Host in Teahouse

Hi greetings, I would like to become a host in Teahouse. But when I editing I saw a place about badges gained. What should I do there? Please help.--PATH SLOPU (Talk) 12:58, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

@Path slopu: Hello there. Based on my observations, you are not very ready for it. Hosts should be experienced users which are able to answer different types of questions and willing to lend a hand to users seeking for help (I am not trying to boast or anything ). If you think you're ready or you disagree with me, you may visit Wikipedia:Teahouse/Host start. Regards —AE (talkcontributions) 13:02, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. Kindly please tell about badges.--PATH SLOPU (Talk) 13:04, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
@Path slopu: Sorry for not answering your second question. Do you mean Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge? —AE (talkcontributions) 13:06, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
Yes. PATH SLOPU (Talk) 13:09, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
@Path slopu: Well, it's like barnstars or WikiLove. If you wish to give these badges to another editor, you may copy and paste importScript("User:Ocaasi/WikiLoveinstallscript.js"); into your common.js and save the page. Then the badges can be found in the WikiLove tab on user talk page. (I assume you know how to use WikiLove) —AE (talkcontributions) 13:14, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
Actually I don't care about these badges, they are just for fun. —AE (talkcontributions) 13:18, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. I will work good before become a host. I placed the code, but I can't see any changes in Wikilove tool. Please help. Thank youPATH SLOPU (Talk) 13:27, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
Me too. You may ask the author for help. —AE (talkcontributions) 13:43, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

This article and publishing about an ongoing court case is outright malice on Mrs Agnes Kagure

The author is looking to tarnish the name of a successful insurance executive because she was nominated for a political seat, why would wikipedia allow such posts to be published when the author is only quoting news paper articles that have mostly been deleted eg the article from the standard newspaper.

Please pull down this article . It doesn't help to tarnish someones name, please note am only disputing the land fraud section. thank you in advance

Hello

If you're looking for a source, just look at entry level job adverts, the posts by unemployed youth on sites like studentroom or do a search for something like entry level jobs require experience.

If none of those are good enough, then what would be?

RE: kamoha undo

Hi Abel,

Thanks very much for your reply earlier today.

This was it: "Firstly, like any other articles, materials in Wikipedia must be written in sentence case. Secondly, the article seems to be talking about the organisation instead the literal meaning of the word. Thirdly, the content you added is not supported by reliable source. Regards " I will now look at each of the 3 points you raised:

1 - "sentence case" - Thank you for pointing that out I'll be sure to remember that next time I edit page, always appreciate constructive assistance.

2 - "article seems to be talking about the organisation instead the literal meaning of the word" - Yes I agree with you, so that brings up three points, 1) the question on whether the page should be allowed under Notability rules, I agree with the Notability issues posted on the page, who is kamoha org, have they got any substantial notability in the English world? 2) If point 1 is invalid, then should the Article Title not be renamed to 'The Kamoha Organisation in Israel' or something of that ilk. Or 3 the page remains Titled in current form, but we first discuss the meaning and origin of word, and then point out the organisation.

3 - "The content you added is not supported by reliable source" - Possibly my writing was not correct, however, https://translate.google.com/ will translate kamoha, from Hebrew to English as "like you", and it will also translate the word kamoha from Hawaiian to English as "collection", the wording can be changed as per 1, and firmed up against the evidence supported by translate.google.com

let me know your thoughts to my reply. all the best, Oracle4.

I saw your revert here, but I really don't have time to check through this complex set of changes today.

However did you notice that there are at least two IPs active today? There are a lot of changes here since the last stable in August. Have you (or could you please) take a look over the longer history too. Thanks Andy Dingley (talk) 13:35, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Edit Summary

Hi Abelmoschus Esculentus, I'm not meaning to be rude, but was this a suitible edit summary? I understand the need for the removal of the vandalism, (which is great), but calling anyone a "faggot", isn't very civil... unless you were calling them the tasty english meatballs, which would be fine. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:14, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

@Lee Vilenski: Great! I'll call them "tasty english meatballs" or "cells (?)" next time. You're not rude, don't worry. —AE (talkcontributions) 13:22, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
No problem, just thought I'd point it out. Being English, the word doesn't have much of the same connotations that it does elsewhere, and I do love me some cooked faggot and mash. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 13:30, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
@Lee Vilenski: I think I need an apology to apologize here. Dodger67 Thanks for redacting the revisions. I'll use a more proper edit summary and be civil. —AE (talkcontributions) 13:58, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
Glad that's sorted (as I can't delete edits). What type of apology were you looking for? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:25, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
It's my apology. Sorry. —AE (talkcontributions) 14:05, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

You will be blocked if you violate the three-revert rule

I feel very sad that my request for rollback rights was rejected. Please let me know where I was wrong though I was very clear for why I needed it and when I asked an admin to rollback for me; he said that such behaviour is not gonna take me nowhere. I was like what behaviour is he talking about and just asking for a rollback. Harsh Rathod Poke me! 12:12, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Rollback is mainly used to revert vandalism - a type of edit that is aimed to make Wikipedia worse. According to the conversation between you, Beeblebrox, Mz7 and Juliancolton (courtesy ping) in the PERM page, you falsely identified this as vandalism and used rollback to revert it. The edit you reverted is a good-faith edit (remove unreliable sources and copyedit) which should not be reverted using rollback according to Wikipedia:Rollback#When to use rollback. Also, you tend to revert Pk41946's edits solely because you think the user has editcountitis. Same thing - the edits are made in good-faith. You need a better understanding of vandalism and have a better judgement on whether you should use rollback or not. For example, taking the advantage of having rollback and using it to revert-war with another editor will lead to your rollback rights being revoked or maybe blocked. Or else, you will be stubbornly arguing with administrators about why you can't get rollback.
Being polite and respect others are good moral values. From the conversation mentioned above, I can see that you are too self-confident and largely relying on your own judgements, while neglecting issues raised by administrators (or experienced users). They have stayed here longer than you, and they are elected as administrators by the community. One of the most important quality an administrator needs to have is having a good / wise judgement. I have never seen an administrator with poor judgement who can survive here while not being de-sysoped. Next time, please listen to advice or opinions given by these users. They are not trying to fuck with you - but to help you. You should really learn from your mistakes, work them out, keep cool and don't lose your temper. You will have rollback reinstated after some time. Good luck. Cheers —AE (talkcontributions) 13:16, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for the detailed and helpful response, AE. You've said it better than I could have. I've never met anyone who takes joy in rejecting rollback applications, and even in the cases where we have no choice, it isn't a reflection of the editor's value. My mantra at RfA has always been, "adminship is not an award" – well, the same is true for all of the unbundled permissions, like rollback. Being an excellent contributor doesn't necessarily mean you're suited for rollback, and conversely, receiving the rollback right doesn't mean you've been deemed a perfect editor. – Juliancolton | Talk 14:38, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
However, there must be some people here who takes joy in watching others’ rollback permission being revoked. —AE (talkcontributions) 06:20, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) I would hope not. I prefer to think that most seasoned observers would view such an event with sympathetic dismay and equanimity, whilst understanding, in the broader picture, the necessities involved. If you do find anyone gloating, it would be seen at AN/I as verging on WP:HARASS, and should should be dealt with robustly and immediately. —SerialNumber54129 paranoia /cheap sh*t room 14:03, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
As AE mentioned above, this was a misuse of rollback, and your failure to recognize this is the main reason I would have declined your request at this time. Additionally, I want to point out that you can also gain the ability to easily "rollback" multiple edits by installing Twinkle. Alternatively, you can do it manually by following the directions at Help:Reverting#Manual reverting. There is absolutely no need to bother the administrator that denied your rollback requests, asking him to make rollbacks on your behalf, which is why messages like the ones at User talk:Juliancolton#Bhojpuri cinema will not reflect well on a future request for the permission. Mz7 (talk) 18:20, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
In fact, the edits at Bhojpuri cinema were not vandalism either, so that would have also been an inappropriate use of rollback. Please review the definition of vandalism on Wikipedia carefully, as well as WP:AGF. Mz7 (talk) 18:38, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Please don't worry about the future because I'll never request for rollback flag again now. I'll ask to other editors on teahouse whenever I'll need help to rollback any edits. Harsh Rathod Poke me! 13:13, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Why? You may install Twinkle to rollback edits without the permission. You don’t need to worry about your rollback rights being revoked since you don’t have it :-P (although you may be blocked instead). Twinkle also features various useful and handy maintenance widgets which may be extremely helpful. —AE (talkcontributions) 14:13, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

I've one doubt. I never faced it before. Please read the marketing section of Nagraj and Sanki Daroga. What I want to say is that the prose is strickingly similar. I can say that he copied it from Nagraj to Sanki Daroga when he submitted it. Is it right to do this? Whenever I write an article I always arrange my source news articles chronological ly w.r.t. dates. Extract the required info and form sentences accordingly. I know my grammar is not good but that can't stop me from writing. 😎 Harsh Rathod Poke me! 13:28, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

It’s fine as long as the content is true, accurate and verifiable. You may want to start a subsection instead of using the horizontal rule to separate sections. —AE (talkcontributions) 14:21, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

I copyedited the page and found that the statment was wrong. I've removed it. Harsh Rathod Poke me! 17:23, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Someone bothering me

Hello AE,

This didn't involve you but I came to ask you. This user keeps undoing what I wrote for absolutely no reason. Could you please offer some insight on this? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zainchupacabra (talkcontribs) 22:38, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello Zainchupacabra. Which user are you referring to? —AE (talkcontributions) 09:21, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) That will be administrator Bkonrad then  :) as seen here. Good luck with that! ——SerialNumber54129 09:26, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
Thank you Serial Number 54129. Bkonrad didn't undo your edits for "absolutely no reason". As seen in his edit summary here, Black Panther (film) includes the word "Panther" and it's an unambiguous partial title match with less relevance to it (more significant risk of confusion), which should not be included in disambiguation pages. See WP:PTM for more. —AE (talkcontributions) 09:41, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
Adding ping for Zainchupacabra —AE (talkcontributions) 09:41, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
Although, @AE, it is ironic perhaps that Bkonrad's signature is actually in violation of our customized signature guideline, viz:
Signatures that link to, but do not display, the user's username (for example by signing with a nickname, as in User:Nickname or Nickname) can be confusing for editors (particularly newcomers). The actual username always appears in the page history, so using just the nickname on the relevant talk page can make your signed comments appear to be from a different person

  • Partial blocks should be available for testing in October on the Test Wikipedia and the Beta-Cluster. This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. You can expect more updates and an invitation to help with testing once it is available.
  • The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team is currently looking for input on how to measure the effectiveness of blocks. This is in particular related to how they will measure the success of the aforementioned partial blocks.
  • Because of a data centre test, you will be able to read but not edit the Wikimedia projects for up to an hour on 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time.

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee has, by motion, amended the procedure on functionary inactivity.
  • The community consultation for 2018 CheckUser and Oversight appointments has concluded. Appointments will be made by October 11.
  • Following a request for comment, the size of the Arbitration Committee will be decreased to 13 arbitrators, starting in 2019. Additionally, the minimum support percentage required to be appointed to a two-year term on ArbCom has been increased to 60%. ArbCom candidates who receive between 50% and 60% support will be appointed to one-year terms instead.
  • Nominations for the 2018 Arbitration Committee Electoral Commission are being accepted until 12 October. These are the editors who help run the ArbCom election smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering for this role, please consider nominating yourself.

Help

Hey AE, I hope your doing well. I need an introduction to merging articles because it seems like I'm not doing something right. I tried to request a merge for Franklin Academy and merge it to Wake Forest, North Carolina. My edit was then reverted. Could you properly introduce me to merging and redirecting articles and identify why my edit was considered "Innapropriate"? Thanks. – Yanjipy (talk) 02:17, 8 October 2018 (UTC) (Pardon my typing as I am typing through mobile Wikipedia)

You might start by explaining why it's an inappropriate merger, and what WP:BEFORE means. John from Idegon (talk) 02:45, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi Yanjipy. Per WP:OVERLAP, merging should be avoided when the resulting article would be too long or "clunky". In Wake Forest, North Carolina#Education, it only listed the schools without the synopsis of every school. If you merged the two articles, Wake Forest, North Carolina#Education will have a brief introduction to the school, while others don't. If other schools also have a synopsis, the article will be too "clunky". Also, the topics are discrete subjects warranting their own articles, even though they might be short. As John from Idegon says, you need to consider whether the article could be improved rather than merging (WP:BEFORE). I did a quick Google on it [7]. It seems that the article can be improved by adding more sources. Please don't duplicate posts btw. —AE (talkcontributions) 12:38, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
Thank you AE for the information. Although, I have thought I have been applying the WP:BEFORE technique before publishing my edits. I guess I'm just going to have to apply it even more, as you would say it. And by the way John, can you please explain to me why you won't reply to my question about copyright? In fact, will you ever reply or answer it? – Yanjipy (talk) 00:08, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi Abelmoschus Esculentus! I hope you're doing well and that you're having a great day. I just wanted to draw your attention to a revert to an IP troll that you made here (information now revDel'd) to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation. The IP user left a new discussion on this page calling everyone an offensive and pejorative word in the text and edit summary. Your response correctly removed the text, but you responded in the edit summary calling the IP user the same exact thing back. I just wanted to message you about it is all :-).

I understand that the IP user was being a complete troll and their only purpose on that page was to be completely disruptive and to offend others. However, two wrongs don't make a right - we're expected to behave in a civil manner to everyone and refrain from making personal attacks toward others (even blatant vandals, trolls, or LTA users), and to refrain from feeding the trolls whenever and as much as possible. Absolutely no benefit would come from the edit summary you responded with, and it only gives the user exactly what he/she wants: attention, the (false) impression that what they're doing is causing frustration, stress, or hardship on others to remove, and the incentive to continue or (in many if not most cases) increase the amount, rate, or severity of the disruption they're causing.

Please keep this in mind when you revert disruption in the future. How we respond to vandalism, disruption, trolling, and LTA activity is just as important as how we manage and remove it. Thanks for your diligence, for working to clean up disruption, and for your time and energy keeping the project free of it as possible. It means a lot and your good work doesn't go unnoticed; I'm just here to help you give the best of yourself when you handle such things and to make sure that we don't encourage more disruption as we clean it up. Else it'll just create more work for everyone ;-). Thanks again, and feel free to message me on my user talk page if you have any questions or input. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:46, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
