Introduction for Class[edit]

HI Amontei2! I'm Jen. We are partners for the Molecular Biology project. I've never worked on Wikipedia before. It seems really interesting. Talk to you soon! Magladem96 (talk) 18:53, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

HI Ana! So I'm not sure where to reply to your messages. Here? After your reply? I hope you'll bear with me while I figure this out! It's snowing here. We're supposed to get a foot, so I plan on staying home and working on Wikipedia tomorrow.  :) Magladem96 (talk) 02:26, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jen! I guess so too. Did you see my post on your page too? Let's just use this here then to make sure we don't miss each other. On man! And I am here in Florida complaining we will have a cold night (upper 40's). Stay warm and we will be in touch. I might be out tomorrow, but I will be online studying and working on Wikipedia Saturday all morning and early afternoon. We will keep in touch, I will keep checking here for your messages. Talk to you soon Amontei2 (talk) 00:13, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I've looked a little at the article topics. Base flipping definitely sounds interesting. The talk page doesn't have anyone claiming it yet. Any article not on the class list needs to be approved by Dr. Ogg and the online ambassador. We can email them and see if we can get approval. From the class article list, gene cluster, nondisjunction, or ap-1 binding site might be interesting also. What are your top 3? Magladem96 (talk) 16:53, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Where do you see the "class article list" I only see the stubs added by PaleoBioJackie.Amontei2 (talk) 16:59, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Found it never mind. Let me take a look at it and send you my top three. I like the nondisjunction topic as well!Amontei2 (talk) 17:01, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
AP-1 binding site is very small, that gives us the opportunity to add more, don't you think? Should we do a little research the next day or two to look for possible info in a couple topics and see which one we would like to pursue? Amontei2 (talk) 17:08, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was looking at the stuff we have to do for the Unit 5 Wiki, and what you suggest is exactly what she wants us to do to.  :) We each have to pick 2 of the articles and do a short evaluation and start a bibliography. I'll take AP-1 Binding Site and Nondisjunction. I'll do some research and post it on our group page. Which other articles do you like? Magladem96 (talk) 20:09, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great! So I will do base flipping and spermatocyte. This time we will have a short time to do it since this research is only one week long so I will get on it ASAP and post it on our group page as well. Have a great week Amontei2 (talk) 16:14, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article Assessments[edit]

Hi Ana! I added one assessment to our group page. Does it look ok to you? I wasn't sure how we should do the bibliography, as cited references like on our sandbox page or just as text with the links added in. I just added them as text with the URL links. I didn't know if the citation list would get confusing since it's on 4 different topics. Let me know what you think and if I should use the citations instead. I'll add my other assessment in the next day or two. Thanks! Jen Magladem96 (talk) 02:40, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jen! It looks really good! I will load my two assessments tomorrow, as I am taking the whole day off to do that along with my other class's work.I will send you a message when I load mine so you can send me some suggestions, you are definitely getting the hang of Wikipedia better than me and I could use some help!LOL Amontei2 (talk) 00:20, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Good Morning Jen! I have just added my two assessments. Please let me know what you think, I posted following your format. Since this is not due until Tuesday we can take this time to revise it and get it ready for the due date. What do you think? Amontei2 (talk) 17:21, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I have emailed Dr. Ogg to make sure it was okay to assess base flipping. She gave us the permission to do so, therefore, I went ahead and posted the assessment as you can see.Amontei2 (talk) 18:44, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your assessments look good also! Thanks for checking with Dr. Ogg about the base flipping article. Yes, we can work on revising them for Tuesday. Do you have any comments to start off with? Also, what other class are you taking? I'm juggling working and one class - I can't imagine working and taking 2 classes! Jen Magladem96 (talk) 20:40, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I added the website and ISBN to your references on base-flipping. I definitely like using the citation better than the bibliography list. I had used our text for my sandbox paragraph using the citation option. So I had all the info and I just copied and pasted.  :) Magladem96 (talk) 12:34, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jen! Thank you... I will take a look at them soon, I just want to finish the individual assignment first and I will review them carefully and send any suggestions if needed. I am one of the crazy ones juggling work, two classes and I am also in the transition between jobs right now. So, don't hesitate to send me a little "get it done" message if needed.lol I usually try to get things done ahead of time to avoid any last minute issues. Talk to you soon Amontei2 (talk) 15:13, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Jen! I have just reviewed our assessments and I think it looks good. I went ahead and accessed your article and checked the importance and links and you listed everything accurately :). Let me know if you find anything missing with mine. Amontei2 (talk) 20:53, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ana! I think everything looks good also! All your links are good. The only change I made was that I capitalized 'A' (for Vitamin A) in the title for Spermotocyte Bib #2. Other than that, I think we are good! Now we have to decide which one we want to work on! Magladem96 (talk) 21:25, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I wanted to let you know that I just posted to our group talk page. I think that's where we're supposed to discuss which article we'd like to choose. Let me know what you think. Magladem96 (talk) 01:07, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Started Draft:DNA base flipping[edit]

HI Ana! I started putting together the article on the Draft page. I'll continue working on it some tomorrow. I thought I'd just start the paragraphs with broad strokes for Unit 8 assignment and then go back and fill in additional details later in the following weeks. For the biological processes - let's divvy those up - you take 2 and I'll take 2 so that we're not duplicating work. Is that ok? Let me know what you think! Jen Magladem96 (talk) 20:51, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good Jen! I will be working on it tomorrow. Did you see Dr. Ogg's message in regards to the turn it in page? Apparently we have to use that to submit our first draft, I will send her an email and see how we go about the references since we use the Wikipedia "codes" to list the references and I don't think the same algorithm works. Anyways, just something I thought, does it make sense? Also, the draft page looks good...Great start! Amontei2 (talk) 20:58, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah - I forgot about that. I wonder if we can just cut and paste it into a word doc. I already set up my account. I'll try that tomorrow and let you know how it goes.  :) Magladem96 (talk) 21:23, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay! I have set up my account as well :) I will be editing the draft page today, my goal is to have most of it done today so I have the whole week to review and finish the individual assignment with no pressure. Amontei2 (talk) 12:52, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I copied our preliminary draft to a word document and submitted it on Turnitin to see how it works. It's still processing the file. I'll let you know what I see when the originally report is back. I'll be working on the article this morning. Sounds like we are on the same page as to getting most of it done soon and then fine-tuning it over the rest of the semester. I won't be able to work on it this afternoon though. Do you want to divvy up the remaining topics so that you don't feel like you're finishing up everything today? Which 2 biological process do you want and which 2 experimental approaches? I was thinking about doing DNA mod and repair and replication, trans, recombo. But I'm open to whatever. You pick the 2 experimental approaches you want and I'll do the other 2.  :) Magladem96 (talk) 13:18, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The turnitin report finished. I think just copying and pasting the wikipage into a word document works. I'll email you the word document I used. The only sentence it flagged was "by X-ray crystallography for the C5-cytosine DNA methyltransferase from Haemophilus Haemolyticus". I think that part is ok, though. Magladem96 (talk) 13:23, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good! Yes, we are definitely on the same page... I will take the rest then :) So I will put our names by the title so won't get mixed up as I tend to forget things!lol Yeah, that part there was not much I could do as it is exactly what they did...I see if I can modify it somehow.Amontei2 (talk) 14:06, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just placed our names on each section, for the experimental approaches I just picked two and placed your name on two, but fell free to change it if you like it. I have no preference!Amontei2 (talk) 14:10, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jen! I have sent my part to turnitin and it looks okay, the parts that matched are related to the way the technique was performed and I am not sure how to summarize it better. I sent Dr. Ogg to ask her suggestion. For example one part that matched was "using hanging-drop vapor diffusion at 16°C by mixing the solution containing the complex” and “where the exposure times for 0.1° rotation were 5 or 10 seconds”. So I will see what she says but as far as I can see there is not much I can do as this simply describes the technique. Let me know if you have any suggestions or if you think I should remove something. Amontei2 (talk) 21:09, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article progress[edit]

Hi Jen! I just saw what you posted and it looks really good :) I will work on my last topic the latest this weekend. But I think we have made great progress, don't you think? Have a great spring break! Amontei2 (talk) 00:28, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Yeah, I think it's looking good! I'm happy we have this much done so far! Great team work! Hope you enjoy your spring break also! Magladem96 (talk) 00:38, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article suggestions[edit]

Good Morning Jen! I have some suggestions for our article in different sections. I will put those together in the next day or two and send you via email. I will not change the page prior to getting your approval to make sure we won't lose anything, if that's okay. I still need to work on my last biological process, which was the one that I had a little issue locating the sources but I am sure with a fresh mind I will be able to write something soon (I was looking for sources after spending 3-4 hours writing the other parts that by that time my brain was fried!LOL). Anyways, I will send you something soon and we go from there. Have a great day. Amontei2 (talk) 11:57, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Thanks Ana! I just added a progress report to our group page per the Unit 8 instructions. I think we are good for unit 8. There's some things I'd like to fix/update also, but I think we can do that for the 2nd - 4th revisions of the article. Let me know if you need help with the last biological section. I'm not sure that we have to have it done for unit 8 - we did a lot already - starting from scratch!  :) Magladem96 (talk) 00:50, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me Jen! I went ahead and resubmitted the whole draft we have so far to Turnitin to make sure can fix anything that is needed prior to the due date. I just saw the report, THANK YOU! Yes, we sure got a lot done, so I will relax a bit and get back to that last biological process this weekend :)Amontei2 (talk) 01:16, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jen! I am working on wikipedia today. Should I load our article on the Base flipping page for others to find? Because now we have under drafts and I wasn't sure if we should keep it there or not? What do you think?Amontei2 (talk) 17:10, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
