Parkinson's disease[edit]

Hi -- I just want to let you know that I have temporarily moved the material you added to the talk page, as there are several aspects of it that need discussion. In particular, the last three references cited are not compatible with WP:MEDRS. The PD article is a Featured Article, and all edits need to be carefully considered. Looie -- Thanks for the help. I was directed to the concept via an even less supported update to Treatment of Parkinson's disease, an edit which I attempted to massage but for which you might find more appropriate actions. My goal with the PD main article update was to throw up some sources and text to see if anyone else could help work to determine the merit of including information regarding the theory; I am not experienced with the guidelines for inclusion and support of information on Wikipedia so thanks for your help. If you can direct to me any further guidance materials I'd appreciate it. In particular, can you help me understand why the citations I included do not meet WP:MEDRS guidelines? For medical articles, the preference is to rely on review papers rather than on primary research papers, i.e., papers that report new data. The rationale is that for many medical topics it is possible to support virtually any point of view one can imagine by cherry-picking studies -- the view tends to be much more stable if we stick to review papers published in the most reputable journals. That way, we allow the experts to integrate the masses of research rather than trying to do it ourselves. It also helps to keep articles maintainable -- the Wikipedia system is not suited to maintaining articles that have hundreds of references, as could easily happen with medical topics. This isn't an absolute hard-and-fast rule, but it is something we try to stick to, especially for Featured Articles.
