Edit summaries[edit]

Hello 27Roses, when reverting my edit on Eat-the-World -or any other edit in general- please provide an edit summary for such edits. The addition of detailed business information like the extensive listing of schedules, locations and offices is against WP:DIRECTORY. Please also see WP:COI, in case it applies. Thank you. Hi GermanJoe, thank you for your help in improving my article! To clarify, there is no WP:COI in my creation or edits of the Eat-the-World article (or any other article I have edited, for that matter); I believe in full disclosure and transparency in these cases and as a result, all of my work on Wikipedia reflects my personal interests and hobbies.

Concerning the chart I had originally included under Culinary city tours, I saw no violation of WP:DIRECTORY as the entries were all wikilinks or interwiki links to descriptions of German cities and neighborhoods, rather than promotional external links to the company's website advertising the specific tours. I did not see anything in the description of WP:DIRECTORY which would prohibit this; can you please clarify this for me? I would like to keep a chart in the article, so can you please advise me on how to go about doing this?

Finally, concerning my reversal of your edit (which deleted the chart), I altered the text of the paragraph preceding the chart to reflect my changes (i.e. I re-added the chart and deleted the sentence where the number of cities and tours was listed as you said this information and the chart information were repetitive and only one should be used). I provided an edit summary for this revision and thought that this one summary was applicable and sufficient for both of my edits (the reversal of your edit and my edit which reflected your stipulation), however I can see the confusion this may have caused and will be sure to be individually summarize each edit despite its correlations in the future. Again, thanks for your help with the article and I’d appreciate your advice on the chart matter! 27Roses (talk) 07:44, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the detailed additional information. Point 4 of WP:NOTDIRECTORY mentions such business listings in general. To give you a better example: imagine we would try to include a list of all target locations for large worldwide-operating travel agencies or a list of all offices for large retailers, such lists would be very long and offer almost no encyclopedic information (as an aside, such lists are generally hard to maintain and become outdated very quickly). The article should better focus on an encyclopedic summary of the company and a general overview of its activities. As an alternative suggestion instead of the list: maybe add more details about the tours themselves. The section "Company overview" already contains a good overview of the concept, but it is a bit on the "theoretical" side and describes the concept mostly from the company's own view. It would be good to have a few more practical details about those tours from newspaper and magazine reports, or observations from visitors - what they specifically liked or disliked about the concept. Hope those thoughts and ideas are helpful - while we may disagree about the list, I found the article and especially the tour concept interesting to read and informative. Thanks for the clarification & helpful tips! I see what you mean about the list- it could be a hassle to maintain. I'll look into adding more information and sources as per your advice about the current article, and I'm also hoping to create the German article sometime in the near future, so maybe you could have a look afterwards and tell me what you think. 27Roses (talk) 14:59, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately it looks like the German version was deleted. I know almost nothing about the specific German Wiki-guidelines, so won't be of much help there - but of course you can always contact the involved de-Wiki admins and ask for clarification of the decision. Best regards. GermanJoe (talk) 14:48, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
