Burmese Malaysians, Bangladeshi Malaysians, list so on[edit]

Let me ask you why 2010 census counts 271,899 non-Malaysian citizens as part of the Malaysian population. Why does the Malaysian population do not excluding people who reside in Malaysia more than six months but being a permanent residents, temporary residents, illegal workers, refugees, prisoners, aliens, and any kinds of non-citizens. If we just only count Malaysian citizens as Malaysian, how about Malaysian citizens who study abroad, work abroad or live abroad. Do the Malaysian diasporas who leave Malaysia for more than six months are prohibited to identify themselves as Malaysians and being excluded from the census?? Various schools[edit]

Ah... I was basing it on what was said before the latest edits came in which clarified what it actually meant (the person who edited before wrote it in broken English, and that made me think a "various school" actually was a Mindan school). Thank you for the clarification! WhisperToMe (talk) 15:08, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the Japan Times did a good job defining what a "miscellaneous school" was. Thank you so much for correcting the errors in the content! WhisperToMe (talk) 09:03, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Byun Jang-ho[edit]

Hi

Can you help?

I am creating a page for director Byun Jang-ho. The kowiki (https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EB%B3%80%EC%9E%A5%ED%98%B8) states a different birth date from KOFIC (url=http://www.koreanfilm.or.kr/jsp/films/index/peopleView.jsp?peopleCd=10031373) and Hancinema (Byun Jang-ho at HanCinema).

Which date should I use? Can you read the naver website (url=http://movie.naver.com/movie/bi/pi/basic.nhn?code=1812) and tell me what they said about the 1935 date?

Thanks.Jjaey (talk) 02:23, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects that have only been around a short while[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you work with redirects and also helped in the creation of Jiyangsan. I have never been involved in the AfD process and I am looking for your advice or opinion. There are two redirects to this new article that have only existed for a few days:

  • Jihyangmountaininfo, which is the original name that the article was created with and it clearly has little value
  • Mount Jiyang, which is a potentially valuable alternative name

Wouldn't it make sense to delete the first, and maybe even the second? My Gussie (talk) 00:36, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@My Gussie: I think Mount Jiyang is probably worth keeping since someone who doesn't know the naming convention (like me until yesterday - thanks for fixing the title) might look for it under that title. On the other hand, Jihyangmountaininfo is clearly a useless redirect which no one will ever use, but it doesn't qualify for WP:CSD#R3 speedy deletion because it was left behind after a move. So you'd have to nominate it through the regular WP:RFD process; seems to me it qualifies for regular non-speedy redirect deletion as WP:R#D5, "the redirect makes no sense". 210.6.254.106 (talk) 04:41, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hokkien as an immigrant language of Madagascar[edit]

Thank you for your concern. I added Hokkien as a language spoken by Madagascar Chinese due to two sources, though indeed neither of them may be concrete cited evidence. The first came from the Hoklo page here on Wikipedia, which indicated Min-speaking people were a significant group among ethnic Sinoa in Madagascar (this is not cited however). The second, and perhaps more useful source, was from time I personally spent in Madagascar. I had some interactions with the Chinese community there, albeit not very much. Cantonese seemed to be the dominant variety when I was there, but Hokkien was not uncommon either. There exists a sizable community of people from Indonesia and Malaysia, most of which are ethnically Chinese; these people mainly spoke Hokkien and similar dialects. I imagine those who historically came directly from China speak mainly Cantonese, and newer emigrants speak Mandarin.

Of course, this is only a minor detail in the greater picture. I just thought it might be beneficial to add. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nzo9 (talkcontribs) 15:45, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Dl2000. An edit that you recently made to Teoh Chye Hin seemed to be a test and has been removed. If you want more practice editing, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Dl2000 (talk) 17:43, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Teoh Chye Hin, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Dl2000 (talk) 17:43, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Dl2000: Sorry, I accidentally reverted to an old version of the page while making those edits (hence the {{EngvarB}} tag and categories disappeared). However, the Manual of Style (MOS:SURNAME) is quite clear: After the initial mention of any name, the person should generally be referred to by surname only, without an honorific prefix such as "Mx", "Mr", "Mrs", "Miss", or "Ms", or by a pronoun. So I am undoing the part of your edits which refer to Teoh as "Datuk" (an honorific) or as "Hin" (the second syllable of his given name). Also, one warning template per edit is sufficient. Regards. 210.6.254.106 (talk) 01:43, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Pu (Chinese surname). Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism can result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. Donner60 (talk) 02:51, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

@Donner60: that was not remotely vandalism. I added people with a given Chinese surname to a surname page. Kindly read the diff instead of making incorrect assumptions based on the spelling? 210.6.254.106 (talk) 02:52, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am striking my message because it appears to have been an error based on the spelling. Donner60 (talk) 03:04, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Mongolian studies[edit]

On 4 November 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mongolian studies, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that scholars in the field of Mongolian studies are often referred to as Mongolists? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mongolian studies. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Mongolian studies), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
