Move/merge of star trail article[edit]

Greetings. Today I merged and moved Star trail photography to Star trail (photography), an article that I had percolating in my user space for a long time. The new article has a bunch of good references and incorporates the work you did on the original. Just letting you know. I don't want to be offended that I made the merger. December 2012[edit]

Hello Alborzagros, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page . Thank you. Read Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing, article is a close paraphrase of the source. Better to restart from scratch, sorry about that. Secret account 08:19, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox photo consensus discussion[edit]

Hi. Can you offer your opinion on which photo is more appropriate for the Infobox in the Scott Allie article in this discussion? You don't need to know anything about Allie; I'm contacting you because you've worked on matters pertaining to photography. I tried contacting lots of editors who work on comics-related articles, but every time I do so, we wind up with the sentiments split down the middle, and no clear consensus. I'm thinking perhaps that people who work on matters dealing with photography might be able to offer viewpoints that yield a consensus. Thank you. Nightscream (talk) 15:38, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Question[edit]

Hi Alborzagros,

I am not sure what you are asking about a positive verb, can you rephrase your question?

This may work if I understand you correctly: The study indicated that the greater the boredom in year seven, predicted significantly less satisfaction at year 16. In addition, the greater the satisfaction in year seven did not significantly predict less boredom in year 16.

Tyros1972 Talk 12:56, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alborzagros,

The sentence structure is not using a "double negative" in this tense. As "did not" is referring to the previous statement. Whereas "less" is referring to the last.

  • In simple English: The study showed that the more boredom in year seven, was significantly less then predicted at year 16. Additionally, the more satisfaction shown in year seven did not show less boredom then in year 16. Tyros1972 Talk 13:48, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ships sunk as targets[edit]

Re "Ships sunk as targets" I would imagine that they are old ships towed and sunk for targer practice, although I do not know which ship(s) that you are referring to. Hugo999 (talk) 12:56, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Quite a few ships seem to have been sunk as targets (398), see Category:Ships sunk as targets ! While a special towed target ship could be used for gunnery practice and would not be notable individually (only as a class?), one instance of where a real naval ship was required was the 1921 sinking of battleships to test the vulnerability of battleships to aerial attack, see Billy Mitchell. The US Navy conditions made the tests inconclusive, but WWII showed they were vulnerable! Hugo999 (talk) 21:19, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Al,

Just to let you know that the Featured Picture File:20101229 Naqsh e Rostam Shiraz Iran more Panoramic.jpg is due to make an appearance as Picture of the Day on April 6, 2014. If you get a chance, you can check and improve the caption at Template:POTD/2014-04-06. Thank you for all of your contributions! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:11, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your request is puzzling. That is the name of the article. I don't see how it can be paraphrased. Donner60 (talk) 05:02, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I made this reply on my talk page: Let me start by saying that I had never heard of this before, never heard the song or seen the video or read the article, and don't know the lyrics. I now have read through the article but it certainly does not make it clear what this is about - except that it has to do with going out dancing. I can only guess as you did but I would add one more guess to your possibilities: something about finding a dance partner. I suppose it is not meant to be that tame. Sorry, that is about the best I can do.

Also sorry for the duplication. I am usually uncomfortable with the protocol of posting on alternate pages so I often do both unless I and the other person agree to put all entries on the same page. Donner60 (talk) 05:18, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, there. I have looked at the footnotes attached to what you say about the Sykes-Picot line and removing all modern borders, but I'm afraid I couldn't see anything that backs up your new wording. Wikipedia is very strict about citing sources for new information as you know, but have I missed something perhaps? I didn't want to revert you before asking, and it would be good if you could find another source to back up your addition. If you wish to contact me, please leave a message on my Talk page, or here and I will check in later. --P123ct1 (talk) 17:18, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Someone has now rewritten this and added another footnote. --P123ct1 (talk) 07:49, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
