Kaifeng-Jew?[edit]

Albert, I noticed that you are just as interested in the Kaifeng Jews as I am. Is it because you are a descendent of the Kaifeng Jews yourself? I originally became interested in these people while conducting research on the various ethnic groups of China. I am currently writing a book of Jataka dealing with avatars of the Maitreya Buddha. Each of the three tales serves as an example, to one of three people (father, son, & daughter), of how Maitreya overcomes one of the "Three Fires" or "Three Poisons" of Buddhism (Greed, Hatred, and Ignorance). The first tale is about Maitreya's avatar as a young German-Jew who survives the Crusaders' attack on Jerusalem in 1099 and later joins General Yue Fei's army in 1130 to drive out the Jin. The entire tale deals with him overcoming his hatred for the Crusaders, who attacked Jerusalem and beheaded his father, and for the Jin, who attacked Kaifeng and killed some of his people. There is ALOT more involved than this but that is the basic plot.(!Mi luchador nombre es amoladora de la carne y traigo el dolor! 02:12, 13 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Kaifeng, Jerusalem[edit]

If I had $1,000,000 I would give every cent to your friend so he could make the best possible documentary. Unfortunately, I haven't the finances right now to support the post-production. I hope in the near future I will be able to scrounge up $200 or $300 to help him out. It would only be a small donation, but that would put your friend that much closer to finishing his film. Would those who donated be made aware of when the film was going to be released?(!Mi luchador nombre es amoladora de la carne y traigo el dolor! 14:17, 9 October 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I definitely think Dr Urbach would inform those who were interested in his project that he was going to be releasing his film. I think he would be most enthusiastic for whatever financial assistance you may give him. A little often goes a long way!

Best wishes,

Albert

Please don't delete comments from your talk page. I'm sure you had the best intentions, but its against Wikipedia regulations to do so.(Ghostexorcist 22:35, 4 December 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Sure. No problem. I wasn't aware of that rule.

Yue Fei[edit]

I'm not sure if you noticed it or not, but Tiberius Weisz's book mentions how "Israelites" (Chinese Jews) served in the armies of Song Dynasty general Yue Fei. I doubt he has actual recorded evidence of this, but since every healthy man (barring those who were only children, Buddhist/Taoist monks, sons of widows, etc.) was susceptible to conscription, Jewish men had to have served in the Chinese armies. (Ghostexorcist 19:50, 21 April 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I wasn't. Thank you for giving me this bit of info. I requested my local library purchase Mr Weisz's book. It will take some time to arrive. Thanks again Albert Cheng 00:37, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He recently told me that he has a new book coming out either at the end of this year or earl next year. It is called The Covenant and the Mandate of Heaven: An in-depth cultural study of Judaism and China. (Ghostexorcist 09:24, 24 April 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Great! I'll look for this book when it comes out! Thank you for giving me the heads up! Albert Cheng 02:27, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Weisz emailed me the following ...

The Covenant and the Mandate of Heaven is due to be published next week (barring any last minute obstacles). I will e-mail you.

Meanwhile here is an advanced notice to you of the editorial comment:

Is Judaism the yang of China’s yin?

What cultural bonds tied Judaism and China?

Israel and China, past, present and future.

These are just some of the topics explored in this book in a historical setting: not Chinese nor Jewish, but Chinese AND Jewish. The book compares ancient and contemporary Chinese sources with corresponding Western literature to show that these two cultures balanced each other in a cultural relationship of YIN and YANG: one as a religion that deeply influenced Western cultures and the other in an opposing environment secluded, isolated and little understood by outsiders. The book also presents China and Judaism through the eyes of the people who have faithfully followed their tenets since antiquity. Readers will see these two cultures in a new light: not as "fossils" but as two vibrant cultures tied by invisible bonds to survive and flourish to present day.

Just thought you might like to know. I'll let you know if the book actually comes out next week. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 11:47, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The book is now ready to be purchased. You can buy it here. Mr. Weisz told me that he is taking orders for those who would like the book autographed. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 19:53, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kaifeng Jews / external links[edit]

Just wanted to tell you thanks for adding all those links on the Kaifeng Jews talk page.  :) Yodaat 17:55, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's no problem! Somebody had to do it! Albert Cheng 21:47, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved the external links to a subpage so it won't take up so much room. I added a link to the archive box. Go to talk:Kaifeng Jews to see what I mean. You can access them there are you can just go here Talk:Kaifeng Jews/external links. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 19:59, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DNA testing[edit]

An Israeli doctor and a Chinese sino-judaic scholar are planning to do DNA testing of the descendants of the Kaifeng Jews in May. I have both of their email addresses if you would like them. Just give me your email. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 03:44, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
