August 2008[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Nanikhir, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Benea (talk) 20:13, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ahsan.AIUB and thanks for your note. Unfortunately, Wikipedia can't accept images uploaded by somebody "just because" he was in the Bangladesh Navy. We need to have permission from the Bangladesh Navy itself. You will notice that the Bangladesh Navy website carries a notice "© 2004 BANGLADESH NAVY" on every page, but even if it didn't, copyright doesn't need to be stated in order to exist. --Rlandmann (talk) 20:56, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ahsan.AIUB. The reason it I've reverted it is because it is unsourced and unverified, coming as you say it does, from local people, which even if they are true as you claim, are not sufficient to allow for their inclusion. I'm sympathetic to your aim of 'show the world about the place that people don't know about that' - but additions to this encyclopaedia must be in keeping with our guidelines. You'll notice that a lot of work now being done is being reverted and removed from wikipedia because these contributions often violate our guidelines. Please try and read our basic policies, which I've added below. I'll emphasise: posting copyrighted material is simply unacceptable on wikipedia, either as pictures or as text based information. Posting unverified information, or information from unreliable sources is also not allowed. Finally, please make sure you and your friends are aware of the guidelines set out here, as there has been suspicion of this in the past owing to the similarity of your edits. For these reasons I'm going to revert your edits for now. If you can bring verifiable sources to the talkpages of the articles in question, we can discuss how best to include them in the article. I'll also be happy to copyedit your contributions, as I think you have a little difficulty with English. But please take these policies seriously and try to adhere to them in future, or you may be blocked from editing.
