Human consumption of dog meat[edit]

Merging Greek Recon into Hellenic Polytheism[edit]

Adelamae, after seeing the caliber of the Hellenic_polytheism entry, I have no problem with merging Greek Reconstructionism into it. As long as reconstructionism is explained as a methodology and is explicitly differentiated from neo-paganism. Also, the indigenous /ethnic /ancestor veneration components represented in Greece should be detailed without Americanized biases and it would probably be wise to document the disagreements over syncretism so it doesn't become an issue later when the past editors reappear and start fiddling. If someone emerges who feels more strongly about the matter than I do, the entry can be resurrected. Let me know what you think. Good job! Cyberdenizen 20:17, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Requested translations-part 1 (Tertullian, De corona militis, ch.11)[edit]

Latin: "Apud hunc tam miles est paganus fidelis quam paganus est miles fidelis."

English: In (the view of / His eyes / His view) ['God'- (deo, deus, dei, et cetera) is not part of the passage, but the context strongly implies that Tertullian is speaking as God’s proxy here. ;) ], the believer [person of faith, person who is extremely steadfast and reliable (as a Christian in this case)] who is a soldier ['of Christ'... again, implied but not written] is as much a soldier ['of Christ'] as a believer [steadfast and reliable Christian].


So, to put it in more modern phrasing, "The way God sees it, whether you fight for him or die for him, it is all the same, and you are just as much of a Christian no matter which option you choose." Just my own take on it, mind you, bearing in mind that I was 1.) raised in an arch-conservative RC household, with the usual Catholic school indoctrination, but am now sitting behind a very different reconstructionist neo-pagan POV. Biases are important in interpretation. ;)


Tertullian's writings are not particularly familiar to me (a bit on the edge of what I usually deal with, as you can probably figure), but after thinking about it for a little while, he seems to be thinking of 2 Timothy and Hebrews 11. Those two, at least, are the ones that came to mind when I parsed through De corona militis, chs. 10, 11, and 12 in the Latin edition.

Atheos[edit]

Pentagram[edit]

Actually, it is a pentacle, not a pentagram. It is a "pentagram (circumscribed)," yes, though I think this is still less than the whole truth. A pentagram would just be the five pointed star. Facebook[edit]

Hi, my apologies I saw that duplication later, and wasn't sure where it was most appropriate. You seem to be doing a lot on this entry, so you can delete or incorporate it as you please. I was a former undergrad there years ago and remember the print version of the book being called "The Face Book", but today I read the entry for 'facebook' (not 'thefacebook') and according to that article, I learned that many such beginning-of-the-year student directories are similarly named elsewhere at (some/many?) other colleges, and may not necessarily be identifying to the website's origin at harvard college.       • AdelaMae I've decided to stay after all. I've moved/changed the name to Cherokee Society. Some where having fits because it was focusing on the Cherokee. They could not or would not understand that I was taking one of number tribes and was going to focus on other tribes as the article progressed. Native American spirituality - > Cherokee society[edit]

Bumpusmills1 (talk · contribs), after saying that he had left the Wiki forever, has come back to edit "his" article. He removed all previous talk form the talk page and moved the article to "Cherokee society". He has left comments on various pages (inlcuding the talk page of the article adn his user page) insisting that anyone who wants to edit "his" article must talk to him first. I have previously presented Bumpus with information about Wikipedia policy on article ownership, which he hasn't followed. I agree that there should be more on Native American issues on the Wikipedia, but I have no expertise on this. I don't know if the content that he edits is accurate, but I know that his methods are brusk. I have been reprimanded by him multiple times to back off and leave his article alone. How would you like somebody too go in and mess them up and then you log onto it and see that all of your hard work was gone? You would not like it. I am a 60% Native American and I have been a historian for nearly 30 years. I don't have to prove this too you or anyone else for that matter.
