Reported you for Edit Warring[edit]

Since you have been redirecting CSK to Chennai Super Kings since February and long after a final warning, I have reported you for edit warring. [1]. Kcowolf (talk) 01:17, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are surely aware that a three-letter acronym like CSK could refer to more than one thing. I note that you have not attempted to redirect CSK since 19 March, but if you do so again, you may be blocked from editing. (Each time you restore the redirect, it obliterates the entry for a Japanese company which is also called CSK). The 3RR case mentioned above explains the problem with your editing. You may reply to the 3RR complaint if you wish. I notice that you never participate on Talk pages, which is a problem if you ever intend to make any controversial edits. EdJohnston (talk) 20:45, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And please stop adding your personal commentary to articles. Wikipedia is NOT a blog by fans, it is an encyclopaedia. If you have don't know what's acceptable, please read the policies listed in the welcome message above and then contribute. If you continue adding your personal commentary, you may be blocked. —SpacemanSpiff 04:14, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See my response at User talk:EdJohnston. Per my earlier warning (see above), I expect to see you participate on relevant talk pages before continuing to alter the CSK disambiguation. You are changing articles unilaterally without ever participating on their talk pages. By its mere existence, an Indian sports team does not automatically become the most important use of the term 'CSK.' EdJohnston (talk) 12:16, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the "CSK" article to CSK Holdings Corporation and made CSK redirect to CSK (disambiguation). From what you said on the talk page, it sounds like this is what you intended. Please let me know if this is okay.

As a procedural note, as part of this change, I tagged CSK Group for speedy deletion as a copy-and-paste move; moving the former "CSK" article to the new name is more correct because the history of its content needs to remain intact. Kcowolf (talk) 01:40, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(Reply from my talk page) No problem. A big thing to remember is to always be willing to discuss changes. If you're thinking about making a major change to an article, try to start a conversation on the article's talk page and give other people a few days to respond BEFORE you make the change. Even if no one responds after a few days, you've shown that you tried discussing your change before you made it. If someone reverts your change, don't make it again without discussing it and getting consensus first. You can also ask someone for help before you make a change -- I'd recommend you do this since you've gotten warnings due to some of your recent edits. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page to let me know what kind of change you're thinking about making, and I can try to point you in the right direction of how to do it. You can also post your question at WP:HELPDESK, since a lot more people watch that page. Kcowolf (talk) 05:24, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may be blocked if you continue to over-write disambiguation pages[edit]

I have undone your recent edits which obliterated the IPL page, which was serving as a disambiguation for all the different meanings of IPL. Do not restore the redirect or you may be blocked. You've had sufficient warnings. By now you must be aware that you need consensus to make these changes. See WP:COMPETENCE if you have a problem understanding what function these pages serve. EdJohnston (talk) 02:25, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 05:01, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Image Setback[edit]

Thank You for you have informed me that I am prone to be reported for spamming, as I myself don't know about it. I would be pleased if you can refer the list. Coming to the point, I have, for instance, not removed the image of Mumbai CST. I don't know how you have thought that I have replaced it!!!! Please see:Revision as of 17:55, 16 June 2010 of the article. If Secundrabad Junction has been already compiled at the Railways in India page, it doesn't mean that it can't be added to any other articles! And for your kind information, even Secunderabad is a historic station, though the concept of being historic is not under consideration (I don't know what you wanted to say). And moreover, I have always not replaced the image of Chennai Central. The first time 'you' replaced the secunderabad station's image with the chennai central's one. But then also I have added the secunderabad image below the chennai's. But I don't know what you have seen and where you have seen, you say that I replaced it. Each time I add it below the chennai central station's image, every time you used to remove it. For example, see:Revision as of 13:07, 11 December 2009, which is one of your edits. I don't know in what sense you say so!!!!!!! At last I got vexed and out of it I have started replacing Chennai Central with Secunderabad Station. For instance, 'I' should be the one, due to complain on you. And I did not understand what you meant to say in, 'Instead you may add a new file in a newer category'????? And who are the others who, you meant, to have been noticing my activities?????? And please think before you add a comment. --SharadbobTalkC 14:44, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see that no one except User:Coolgirl194, no one else has removed the Secunderabad Station's image. Even that too, this user replaced a much of the content of the category and filled it with some non-constructive stuff (see:Revision as of 01:09, 4 March 2010 of the article) for which she was said not to do so also (see:User talk:Coolgirl194). You cannot say that someone else has done it. For instance, you have let alone Secunderabad station's image only once and the rest of your edits, are known to me, that you have removed it. Click here. It is your first edit in which you have replaced Secunderabad station's image with some unknown image, even though there is Chennai central's image in the article?????Why??? and Click here. Here, you have again removed that unknown *picture* and I don't know for what you have done it. Don't blame others for what you have done. You have removed it 4 times till now. See:Revision history of Train station for reference. And moreover, it is not like an advertisement!!! According to Wikipedia, external links or articles of any products, produced privately are not allowed. Secunderabad Railway Station is a public property and a railway station which was constructed 135 years ago. I am not giving an advertisement!!! I wanted all to make aware about the station an so I added it. Inserting any pictures of Wikipedia, in any page of Wikipedia doesn't come under advertisement. I think you misunderstood it. I don't know what you meant by 'misuse'. There cannot be any misuse. See the the image page where it is clear that permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify the document under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2. There is no question of misuse. And, as far as I have observed, no one, whom you referred to as others who has started noticing my activities. No one!!! You might have thought that there were three Indian train stations in a global article. However, you can see that there are 4 UK train station articles in the global article, 3 French train station articles in the global article, 3 Swiss train station articles in the global article, Train Station. However, Indian Railways is the single largest rail system in the world. It doesn't matter about having 3 Indian rail station articles in the article. --SharadbobTalkC 13:47, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:CSKdg.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:CSKdg.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:57, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:CSKdg.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:CSKdg.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 16:33, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Logos and Twenty20[edit]

I've again removed the logos from this article. Both logos lacked a rationale for use on this article, which is a requirement per WP:NFCC #10c. More importantly, both of these uses are decorative in nature and fail WP:NFCC #8. The logos are extant on article about those organizations, where it is appropriate. They are not appropriate on this article. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 14:06, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • And yet again you add the logo. As has been explained to you before, this is not acceptable use. There is no rationale for that logo's use in this article, which is a blatant fail of WP:NFCC #10c, and there can not be a reasonable rationale for use in this article. I've removed it again. STOP restoring this logo to this article. --Hammersoft (talk) 13:36, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Overwriting DAB pages[edit]

See my previous warning to you at User talk:A.arvind.arasu#You may be blocked if you continue to over-write disambiguation pages. I see you have done this yet again at IPL. Have you held any further discussions to see if other editors agree with you? If not, I'm urging you to undo your own edit at IPL. Failing that, you may be blocked for disruption. EdJohnston (talk) 17:04, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on CyberVale requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. katherine_a (talk) 03:03, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

July 2010[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with CyberVale. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. katherine_a (talk) 03:09, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Chennai_New_international_terminal.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Chennai_New_international_terminal.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:58, 31 July 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 21:58, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AN/I notice[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. See this section. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:27, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

November 2010[edit]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for persistent copyright infringement. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Elen of the Roads (talk) 17:16, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You will need to show that you understand copyright before you have any chance of being unblocked. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 17:18, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • To piggy back on Elen's comments, please note that "indefinite" does not mean permanent. You can appeal your block here. I would caution you however to think long and hard about why you have been blocked, yet again, for persistent copyright infringement. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and you have persistently and routinely violated copyright, even after serving a one month block for violating copyright before. This is intolerable, and can not be allowed to continue. Since a one month block was not enough to convince you to halt this behavior, you are going to have to demonstrate considerably greater understanding of copyright, your role in violating such law, and your abject willingness to abide by our policies on this issue if you are ever to become unblocked again. Repeating your prior unblock request is not likely to be successful. There needs to be a demonstrated clearer understanding that you can't simply take something from the Internet and claim it is yours. That is theft. If you do manage to get unblocked, I dare say the next time you violate copyright will be your last here on Wikipedia. This is very serious. You need to treat this issue with serious respect. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:29, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cant agree more with User:Hammersoft on the WP:COPYVIO you have been doing. I still assume you could be a great editor if you understand things.I would be happy to explain you in person about policies, do's and dont's if you turn up to WP:MCH2. WP:INDIA needs more editors and you seem to have the interest, loosing an enthusiast editors because you dont have understood the policies is a bad thing.
Hammersoft, From the interaction i had with him about WP:MCH2, i understood he is a 15 year old. Probably its time for simplifying policies for kids :) (justsaying) Srikanth (Logic) 17:41, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • On Wikipedia:Upload, there is a link labeled "image from a website". Click on it, and you see a great big red X that says in bold "The vast majority of images on the internet are not appropriate for Wikipedia." It doesn't get much clearer than that. The fact that this editor uploaded copyrighted images AFTER being blocked for doing so for a month shows to me willful intent to violate our policies. If it wasn't willful intent, then it is an abject failure of Wikipedia:Competence is required. Maybe he thought he wouldn't get caught, I don't know. Regardless, it MUST stop. --Hammersoft (talk) 17:47, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I accept guilty that i have done something wrong. But after my ban for a month,i had tried to understand the policies regarding the copyrights of images.I had uploaded the file Hpca.jpg from another site as to expand a stub and i was not aware that this would infringe with the policy guidelines specified.I had only done that to improve a stub. But after my warning i think i've thoroughly gone through the guidelines specified and now i ahve come to understand how signifiacant copyright is in wikipedia.I think you can put me under scanner from this day and check on all activities i do.i sincerely promise that i would learn to be a better wikipedian by all means.i have been taking such cautions seriously and im open to suggestions.I've been a bit slow in learning the terms and conditions and i would do better on taht front if another chance was given to me.Please realise my enthusiasm and interest in wikipedia by my useful contributions to various articles.I plead guilty and seek another oppurtunity to prove myself. Another reason i'd wish to include in my appeal is that the only charges against me is of uploading unauthorised images.I think I have no other charges on me.So, i appeal for minmizing my block to an extent that i get another chance to prove myself.

Decline reason:

You have been given multiple chances to understand copyright, and why uploading an image from another source is inappropriate. You have returned to putting the project at risk due to copyright violations. You will get another chance - once you have taken the time to read and understand copyright rules, and understand why they put the project at risk (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 11:39, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

With Remorse - --A.arvind.arasu (talk) 10:01, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arvind, there's no 'only' about uploading copyright violations. It is an extremely serious business, as it is one of the things that the Wikimedia Foundation can get sued over. If we rip off other people's images and put them on our site, that is the same legally as if we stole their car. Do you see that? You have been uploading images and saying that you are the author when you know full well that you are not. Do you understand that?

You can learn more about copyright while you are blocked. Ask any questions that you like - myself or the editors above will give you the answers. When you have learned, then you should be able to make a successful request for unblock. Elen of the Roads (talk) 11:22, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arvind, you were blocked for copyright violations. But, that is not the only thing you have been doing wrong. In this section above, you are shown to have continued a slow edit war to push the logo of your favorite team onto the Twenty20 article. In so doing, you violated WP:NFCC #10c at a minimum. I've previously explained to you why that logo is not acceptable on that article, but you continue to push the issue and in so doing violate our non-free content policy. If you're not willing to edit in accordance with policy here, you're not going to get unblocked. I also concur with Elen above in that "only" being "charged" is a gross misunderstanding of the seriousness of what you have done. There are still multiple image uploads of yours whose provenance I can not ascertain. For example, File:Csk_clt20.jpg. I'm quite certain (and with your many copyright violations we're past assuming good faith at this point) that this image has been taken from a web site somewhere as well, though extensive searching has not revealed exactly where. How many more of your images are stolen from a web site somewhere and wrongfully claimed as yours? As is, of your image uploads that are marked as belong to you, only 1 out of 10 have any meta data associated with them, strongly suggesting that the other 9 were taken from a web site somewhere. That one image is File:Veeranam.jpg, most likely taken with your Nokia N72 phone. I can believe that. The others, most likely stolen. But forcing us to do this work to verify the origin of your images is wrong. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:17, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, i have understood what you are trying to convey Elen and hammersoft.Yes the File Csk_clt20 is another file i have taken from a private site.Is there anyway to minimize the punishment on my part at the moment.I had not learnt much after that ban but ever since i was warned with the File:Hpca venue.jpg, i had thoroughly learnt the seriousness of the mistake i'd committed.Yes again i have to accept that i was in edit conflict with Hammersoft as to promote the side. But i have done it so just to create more awareness about the leading side of the format. Is there any way i can help to remove those images and start a fresher life in wikipedia? --A.arvind.arasu (talk) 14:53, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Remaining questionable images[edit]

Arvind, we'd like clarification on the source of the following images. This is your opportunity to 'come clean'. If you did not personally take these images using your own camera or phone, then please be clear about that right now, and indicate precisely where you got them from. If you do not remember where you got them, that's fine, just tell us. Coming clean about this isn't going to cause your block to be extended. In fact, it will likely be a strong mitigating factor in favor of you being allowed to edit again. Please note that none of these images have meta data associated with them.

--Hammersoft (talk) 15:00, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes,id like to clean up the mess, never mind my block getting extended. Also i have to confess that i had been fiddling with disambiguation page a long time back but later on i came to understand what i was doing after a user adviced me and ever since had tried to be more careful.Another area i have been stupid was at the Twenty20 article where i ignored the warnings of the other editors for a period of time.Im linking up the sources of the images i have borrowed from other sites without the mention of copyright. But two of them are from community-network sites.

The file File:Nmrffgg.jpg and File:Mtc volvo.jpg are my personal photos.I acnnot remember the source of the file File:Subwaychennai.jpg.Again i cannot properly recall whether i have taken File:Mcdonaldsdriveinnchennai.jpg through my mobile or from a site.

--A.arvind.arasu (talk) 15:15, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've marked the four you noted the actual source for as speedy deletion under WP:CSD#F9. I've marked the two you are uncertain as to the source for speedy deletion, but generically and referenced this discussion. The other two I've left untouched and assumed some good faith on your part. Thank you for clarifying this matter. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:24, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Stories Project[edit]

Hello,

My name is Victor Grigas, and I'm a storyteller at the Wikimedia foundation. We're telling stories of Wikipedia users, editors, donors, programmers and staff to paint a picture of who uses Wikipedia - for the 2011 fundraiser.

I am in the process of planning a trip to India to gather stories from Indian Wikipedians in face-to-face interviews (possibly on video).

My primary goal is to conduct 15-20 interviews, and hopefully enough of my interviews will make compelling stories that will effectively solicit donations from the public. These stories may also be used for other communication purposes by the foundation.

I found your userpage on a list of prolific Wikipedians and thought I’d reach out to you. Prolific editing is always a good story to tell!

If you are interested in participating, please contact me via my email:

vgrigas@wikimedia.org

Thank you for your time!

Victor

About me: I have been a Wikipedia editor since 2005, and have a background in film, video and audio. My userpage can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Victorgrigas

Request reason:

I give my assurances that for whatever reasons i have been blocked for, will not let it happen again, i have tried hard to understand the principles of the site all this time, and i have matured a great deal, hope i get a chance again to contribute.

Decline reason:

You have been using sockpuppets to do the same copyvio uploads, you clearly don't understand policies, so I'm declining this and blocking your sock account. —SpacemanSpiff 11:59, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

So please explain in detail what was wrong with your actions and how are you going to avoid it in the future. Max Semenik (talk) 10:00, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
2 years back when i was young to wikipedia(14 years of age), i went on adding images for improving articles from sources not of my own, many times it was reverted and i was warned for that, but i couldnt exactly understand the terms and conditions followed here, and only in this time of ban(working with another user), i had got to fully see through your procedures in file uploading, edit warring etc.

I have never once, contributed to vandalism, i seek the chance to edit freely again with people monitoring my initial progress, though i thoroughly assure you of no such incidents in future. At least you can let me edit by just eliminating my rights to upload for a short time to prove my rehabilitation.Thank you.

Are you connected to Taxiboy277? —SpacemanSpiff 10:16, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it belonged to my brother once.you can very well see how my contribs have improved from there.

Ok, just for clarity: After you were blocked on this account, you have made "good" contributions using that account and we should check that account to see if your contributions have improved? —SpacemanSpiff 11:30, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes please do so.I have contributed less frequently but stopped violating the rules altogether for over a year.Even if you can find a case over there, you may still give me a chance on this acc to prove my worth.

Admins please take note of this, i sincerely own up my faults and assure you of not repeating them. For further vigilance, i request an admin/senior user to specify me a task sheet with guidelines that i may have to follow in order to be able to convince one of you.Thank You.
