you listen to it and tell me whether i should go ahead with it, or rather divert my energies to endeavors less likely to cause great embarrassment to myself and Wikipedia? Itayb 22:59, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Replied in user's talk page. [1]
Thanks for letting me know you are planning a substantial modification to this article. I saw that it achieved the status of a "Good Article", so i figured it was more or less stable, but i don't want to make a recording that will be outdated soon after its creation. Hey, sorry about adding the no source tag, I didn't see the link to flickr. Now that I've seen it though, I see the license it's under is cc-by-nd-nc meaning no derivatives are allowed and no commercial use is allowed, which isn't a valid license for Wikipedia. Music Video links

Anas, I appreciate your efforts to prevent link spam, however the links to Music Artist pages on Ya Libnan are intended to fill a clear void in the related Wikis. The links on Nancy Ajram's page and Haifa Wehbe's page to their music video pages on Ya Libnan are only adding value to the readers who want to explore the artist further.

Best regards, Ali —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yalibnan (talkcontribs)

One more thing... I was reviewing the IP address (62.139.40.130) talk page that you linked to my user page. Your comments about me leaving you "personal uncivil messages" really confused me. For starters, this is the first message I have sent you. Perhaps my edits were confused with someone else's who left you a nasty message. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yalibnan (talkcontribs)
Hi there Ali, how's it going? I assumed you were the one using that IP address, which had changed the comment below the external links section to an uncivil message. My apologies if I have mistaken you for being the anonymous user; his edits and constant linking to your website had left me in doubt. Concerning linking to your website, I'm afraid I'm still going to have to disagree with you. The policy in Wikipedia is very clear (see WP:EL), it is forbidden to link to websites which violate any sort of copyright. That is clearly mentioned in the beginning of the external links guideline. Also see this, which I believe your website violates. My talk page is open if you want to discuss anything. :) Also, please sign your messages either by using the signature button or leaving four tildes (~~~~). Happy editing. - Anas Talk? 15:48, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
Anas, I need you to be more specific about what copyright you believe is being violated or how the site does not meet Wikipedia's requirements. Yalibnan Talk?
Well, for starters, the videos (from YouTube) clearly violate copyrights, which makes linking the articles to your website forbidden by Wikipedia's copyright policy. This is clearly stated in WP:EL. Cheers, - Anas Talk? 18:55, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
If YouTube is unacceptable by Wikipedia's standards, why does the site have its own Wiki, with links to You Tube? Yalibnan Talk?
Huh? Having an informative article on YouTube is completely different from linking to a site with videos from YouTube which violate copyrights. For example, pornographic images are not allowed in Wikipedia, but that definitely doesn't mean it cant have an article on pornography. - Anas Talk? 19:39, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Anas Salloum/Archive 4

Bey or Bek

Hi Anas Thank you for your message, but i want to ask you why did you change the name of the writer of the Syrian anthem to Khalil Mardam Bey instead of Bek?? The name in Arabic is خليل مردم بك right? salam Wadi3 09:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

According to the National Anthems of the World Organization, his name is transliterated Khalil Mardam Bey. Furthermore, the title Beik or Bek (بك) is Bey in English. Remember that this is still a title, not part of his original name. It is similar to saying Prince Walid, not Amir Walid. Cheers, - Anas Talk? 11:49, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Style

Due to shortage in my time; most if not all the Egyptian Biography pages that I started are still stubs , so they are open for any addition and I keep on changing them.

Please feel free to change of any page that I started, if this is not convenient to you, please let me know all the pages that need editing and I will try to change them to meet the standards. --Ghaly 19:20, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

If you don't have much time to work on articles, you can start one in a subpage of your user page and publish it once it's done. Remember it's quality not quantity that matters. Trust me, once you work on a few articles properly, your proper article writing will drastically improve. I remember when I first edited here, it took me an hour to start this article, but check the article out now. It was voted for deletion before because it contained original research, was biased, and needed clean-up. I can start a proper stub in five minutes now. At least, you can do the basic stuff, i.e. making the subject of the article bold and placed in the lead and using complete sentences (instead of saying "Mohamed. Soccer player. In Ahly", you can say "Mohamed is a soccer player who currently plays for Al-Ahly."), etc. Your articles are making it hard for everyone; some may confuse them for non-notable content and it is getting hard to track your articles and reformat them. All the best. - Anas Talk? 13:13, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Would you please point out to the articles that you would like to be reformatted, or is it just my style in general, for those matters please see King-Kopetzky syndrome‎ and Nagui Asaad to give you an example of articles that I started and made significant contribution to. You will notice the number of references used and the way the information was put together. I would be grateful if your criticism be directed to specific examples as this will help and in general is more constructive, It would be helpful to know more about your point of view.
The other thing is some of my articles had a lot of contribution form other users mainly User:orthopraxia and User:lanternix who added a lot to many of my articles and if I kept my pages away from mainspace then the important contributions from other users are going to be missed. --Ghaly 13:40, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Well, even the articles you pointed out to are not properly formatted. For example, in the Nagui Asaad article, you should not say "Full name;", among other mistakes. You can rewrite the lead as:
Youssef Nagui Asaad (Arabic: ناجي أسعد) (born September 12 1945) is a former Egyptian athlete who was mainly active in the 1970s and early 1980s in shot put and discus throw.
Now notice how the quality of the prose differs. This is properly formatted and wikified. Your articles need cleanup (I noticed you removed the cleanup tag in the article) and the references need proper formatting and, not to complicate stuff, you'll have to user the cite web template. Seems a bit complicated, eh? It is, but once you get used to it, it wouldn't be. Now, when I said start them in your user page (since you are usually short of time), I meant only start them there, work on them until they are at least of acceptable quality (properly formatted, categorized, wikified, etc.), and then publish it in the main space. This is what I do; see User:Anas Salloum/Drafts/Mahmoud el-Meliguy for an example. I'm sure that any article needs some time for it to be edited by other users, right? Leave a message if you have any further questions. - Anas Talk? 14:03, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I tried to use your style to start Mary Queeny I hope it will win your approval as I tried as much as I can to make it similar in style to Assia Dagher , which you started.--Ghaly 14:35, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
To tell you the truth, Assia Dagher is, albeit of acceptable quality, one of my worst articles. I suggest using the much better Yehia Chahine article as a model. Also, a quick heads up, you used the same reference twice; you can use a single reference more than once (check Chahine's article). Good luck editing! :) - Anas Talk? 14:44, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

DYK suggestion

Hi Ghaly, I noticed the good work on the Nagui Asaad article. Why don't you give it a shot and nominate it in Template talk:Did you know? There are many hooks in the article, like what is mentioned in the achievements section. Just make sure the article is long enough and recently expanded. Have a good day. - Anas Talk? 18:06, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

I have put it as you recommended, thanks .--Ghaly 20:04, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of unassessed articles tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 20:12, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for responding and helping out! Hopefully we can get the amount of unassessed articles below 100,000 by the end of March. Jreferee started up an assessment drive page [here] if you want to sign up for a section or area. Again, thanks! --Ozgod 18:23, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, need your help!

I'm a new user to wikipedia. I added a few pictures to (Tartous) article. The pictures were taken from various flikr accounts belonging to different users. Now, I'm not familiar with copy right issues or licensing. So I would really appreciate if you can visit Tartous wikipedia page and give some insight. If the pictures are not licensed they will be automatically deleted in 7 days. Thanks. Ahmad (Feb. 27, 2007)

These are tagged and attributed correctly. Please stop tagging them for speedy deletion, as it is not correct to do so. If you believe they ought not to be here, please take them to IFD. Proto  15:44, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Proto. I tagged the images again because I thought that the reason I provided was incorrect. I apologize if I might have seemed to revert your edits. I checked the sources and in no place was it mentioned that the copyright holder allows others to freely redistribute, modify, and use commercially his/her images. The user who uploaded these images argues that in Flickr, the images are public; I might be wrong, but I think that that means they are just that, public, i.e. open and accessible for everyone to view. Do you think I should nominate them for deletion? Thanks. --Anas Talk? 17:40, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
The second image listed has no source information. The first and third images are clearly copyrighted. Flickr images are most certainly not public unless specifically indicated. In this two cases, the All Rights Reserved copyright tags appear right next to the image in question. There is no doubt. Rklawton 14:06, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Unbelievably a nasty user has put all of the cinema templates up for deletion. I beelive they serve a great purpose for establishing a better understanding and connection between articles.
