Everything I have written under the titles Antler orogeny and Sonoma orogeny is referenced to published papers including my own. I have no ambitions to publish any more papers; I am retired from the U.S. Geological Survey. Seems you have replaced the content of two articles with a rewrite based on valid references. However the content was lacking links and accepted Wikipedia formatting. There have been two different reactions. With the Antler orogeny page an experienced user took the time to edit your rewrite to make it "fit" the Wikipedia style and encyclopedia format. It still needs work. On the Sonoma orogeny page you got a different reaction as the changes you made were deemed too drastic. I see User:Mikenorton (who is a geologist) has offered to redo your changes on the Sonoma page and work with you to rewrite it into acceptable Wikipedia style. I would suggest that you thank him for the offer and work with him when he has the time to work on the article. Your version and your solid references are still available in the article history. I thought that was USGS style. Well, welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for the excellent articles. Now that we are reassured this is not (say) some kid ripping-off Granddad's work, I think we will be restoring the Sonoma orogeny material. (Suitably adapted, off course.) Thanks, hike395 for re-formatting Antler orogeny. I know USGS formatting but Wiki's style is a mystery.

Ahlitanah: presumably the same answer applies to the similar edit you did at Antler orogeny? This work reflects some serious research, and possibly something you might be thinking of publishing under your own name. But if it originally appears in Wikipedia, without any comment, any subsequent publication would seem like you had copied it from Wikipedia, which would be quite embarrassing. Adding references can be easy[edit]

Hello! Here's how to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain the Wikipedia policy of verifiability.

Adding well formatted references is actually quite easy:

While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "Cite". Click on it.
Then click on "Templates".
Choose the most appropriate template and fill in as many details as you can. This will add a well formatted reference that is helpful in case the web URL (or "website link") becomes inactive in the future.
Click on Preview when you're done filling out the 'Cite (web/news/book/journal)' to make sure that the reference is correct.
Click on Insert to insert the reference into your editing window content.
Click on Show preview to Preview all your editing changes.

Before clicking on Save page, check that a References header ==References== is near the end of the article.
And check that {{Reflist}} is directly underneath that header.

7. Click on Save page. ...and you've just added a complete reference to a Wikipedia article.

Pictures[edit]

After you have submitted the draft Draft:Eureka Quartzite you can still improve the article while it is waiting for review to be accepted into the main space. Convert[edit]
