Testing[edit]

Testing, testing 1, 2, 3! BonnieNoel (talk) 21:09, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I added College Dating to our article selection and I don't think the stub is due until September 19...I'm not completely sure though. BonnieNoel (talk) 21:09, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Boss, it's working. I just looked at the page for the assignment. We have to make an edit to any article and tell Piotr on his talk page. I think I might make a sandbox for the article to start the stub later today. AndrewMozdy (talk) 17:29, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll help as much as I can tonight but I have a night class and won't get home until around 11. Tomorrow I'll definitely be able to do more! Also, what kind of sources are we going to be able to use? I think our text book should have something in it--this could be our one book requirement--and then for some websites, what do you think we should look for? BonnieNoel (talk) 19:43, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That works out fine, since I have nothing tonight but a night class tomorrow. I'll go through the book, I might also look at some old textbooks. I know in social change, we talked a lot about dating, so there might be some sources I can get from there. Do you know what's up with your page yet? AndrewMozdy (talk) 19:49, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your first edits[edit]

Good job with your first edits, and I am glad to see you are discussing things on wiki. That's a good skill to have! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 22:11, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First deadline[edit]

Please note you should still leave a comment on an article's talk page. Let me know when you do so, and I'll treat it as an extra credit activity (it is too late for the assignment deadline). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 22:17, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, College dating[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, College dating. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Dating. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Dating - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. GILO   A&E 03:40, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for informing me about the nature of the article's content. I hadn't thought about the need for it to be distinct just yet. I created the article as part of an ongoing project for my Sociology of Marriage class, where we have to improve a sociology article to GA status. We had a deadline for tomorrow to have a stub up, so I didn't get all of the information on there that I wanted. In the coming week both myself and User: BonnieNoel are going to be adding to the article. I can assure you that as time goes on, the information presented in it will become more and more separate from Dating. I am going to contest the deletion, though. AndrewMozdy (talk) 04:14, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The article as it looked here is indeed redirectable to dating, as it does not even mention what makes college dating distinct from dating in general. Now, as we discussed, college dating is indeed a notable and separate topic, but you need to create a page that makes a case for college dating being something more than just a content fork of dating; in other words, as noted on our assignment, it needs to be a proper stub. Your layout was good, and the reference sound, the problem was that the content looked like a fork of dating. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 04:19, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As has been stated above, the article as it stood did not contain any content that separated it from dating in general; consequently I requested deletion of the article under CSD A10, as "A recently created article with no relevant page history that duplicates an existing English Wikipedia topic, and that does not expand upon, detail or improve information within any existing article(s) on the subject". Another user then created the redirect to dating; I did not do this as I felt that this was a slightly different topic. In order to stand up as a stub article, the specific details of college dating, as opposed to dating in general, would need to be brought out; reliable sources would also support this. Best wishes, GILO   A&E 04:39, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your cite[edit]

Good job. I've improved the edit to use a cite template, see this. You can do so automatically by using WP:REFLINKS page (this is optional, but you may find it useful). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 04:14, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article Stub[edit]

That's awesome! What angles do you think that we should go at? What do you think about these ideas? --What % relationships last --How many college relationships lead to marriage, etc --The differences between college dating and high school dating & college dating vs "adult" dating

Do you have any other ideas? BonnieNoel (talk) 04:14, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just got off work, I am available to work on it now. How do we make it distinct? Do you just mean add more information to it so it won't get deleted again? BonnieNoel (talk) 00:41, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. How much information do you think we should add? Should we just write a paragraph? I'll look into the articles you mentioned before, now! BonnieNoel (talk) 01:16, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I found an awesome article on JSTOR: "Dating Behaviors of University Students." I'm waiting for it to fully load to give me access since I'm off campus, but the first page looked like it had a lot of what we could use. BonnieNoel (talk) 01:29, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

For some reason, JSTOR won't grant me access. Would you mind going there and copying and pasting the article into an email so I can fully read it? I'm sorry...oh the joys of being a commuter student. And you should have asked for help! That sucks that it took that long. BonnieNoel (talk) 01:40, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just got the article, I am going to add a new section "distinctions between high school and college dating" and go into detail on how hook ups are more common than relationships with http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=105008712 as my source. Also, I'll add to the intro, and everything else looks great! I'll do some more research and send you any good sources I find that we can review and decide on what to use/what not to use. I'll post some more stuff to your wall tonight probably, but you don't have to worry about responding tonight we can just touch base in class tomorrow about any new details. You did a great job! BonnieNoel (talk) 03:21, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I added the section, used the article mentioned above, and I will add other items in later! It's just a rough draft, but I will definitely revise and add to it more. The only things that I changed was that the titles of articles in citations are supposed to be capitalized like titles traditionally are, not like how wikipedia does. I added the capitalization to your cite, but everything you wrote looks perfect. I didn't add anything to the intro yet just because I need to do more research. BonnieNoel (talk) 03:54, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To-do list[edit]

Hiya! I did a rough sketch of our to-do list on the article's talk page. If you want to change any of the articles I said you were writing, that is totally fine, I just randomly split them up. Also, if you have any other ideas, then that would be great! I just made a list during my psych class of a couple, so we can definitely add/delete them. Well, see you in thirty minutes! BonnieNoel (talk) 19:31, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To do for College dating[edit]

Good job guys, I've moved the article from your userpace back to College dating, where it should now survive without much trouble. Keep up the good work! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 19:18, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

While I don't believe your article will be deleted, I expect you'll take an active part in those discussions and improve the article by addressing the issues raised. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk to me 01:09, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Did You Know? Status[edit]

Let's try and achieve Did You Know? status. We have to make the article five times longer within five days. I suggest we store up our research and then add it in all at once so we can achieve getting it to the correct length in five days. We get five extra credit points and we will have the majority of the writing portion of the project done. What are your thoughts? BonnieNoel (talk) 16:37, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, we currently have ~2,700 characters. Therefore we need to get to at least 14,000 characters. I am also combining the two sections on hookups vs dating with distinctions from other types of dating. Shall we have today be "day one" of the five that we need to have, and we will be done expanding be Friday. BonnieNoel (talk) 17:02, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also, just to let you know, I don't think I am going to include a section for long distance relationships because you are going to mention it in the technology section. If you just want to throw in a sentence about how they prominent they are, I would really appreciate it! We have until the end of the day tomorrow as well to finish and nominate it. Thanks!! BonnieNoel (talk) 02:58, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It'll be more than that. I found a ton of stuff on LDR's, because I thought that was under tech. It's gonna take me all night to sift through the volume of articles I found. AndrewMozdy (talk) 03:28, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK! That sounds awesome. If you want me to add in the subsection, I can. And I added in blank subsections for your info--what do you think about the positioning? BonnieNoel (talk) 21:34, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I feel like Violence and Hooking up should have their own sections. I'm not sure where the hell lavaliering can go, but everything else looks good. I'm editing now. AndrewMozdy (talk) 22:03, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm about to go out--let me know what you think about changing the lay out. Thanks! BonnieNoel (talk) 22:25, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline[edit]

You need to have your portion of the article completely done with more references by Monday so we can format it for the following Monday's deadline. BonnieNoel (talk) 19:08, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, since the only section you have up is technology, we need another section on "professor-student" dating. Would you please add this? Thanks.BonnieNoel (talk) 00:16, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GA Nomination[edit]

Your section looks great! I just moved it under date rape so the intro goes in order of how the sections appear! BonnieNoel (talk) 15:31, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
