Image assistance required[edit]

I hope you can help since WP:AN/I seems to be deaf as a post these days [1] (and this seems to have become a bad habit on that board). User:777a doesn't care much about image copyrights, his images have no source that I can possibly detect, and at least the images of the Danish princesses, Margrethe, Benedikte and Annemarie are copyvios. It is frustrating seeing the same user making ill-faith uploads of the same material (e.g. uploading four copies of the same image of Princess Margrethe under names containing slight typos like that would fool anybody). Would you mind axing some of this rubbish? It is also likely that this person is a sock of another user[2] Valentinian T / C 19:27, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. Valentinian T / C 08:25, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the "not invented here" crack[edit]

_ _ Sorry if NPH ([[not invented here|NPH]]) turned out to give offense. It referred to a comment,

which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals

that i mistakenly recalled as being in the sec'n where i included that lk; in fact it was only at User talk:Jerzy# Pr-US-bio-stub, the difficult-to-lk section preceding User talk:Jerzy#Leonard Peltier that the nom addressed only to me. "Crack" or whatever, it was intended to communicate that however desirable centralized review of stub-tl creation is, there are probably more advantages to considering deletions (esp'ly of Rdrs) on their merits than to considering NPH a significant reason for del'n. In reviewing today, i see that the nom may have already realized that, since he also urges (as i may not have recalled even at that time of (emphasis added by me) "consider[ing] proposing new stub types first." This may be a good lesson for me about writing as carefully as possible, even in such low-impact, low-controversy discussions; it's not impossible that i'm over-correcting in my efforts to rein in my compulsive verbosity and attention to detail.
_ _ As to the portion of your response that addressed my "FMI" question, plz let me know whether you were being sarcastic (perhaps taking my question to be sarcastic), before i undertake responding to the thrust of

US-bio-stub is pretty dreaded too, often needing re-sorted itself; are we supposed to have "presumed" version of every sub-type of US-bio-, to say nothing of for every other nationality? If someone shows all signs of being an American, we shouldn't need verification of their U.S. citizenship just to tag them; if it's entirely unclear, sorted them by occupation only (ideally you'd be sorting them by occupation and nationality in the normal course, for the above-noted reasons).

_ _ In any case, i can see where i might have come across smark-alecky, and that was my fault.

Bot[edit]

Your bot tagged Andrée Mallah as uncategorized, yet it only added a stub tag. Is that an isolated thing or does it happen often? I only ask because stubbing something is the worst way to get it categorized, there are far too many stubs to sift through so it simply gets lost. —Xezbeth 10:59, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{{Indonesia-geo-stub}} split consultation[edit]

I've already taken care of creating the majority of the stub templates and subcats - I have five categories for the five major islands or groups of islands, and I"m down to the last one, which poses a problem. Maluku Islands and New Guinea are grouped together. What would you name the category? Also, there are the last two stub templates, for West Papua and Papua - can you think of templates for them that would avoid conflicts with anything in Papua New Guinea? Aelfthrytha 00:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, could you take a look at my talkpage, Stubsorting Proposals' talkpage, and the Indonesia-related topics notice board. There's a controversy about the split from the members of wikiproject Indonesia, and I think you could provide some valuable insight. Aelfthrytha 17:13, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really know why people are unhappy, because some of them haven't replied to my questions about that. Although I'm trying to be as polite as possible, I'm pretty miffed that the most vociferous objectors don't actually tell me what it is they want me to do or explain. Aelfthrytha 18:16, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies - it was more the foreknowledge - so we could have negotiatied divisions if we had needed to. Sorry to have bothered you both. Thanks for the item on the noticeboard. SatuSuro 02:07, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Johannesburg-stub[edit]

Hi there Alai,

I am getting around to splitting SouthAfrica-geo-stub as was proposed back in March and I had an idea. {{Johannesburg-stub}} is 90% suburbs of Johannesburg but not places and things in Johannesburg itself. What do you think about merging Johannesburg-stub into {{Gauteng-geo-stub}}? Perhaps we could create a SouthAfrica-struct-stub (these are the vast majority of the non-suburb articles)?Thanks--Thomas.macmillan 00:01, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

stub help[edit]

I have created a number templates for rugby union teams as per wss/p the only problem is that I am not sure that I have the templates correctly capitalised. I proposed foo-RugbyUnion-team after discussion at SFD the U was made lowercase but the R was left alone. The proposal was closed as create foo-rugbyunion-team I didn't notice the lowercase r and created with uppercase R it was only when applyingthe template i realised they should be r. Can I as creator request speedy deletion/rename from you before I go through the category to add them. Waacstats 21:57, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphan template[edit]

Hey! I've created a link to the article Petter Stordalen and hence removed the orphan template. I see you keep an eye on orphan articles and thought you might have some input on this... Is one link enough, or do I need to create more for the orphan template to be redundant? Fenrisulfr talk 14:47, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More Ohio stub categories[edit]

Looking at the Ohio school stubs, there seem to be a huge number of them. There's already a category for Columbus-Marion-Chillicothe schools; do you think a proposal for other stubs for the other regions (like with the geo-stubs) would be viable? Nyttend 01:35, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are so many fewer school articles (and, in my mind, likely to have so many fewer) that I don't think county-specific stubs are appropriate. We have geostubs such as northwest-ohio-geo-stub; I think it would work better instead to have a northwest-ohio-school-stub and parallel examples for the nine regions. Nyttend 03:23, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But unlike place articles, school articles are a lot rarer; in rural counties such as my own, there are only a few schools, and even if 1,000,000 people moved here next week it would be some time before we got any more. Nyttend 04:02, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, whatever; you're the stub-sorter, while I'm the geography person who doesn't work much with stubs. It just seemed odd to have a stub template that would be applicable to one article. Whatever it is, in my mind the biggest thing is that we sort them better than we have them now. Nyttend 04:20, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot[edit]

I notice its still adding just a basic stub tag to the shorter uncategorised pages. Is it not possible to add the uncategorised template at the same time? I'm having to trawl through them all manually and tag in case any get lost in the next update. —Xezbeth 13:39, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well thats new. I'm not sure why the length of the article would affect categories in any case. Perhaps another cleanup tag could be useful then, as in my experience articles with just a stub tag are sorted into some obscure stub category and then stew there for months. —Xezbeth 13:58, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, guess I didn't read your earlier reply properly. Thanks for the swift response. —Xezbeth 14:29, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with editor and SFD[edit]

Hi Alai - we may have a problem with User:Thedjatclubrock. I nominated his {{Placeholder}} and its category as a "stub by any other name" at SFD. He's twice removed the sfd templates, and has now blanked the WP:SFD debate. He's probably just about blockable because of it (though for some reason the SFD templates don't have a "do not remove" message like other xFD templates...), but since I'm the one who instigated the SFD I'm not keen to do it myself just yet. I'm asking you and Valentinian to keep an extra two pairs of eyes on things just in case it happens again. Grutness...wha? 01:44, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection these articles[edit]

Could you please Semi-protection these articles as they are regulary being vandalised by anonymous users and registered accounts fewer than four days old.

update:

I don't know what your problem is, but eliminating Virtual Sex Machine is arbitrary and stupid. There is such a product, which not surprisingly was the first. And the clowns that run this wiki thing have seen fit to list all of those and not the original product on the redirect. So much for Wiki being an accurate resource.

Arty stubs[edit]

I hope you remember me. Just dropped in to say that Artillery stubs category has been expanded significantly now. Last time we talked, you said something about stubsense. Is it a tool? If so I would like to use it, coz doing those changes manually took a lot of time for me, so if such a tool is available, it would be very helpful. Anyways the stub category has 96 pages now so that would not be a big problem for stub category creation guidelines. Cheers Kaushal mehta 15:10, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
