Edit Summaries[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. - 220 of Borg 15:20, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cut-and-paste move[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Jains in Maharashtra a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen.

I have now moved the page to Jainism in Maharashtra, which is what I think you were trying to do. Best wishes! --Deskford (talk) 22:51, 25 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to List of Hindus, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Automatic portal updates[edit]

I've just seen your edit summaries as you updated Portal:Jainism. Yes, portals can be made to show a random selection of articles, pictures, and so on, using the {{Random portal component}} mechanism. Have a look at Portal:Cornwall, as an example, with its "Show new selections" link. If you'd like to switch to this method but find it too daunting to set up, I'd be happy to help out - but be aware that I know almost nothing about Jainism. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:00, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help, I was finally able to implement the random components. Thanks!--Aayush18 (talk) 20:27, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tamil Jain Mutt?[edit]

Hi Aayush, I have seen your edits in Jainism article. Keep up your good work.

My comments for your queries are: 1. I will try to find out - however the term "Matha" does not sound right; do you mean Mutt (Tamil word MUDAM) 2. In Tamil, 'Mel' means Western side; Mel Sithamoor is West part of village Sithamoor. Again the term Matha may be incorrect. I will try to find out through my relatives in Tamilnadu the specific details you are after. Suresh Elangovan (talk) 09:22, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Matha is the Sanskrit form of the word. Mutt is an old spelling sometimes used in English. Thus they are both correct.Malaiya (talk)
Yes, that is my website. Incidentally, I note that Tamil Jain article does not mention Tirukkural. Most scholars do consider that a Jain work. Malaiya (talk) 18:34, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia article on Godiji Parshwanath[edit]

Ayush,

I had seen the photographs of the Gori Temple in Tharparkar in Pakistan. I was never aware of its history, until I read about the 200th anniversay of Godiji Parshwant temple in Mumbai.

I have been able to locate Jain books that mention the ancient temple now in Pakistan. I have also been able to locate British accounts. A person had visited the temple when there was still some Jain population in Tharparkar region and some people who had seen the original image were still alive. I have been able to connect the accounts. Kindly visit.

Godiji

Kindly contribute to the article or safeguard it from improper changes.

Yashwant

Thank you for creating this article. I will definitely contribute to and safeguard this article. There are very few articles on Jain temples and tirthas. We need to create articles on atleast the important Jain temples and tirthas.--Aayush18 (talk) 22:13, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ayagapata article[edit]

Hey Aayush, Thanks for adding the Jainism category to Ayagapata. I have found a published research paper that talks about Ayagapatas in detail but can't find the time to add all the info. If you have Jstor access, and are interested in improving the article, I could guide you to it or email it to you. Let me know. Cheers! Noopur28 (talk) 17:41, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Noopur, thank you for creating the article. I actually have no clue about Jstor. But you should add the link to the research paper at Talk:Ayagapata, so that other editors, including me, have a chance to add the info whenever anyone gets time.--Aayush18 (talk) 08:32, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with many articles on art and crafts is that material is that not much info is available for free. Especially publications and resources are on places like JSTOR which require a subscription. While these are perfectly legitimate sources, you may not have access to them so putting a link on talk page won't work. That's why I offered to email it to you. I'll try and put it on scribd. Thanks :) Noopur28 (talk) 08:40, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Bhattaraka Dhavalakeerthi, Arahanthgiri Jain Math, Tamil Nadu, India.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bhattaraka Dhavalakeerthi, Arahanthgiri Jain Math, Tamil Nadu, India.gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 19:41, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

good faith sources and BLP[edit]

re your edit summary ...It is important to note that edits by other editors are always assumed to be in good faith & it may not always be possible to find sources. For perspective, the massive List of Hindus has just 4 refs. , WP:BLP takes precedence and when an editor is ignoring a notice that takes up half the page above the editing screen indicating that sources are required, there is not so much a need for assumption. If sources are NOT available, then BLP content should NOT be added to articles. And the fact that another BLP article is woefully under-referenced is not a reason to allow non-compliance with BLP in the List of Jains article. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:59, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jainism Lead[edit]

Hello! I think according to the Wikipedia Manual of style, the lead should be expanded to give an overview of the article. Also citations in the lead section are not that necessary. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Prabalsagar requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.

Nomination of JAINA for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article JAINA is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/JAINA until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Jethwarp (talk) 08:22, 18 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ayush ji, I have started the article Jain Center of Southern California based on your suggestion. It is based on newspaper reports and books. I hope to add to it during the next few months. You are invited to edit and add. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

I have observed the evolution of some of the newer Jain centers in USA. I think people involved in such projects will find the history of JCSC very interesting.

It was a key organization behind the formation of JAINA. It is going to celebrate its 25th anniversary soon.

Malaiya (talk)

Thank you creating this article! This article is very important when it comes to the history of Jainism in America. I will edit it to add in any information that might be needed. Please create other articles about Jainism outside of India and I will gladly assist you in that.--Aayush18 (talk) 23:28, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

VisualEditor[edit]

Thank you so much for trying out the new VisualEditor! The transition can be a little challenging to those of us who know something about Wiki markup already. :) If you insert some of the familiar Wikimarkup code (like [[]] or {{}}), the VisualEditor thinks you are trying to type these things and puts "<nowiki>" tags around it. To actually achieve the same effects, you just need to use the link, template and other icons in the VisualEditor itself. (For more detail, please see Wikipedia:VisualEditor/User guide and the Wikipedia:VisualEditor/FAQ.)

If you have feedback about your experience or encounter anything that looks like a bug, please let us know at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thanks! --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 14:41, 2 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ayush, you reverted an edit without attempting to provide new sources to the ones I've shown to be unreliable. I am reverting it. Feel free to provide new, reliable sources. Hi Aayush, Thanks very much for awarding the barnstar. But still a lot a work needs to be done on Jainism article. Unfortunately we have a very few dedicated editors devoted to improving Jainism articles. Indus Valley Civilization[edit]

Aayush18, it doesn't matter whether the material was there originally or not. When the quality of the sources are being questioned, then the material should be removed, discussed, and reinstated only after consensus. And, the material hasn't always been there - it was added by a now blocked editor back in June. I'm going to remove it again, please make your case for inclusion on the article talk page. Thanks. --regentspark (comment) 00:31, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If the quality of the sources is being questioned, it needs to be brought up on the talk page. Editors can't unilaterally delete stuff without reaching a consensus on the talk page. I'm not going to revert your changes as that would be edit warring. I've never seen stuff getting deleted and then talked about. It's always the other way round, you discuss, reach a consensus and then you delete/not delete.--Aayush18 (talk) 03:27, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Much better this way!--regentspark (comment) 11:32, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know that editors are free to go in and delete whatever they want! And then conveniently put the onus on other editors to restore the original info!--Aayush18 (talk) 14:40, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the see also edits for south east asia seem to have no basis in what See Also is about - as if a reader is reading about one religion - what is the point of the shopping basket? In the areas that I know more detail about, your edits could be seen to be either provocative or outright 'advertising' - but you should have a right of reply - why? why see also jainism where there is no actual historical, social or religious connection between the original subject and you added see also? satusuro 23:27, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jai Jinendra BOTFIGHTER, I did not email you. Wikipedia sends you an automated email whenever someone thanks you for an edit. I'm sure you can switch that off.--Aayush18 (talk) 23:56, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 10[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Jain Center of Greater Phoenix, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages East Valley and Adinath. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Jain temples in North America and Europe[edit]

Thanks for your suggestion. Perhaps I will start with Jain Center of New Jersey, since I was there recently.

Incidentally I am curious, where are you located?

Malaiya (talk) 01:21, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Malaiya. I live in Jersey City, NJ, but I haven't had a chance to visit Jain Center of New Jersey. I normally go to the Jain temple in Queens or the one in West New York, NJ.--Aayush18 (talk) 05:42, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, Aayush18. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
