My RfA[edit]

Hi, Boricuaeddie, and thanks for your participation in my RfA. I've withdrawn it, and will be writing up an "analysis" of it, which will soon be available at User:Giggy/RfA/Giggy when it's done. Please come around when you get the chance, and give me feedback on how I can improve. And a special thanks for all your kindness in everything :) Thanks again, Giggy UCP 04:00, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFA[edit]

I see that you nominated your self for adminship. I have !voted, and I wish you luck! Politics rule 17:31, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, seeing that you have nominated yourself for adminship has been making me think. I have been thinking since July 15,2007 that I might make an attempt for adminship. While I know you go back to school on August 15,2007, what do you think. I have been thinking if I do attempt it, it would not be to late December 2007, or late Febuary 2008. (Some where in between). If you could give me a few pointers, and if you could suggest any admin coaches, could you let me know. Politics rule 17:46, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I wish you luck in you RFA.Politics rule 17:51, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFA part II[edit]

I came accross this after I read your passage about how it was wrong to boast about achievements. It comes from the Popes first Christmas address 2005 and the purpose of servants in Gods plan of things. I think it also says a lot about the role of admins in our community. Anyway good luck and hope it helps.

35. This proper way of serving others also leads to humility. The one who serves does not consider himself superior to the one served, however miserable his situation at the moment may be. Christ took the lowest place in the world—the Cross—and by this radical humility he redeemed us and constantly comes to our aid. Those who are in a position to help others will realize that in doing so they themselves receive help; being able to help others is no merit or achievement of their own. This duty is a grace. The more we do for others, the more we understand and can appropriate the words of Christ: “We are useless servants” (Lk 17:10). We recognize that we are not acting on the basis of any superiority or greater personal efficiency, but because the Lord has graciously enabled us to do so. There are times when the burden of need and our own limitations might tempt us to become discouraged. But precisely then we are helped by the knowledge that, in the end, we are only instruments in the Lord's hands; and this knowledge frees us from the presumption of thinking that we alone are personally responsible for building a better world. In all humility we will do what we can, and in all humility we will entrust the rest to the Lord. It is God who governs the world, not we. We offer him our service only to the extent that we can, and for as long as he grants us the strength. To do all we can with what strength we have, however, is the task which keeps the good servant of Jesus Christ always at work: “The love of Christ urges us on” (2 Cor 5:14). Deus Caritas Est

RFA[edit]

Hi Eddie. I've commented at your RFA. Please don't take my comments harshly. As you know, I research all RFA candidates pretty thoroughly, and speak honestly so that my contributions may hopefuly further this project as a whole. Sometimes that makes it hard, when one has had positive personal interaction with candidates, but honesty to my feelings is a guideline for me. Best Wishes, and I hope you make it - be ready for a horrible week of checking! I know !! Pedro |  Chat  20:12, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eddie, you monster! How could you not let me nominate you? On another note, didn't you notice User:Husond/RFA - you were going to get nommed by the best if you waited a bit! Maaaan, I only hope this RfA doesn't get a similar result to either of mine (inexperienced in the first, outspoken in the second, although I doubt #2 will apply to you). Anyway, good luck! Ilustrado[edit]

Hello. Thank you for creating Ilustrado. Unfortunately, I have tagged the first sentence of the article with {{fact}} because the Spanish word for "enlightened one" is not ilustrado; it's iluminado. If you can find any references to prove that I'm wrong, then add them to the article and remove the template. Thank you. --Boricuaeddie 02:02, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Silver mining in Arizona[edit]

Thanks for the kind words about Silver mining in Arizona. It's kind of a work in progress right now. Give me a week or so to add to it.Plazak 22:46, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If I had known, I would have written a better article to begin with. As I note in the intro, about 90% of the silver mined in Arizona was produced as byproduct, mostly from copper mining; so 44 million troy ounces is a gross understatement of silver production. It would be accurate to say that Tombstone produced 32 million troy ounces, or that silver was first discovered in Arizona in 1538.Plazak 05:13, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Did You Know... blurb looks good. Thanks for taking an interest.Plazak 02:26, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RFA[edit]

I volunteer at the office. I am not a "Foundation member," as in the Board. I volunteer with press-related inquiries and press lists and the like. And I really hope you don't get your feelings hurt by my comments. Sure it upset me to see your comments to other people, but I understand why, and I'm sure that with time, you'll mature more. I know I did, just like countless other 14-year-olds. :) If I see more improvement, I'll probably support your new request next time. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 04:12, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Eddie. I see you have withdrawn you RfA amidst a claim of harassment and violation of privacy. I'm not sure what incident you are referring to but you should probably report it: this is usually taken quite seriously. As for the RfA itself, I do believe it is best for you not to be an admin right now but I do hope you'll stick around and continue to contribute in other ways. Sorry. Politics rule 19:02, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to see that you withdrew you RfA. Age shoild never be a problem on RfA and its unfortunate that another editor has been caught up in the argument. Perhaps the biggest thing against you is that you left the "Retirement" notice on your userspace for a week and were still involved with the project, otherwise I just can't understand the field turned so quickly . 4000+ edits is no joke and nobody can say that you are not committed. Don't lose faith, if Wikipedia has lost a great potential sysop, you have a few months to prove them how and you will sail your next RfA. Good Luck Mike33 - t@lk 19:05, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Wikilove Eddie. Just keep at what you are good at, do as much as you can to prove the opposers wrong and keep the Wikilove :-) Mike33 - t@lk 19:53, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
First thanks for the Wikilove. You are not inmature, and uncivil, and Wikipedia had a chance to !vote in a good editor to adminship. I don't get why people did not support you, but support others who don't deserve adminship! Anyway, good luck. Politics rule 20:00, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I find it hypocritical to thank someone for Wikilove and then say a sentence like "I don't get why people did not support you, but support others who don't deserve adminship!" Do not discount the reasons behind people's votes just because you disagree with them. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 22:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

What I am doing is putting each U.S Senator on my page, and when I change it, I put it in *User:Politics rule/U.S Senators, so people can get to know about the u.S elected officals. If you can do that, then I would appricate it. Politics rule 20:15, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfA[edit]

Hey, per your statement on RfA, I believe you misunderstood me. I believe XfD's are the best way of gathering consensus, however how I interpret consensus is different to almost all other users, that is why I avoid voting on them, and why I will avoid closing them. Could you please reconsider/consider reconsidering your vote? Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 22:38, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, and I have answered your question. Because my idea of consensus is so radically different, I recuse myself from all but the most clear-cut consensus-requiring decisions. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 22:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No. How do CSD, RFPP, REP, etc? I know what consensus is, I just beleive the definition of the word "consensus" is different to what it is used for on-wiki. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 22:46, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If there were serious opposes (and not just an IP with 3 edits wanting to edit it) I would recuse for another admin to handle, as it is a controversial request. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 22:51, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see hundreds of requests for page protection, protected edit requests, csds, etc go by without a single oppose, and implemented. That is where I believe I can help out. If you believe it is necessary, add a question asking what my opinion of on-wiki consensus is, and I will answer. My view is relatively similair to traditional, I just believe it doesnt work in all situations, so I don't use it alot. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 22:57, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I misunderstood some things - I have now re-answered the approriate question (Q4), and changed my stance on consensus. Could you please re-consider/re-comment on your comment? Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 23:08, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do not ignore, I give lower weight. Because consensus is a judge of the communities wishes, and new users often do not understand the reasonings for things. By new users, I meant people with less than 10-15 edits. Anyone higher than that it would barely affect. Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 23:12, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spells in Harry Potter[edit]

My reasoning behind the nomination was that the article for non-canonical spells had gone to AfD and been deleted and many of the issues brought up in the debate are shared with the cannonical spells article. Felt it was better to establish a consensus now and get it out of the way rather than have editors work on an article which could well end up being deleted. Of course I could well be completely wrong and there wll be no issues, the article will survive and no harm will be done. I personally think that "Spells" might fall into a catagory of good articles where the policy guidelines may be somewhat lacking. [[Guest9999 02:25, 3 August 2007 (UTC)]][reply]

Nick[edit]

It amazes me that there are administrators who continue to defend and/or commiserate with Nick. His MO is to threaten to block first, provide (tenuous or false) justifications second, and discuss rationally third if ever. (After third, and sometimes before, comes his insistence that the matter is over and be dropped.) The pattern seems to repeat quite a bit, and I wonder if it's not the reason for his having wiped his User page and Talk page and deleted their histories not too long ago. He claims support to the contrary, but from my observations and experiences, Nick is not administrator material. Robert K S 01:08, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PAGES THAT NEED TO BE CREATED--PRONTO[edit]

I 'm astonished at the fact that MANY wiki pages exist that shouldn't , while others that shold exist remain non-existant. Here are some that should be created.

Once again, way too many pages on wiki need to be deleted, while way too many need to be created a.s.a.p. All you have to do is an Internet search on Yahoo on each of the aforementioned names in quotations. (Eg. "William Ludel"). I hope that Wiki can be a much better source of info for all who seek knowledge. Thanks! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.51.243.50 (talkcontribs).

In reply to your comments on my talk page: I think that I may have added my explanatory comments to the talk pages in question after I added the {{POV-check}} (or {{POV-check-section}}) tags. Thus, you have nothing to apologize for :-) 69.143.80.200 02:00, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In follow-up: I see how you fixed the POV by adding the word "supposedly," but that word serves only to question the factual basis of the lawsuit, rather than the underlying assumption that if the plaintiff's version of facts are true, the company is doing something illegal, so for the time being I'm putting the {{POV-check-section}} tag back. 69.143.80.200 03:43, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Do you think the stub tag from the Measle and the Wrathmonk article could be removed? RuneWiki777 14:54, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Taíno vandal[edit]

Hey Eddie, please keep a eye on the edits of this user User:Japerez, he blanks page content and uses misleading edit summaries, his favorite target so far is Orocobix‎. Also he sometimes uses this IP addresses 151.204.70.44 and 151.204.77.43. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:08, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I know the process, however it seems like he has a dynamic IP address so a checkuser will probably come in dry, I was about to give him a nice blanking template when I received your message. BTW has Boricuabot tagged all the remaining project pages? I know there had to be some of them left but I think now its the time to deal with some irrelevant pages and focus our project's scope, deleting all might not be necessary, but we need to create some pages that deal with minor artists and so on, something simmilar to what me and a few other users did with Characters in Devil May Cry. Also there are two GACs waiting review so when they are done with I will let you know so you can update the Newsletter, cheers!- Caribbean~H.Q. 22:17, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe, I remember the good old days :P Now I will begin working with a list of articles that I think might be better in said compendium articles today, and will publish a preliminary list on my Sandbox tommorow along the sub-page for the Universitary project I proposed a few weeks back. The two GACs are Carly Colón wich was renominated after consensus was reached and Miguel Cotto, I personally have my hopes on Cotto passing with no problem since I worked with it myself, now Carly was entirely rewritten by members of the wrestling project after I did so from a Out of Universe perspective so chances are it gets the 'On Hold' treatment, but if it passes I won't complain since I did the entire referencing work here. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:08, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You mention here that it searches the stub categories, amongst others. Do you think it could then add class=stub to the project banner for articles which were in the stub cats? Just a thought on having less unrated articles. Giggy Talk 23:27, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Help[edit]

Hi Boricuaeddie, I was wondering if you could help me with cleaning up part of my RfA as you seem extremely active on those pages. A user with whom I went through dispute mediation and have had general disputes with has added 4 additional questions. I don't mind answering legitimate questions but the problem is, these aren't really in a suitable format or wording to actually be answered, as they portray me as a poor editor before I've even answered them. For example the user has [SIC] tagged comments I've made, which is fairly incivil especially for talk page comments. The user in question recently recieved an 8 hour block for edit warring on this matter. I don't mind answering legitimate questions by users who are genuinely interested in the answers, but these don't meet that criteria as I think you'll see. Equally, I'm happy to explain any of my edits thoroughly, but the format hes asking me to do that in doesn't give me much room. So, I don't want to remove his questions as I'm not trying to hide anything, I'm not ashamed of any edits I've made and I stand by my good conduct and contributions. I was wondering if you would review his questions, and if you agree with me that they are incivil, and detrimentally worded, remove them from the RfA. I will then (or if you'd like to you can) leave a message on his talk page offering to answer a single, simpler, more direct question that can actually recieve a proper answer. For example he's accusing me of having a meat puppet? its literally the first I've ever heard of it and if hes going to make allegations like that we need to see some proof. Thanks for your time, help and +support ;) WikipedianProlific(Talk) 13:50, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boricuaeddie, I wanted to explain why I put an {{advert}} tag into the article Lorem Ipsum Books, because yesterday it was rejected as an advertisement. And it does sound like a promotional article, so I added that tag. I hope you don't mind! ArielGold 14:20, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, is that what had happened? Was that account used or announced to be used to confuse or deceive others, or as a bad hand account? As I understand it, WP:SOCK does allow for sockpuppets if they're not used in any abusive way. —AldeBaer 03:23, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

reminder to mentor[edit]

Hola Mentors!

Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors

Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.

I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!

Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! Thelmadatter 19:24, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter[reply]

WP:TALK#User_talk_pages. No hay más na que hablar. :) --Pasajero 00:32, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Jmm. Ésa sí que es buena. Tendré que leerla con más cuidado. Continuemos esta conversación otro día que no quise quedarme mucho tiempo en Wikipedia. --Pasajero 00:38, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Miriam[edit]

That's nothing yet. I'm going to write about the rest of the Boricuas in NASA. Those deletionist idiots said that they were less-then-notable, yeah right. If the Puerto Ricans in NASA is saved, we can work it into a featured list. Tony the Marine 00:36, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Puerto Rico/Middle America[edit]

Hello! Yes, you do live in the region of Middle America, according to some sources. Actually, it's not that weird an edit. 'Middle America' does have a number of senses, but one is of a region comprising Mexico, the countries of Central America, and the Caribbean. There you go. Corticopia 00:57, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great -- take care! :) Corticopia 01:00, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WELI article[edit]

I respectfully appeal the deletion of the WELI article. I believe it is similar in format to other CT radio station articles and complies with NPOV and non-promotional guidelines. Perhaps the agenda of the station's morning host is controversial. That does not mean it does not exist or is not newsworthy. Given the stated interests of the editor, I think his POV may have influenced the decision. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.14.84.60 (talk) 14:50, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

Questions on Bots[edit]

Hi Eddie, I was considering of creating a bot, but I absolutely don't have any knowledge programming using AWB. Can you give me some hints? Thanks for your time! --Hirohisat Kiwi 05:39, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Eddie. I was planning on running it for WP:WPJ, something like Giggabot, to place {{WPJ}} and mark articles as stubs or so. --Hirohisat Kiwi 00:45, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay I think I'm ready for the steps. I'm not in a rush, so please don't hurry. --Hirohisat Kiwi 04:34, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Done --Hirohisat Kiwi 02:47, 30 August 2007 (UTC) P.S. Where's Giggy?[reply]
Done with the first step. --Hirohisat Kiwi 01:58, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Er..I don't really get it. --Hirohisat Kiwi 23:21, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stay Off My Talk Page[edit]

First, you left a threat on my talk page without just provocation- a single edit conflict. I told you not to ever do this again. Then, I politely answered your question.

Second, you left another threat on my talk page without provocation and failed to respond to my answer at all.

You obviously have bad manners, no real interest in the issues underlying an edit conflict and insufficient grasp of English. Please stay out of my life on Wikipedia.

--BenWillard —Preceding unsigned comment added by BenWillard (talkcontribs) 12:01, August 30, 2007 (UTC)

Third, you left another threat on my talk page without provocation. How many times do I have to ask you to just leave me alone? I don't even know what issue these threats pertain to since we are not currently debating anything. I have not done anything to you. I just strongly desire for threats and obscenities to be kept off my personal talk page. Please respect my wishes for my talk page? You are welcome to read my message at Samboy-talk page-section "lectures on bad manners" to review my way of thinking and my interpretation of Wikipedia policy involving personal talk pages but do not threaten me again.

Unassessed?[edit]

Check it out the system is identifying your monobooks [2][3] as a unassessed articles, well anyways I guess by now they can be moved out of it until its needed again.- Caribbean~H.Q. 20:12, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have never been a fan of using my monobook but doesn't the script recognize it if the template is used in the "nowiki" format? - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:20, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well nevermind, guess I will update Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Puerto Rico articles by quality statistics manually when WP 1.0 bot decides to update it, anyways the backlog is now gone, we are one of the few project with no backlog.- Caribbean~H.Q. 20:27, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! going to have dinner now, see you around. - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:31, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Giggy[edit]

Doesn't stink that that Sexy Australian left, just kidding. Anyway, kinda sad he is gone. --Tλε Rαnδom Eδιτor (tαlk) 20:18, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would you care to explain over email. --Tλε Rαnδom Eδιτor (tαlk) 21:40, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

customizing notices[edit]

To customize a notice just pull it in by adding subst: like this: {{subst:Editor review}}, and then save. The wikicode will then be in your source text, and you can edit it directly without affecting the template. I hope you find that tip useful. The Transhumanist    20:46, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not that smart. Sorry about that. I am also looking at doing a editor review. But have no clue to set one up. What do I do. Politics rule 22:51, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I have set it up. Please feel free to comment! Politics rule 23:13, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Titanic[edit]

For whatever reason, your version was displaying as a blank page, so I reverted it as a apparent mistake. Can't imagine what went wrong—apologies, anyway. Deltabeignet 02:28, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And a second time. When you removed the internal note and marked it: rmv hidden message per WP:BEANS, you again blanked the page. Somehow removing this blanks the article. Wildhartlivie 04:32, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Giggy's departure.[edit]

I'm gutted. I don't know the reasons behind it but I get the hint it was forced by outside of Wiki reasons. Real shame though - I know you guys worked together closely. Pedro |  Chat  10:52, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Giggy[edit]

Hey Eddie, I'm quite saddened about Giggy's departure. Can I borrow your memorial thing? Thanks, Neranei (talk) 21:20, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'm sad to see him go. :( You made a nice memorial. Neranei (talk) 21:23, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto here. Csn I too borrow your memorial? --Hirohisat Kiwi 23:21, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Giggy[edit]

I can't beleive he left. Are there any reasons you can think of? I was thinking maybe it could be because of this. Cheers,JetLover 22:46, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
