Hi Angela! Have a good day!Jennakor (talk) 15:45, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings from Dr. V[edit]

Hi, User:Amrogers! To complete this week's assignment, you have written on people's talk pages - good job! I love the idea of an article focusing on media by youth. Please scour Wikipedia to see what is already out there, and also work with the reference librarian to see what materials exist - there have to be credible sources in order to proceed. I have my fingers crossed for you, it's a great topic.

Please complete an edit of an article using a fact from the reading. Cheers! Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 05:14, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Finding sources[edit]

How is your planning coming? What have you found for sources on Youth and media? I think Pew research might be helpful in addition to peer reviewed journal articles. Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 10:49, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal feedback[edit]

Hi, Amrogers- You have chosen an important topic that has great potential. I couldn't tell from your proposal if you were aware of the Youth-led media article that is already there. How would you work with this article? All of the topics you suggest would be wonderful additions. I recommend you think about how to expand the lead paragraph, the scholarship on the impacts of youth media, and, of course, strong examples. As we've mentioned, a global perspective includes both examples from outside of the the U.S. and also a global framing of the topic.

Is Learning from each other a book you're working with? Can you describe how you might include the keywords you describe in your article revisions? Can you post a planned outline for your work? Be sure to stay close to the topic. For example, you would need to write about youth citizen journalism for this specific article.

Consider also the example of Youth Radio. Cheers, Prof.Vandegrift (talk) 03:18, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback on sources[edit]

Hi, Amrogers -

This is a great start. Some specific feedback: Is Beijing Youth News youth led media, or state media written for youth? Please check the same thing for sources 4 & 5 - are they about youth media, or about relationships between youth consumers and media? As you and I talked about focus, I think one criteria can be: is this article/webpage/report talking about media produced by youth? There is so much to do with this article that any contribution you make will be foundational.

You did a great job on this assignment! You're ready to draft your article. As you write, you will probably look for additional sources (some of which I mention here). You can create a checklist of items to find information about, following your proposal. For example: Independent youth media outlets, Media activism, Youth citizenship (what do you mean by this?), "amateur" journalists, social media, social movements, and critiques of youth-led media (the way WP articles dea with "pros and cons").

The next steps are:

  • Completing an outline of your article, moving between the proposal and the sources you have to create the final shape
  • You will need additional sources to accomplish all you have planned to do
  • Locating doi numbers for all sources
  • Creating a reference page and correct formatting of references in your sandbox
  • Writing your first draft. I would love for you to get to as close to 2000 words as possible in your first draft, as you are already well on your way.
