Ways to improve Gerald Walenn[edit]

Hi, I'm I dream of horses. 20th c violin concerto, thanks for creating Gerald Walenn!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Please add categories. Thanks.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. I dream of horses If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{Ping|I dream of horses}} to your message. • Hi, I dream of horses! I hope I answer this correctly, I am not familiar with this editing yet. I checked the Gerlad Walenn and Bruce Steane websites and made some changes to the references. I hope that is now fine, otherwise I do not understand what "linkrot" (or was it "rotlink") is. In that case please tell me what I have to do. One other question: I already made an article 3 weeks ago as an unregistered user, when I now wanted to do the same it was not possible and so I created an account. So my first "unregistered" article still exists only as a draft, but my articles from yesterday and today are already online. How can I bring my first article online as well? It is the one "Draft:Phyllis_Gummer"? Thanks and best wishes, Tobias @I dream of horses:

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Phyllis Gummer, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.tobias-broeker.de/rare-manuscripts/phyllis-gummer-archive/.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

Reply[edit]

Hi, thanks for message. It's not quite as simple as that.

The articles were copyright violations. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. The copied site was marked © Tobias Broeker . We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial, but there is no indication that the copied site allows free use. Text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here, or you could simply relabel your site as explicitly public domain for anyone to use. Please note that just asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient, since it contradicts what the website says. We often restore deleted text on request, but for legal reasons we don't do so for copyright violations.

Another problem is that you did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that your musicians meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to you, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what you claim. Your own website is clearly not an independent third-party source, and in the absence of any indication of where you got your information from, it looks like original research, whereas we need published sources.

I realise that you are acting in good faith, and these musicians may well be notable, but effectively you will have to either write non-copyright text (not just a close paraphrase) or release your website text as PD or CC BY-SA 3.0 licensed so we can use it here, and find published sources for the facts independent of you.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ben Weber (composer), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Robert Shaw (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello 20th c violin concerto,

AfD question[edit]

Hi, I notice that you've nominated several articles for deletion via the AfD process, but there seems to be something wrong with the way that's done — are you following the instructions at WP:AFDHOWTO exactly?

A second, related question: why are you nominating articles you've created yourself? No reason why you can't; I just don't see why you'd want to? --DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:01, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Its a bit odd, since they didn't include the fact of their being the author while nominating the article, that is done in such cases normally. ☆★Mamushir (✉✉) 21:26, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Third opinion request[edit]

Hi 20th c violin concerto, and thank you for seeking out a third opinion. I am declining your request because:

  • There has been no talk page discussion of the issues. The third opinion page guidelines say: "Before making a request here, be sure that the issue has been thoroughly discussed on the article talk page. 3O is only for assistance in resolving disagreements that have come to a standstill."
  • The third opinion page exists to resolve content disputes. Your request seemed mainly to be a complaint about conduct. You may want to read WP:CONDUCTDISPUTE for advice on next steps.

How and where do I "address the concerns around WP:COI and WP:SPAM"?? 17:40, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Read WP:COI and WP:SPAM and, right here, explain how you do or do not have a conflict of interest, and, perhaps more importantly, show your understanding of why the dozens of links to that archive you've been inserting were treated as WP:SPAM. Really, it didn't matter what the links were -- that specific behavior, repeated insertion of links to an external website, would have triggered a block pretty much automatically. Almost all the time, such insertions are attempts to spam Wikipedia, so all sorts of alarms go off. Another thing that might set of alarms is that your handle is "20th c violin concerto", and the page title on the site you've linked to is "20th c violin concertante", so an observer might wonder if there is indeed a WP:COI here. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 18:42, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your answer and the hints. Indeed I am the owner of that website and the links refer to my work. Is that not allowed? If the Library of Congress make a publication and update their Wiki-entry themselves - is that spam too? The thing is that all musicians that would like to perform unpublished music by Carlos Veerhoff, Jacques Chailley, Claude Pascal or Jan Broekhuis (all composer with a Wiki entry) need to contact me because I own all to very much of the musical autographs of these composers. Therefore I thought and still think that this information is of importance for a Wikipedia entry (like there are similar references to such archives at National Libraries). Of course I can ask someone else to put that information into Wiki, but how absurd is that? Then I can make it myself as well. And so I did. The problem is that some Wiki guy here has to take a few minutes more to check the situation and some sort of knowledge about classical music would be of help. Just doing what you described: Check 20 seconds my entries, my name and website title and then block me all the way - that behaviour does not satisfy the situation in my opinion. 20th c violin concerto (talk) 19:29, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would just like to point out that promoting your own website, not just by posting links to it, but by saying things like "Scores of both Violin concertos, the Concerto grosso and the Symphonic Rhapsody are freely accessible via the publication project of Tobias Bröker", was not the only disruption you engaged in. You edit-warred with another user when they removed your spam links. You filed a bogus report against the other user at WP:ANEW. You filed for a WP:3O not because you wanted to resolve a content dispute but because you again wanted to complain about the other user; the request was declined. You removed CSD tags for articles you had created. You created an autobiography, Tobias Broeker. Spam may be a major component of the block, but it's not the only one.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:51, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If my website and the information on it is not good enough for Wikipedia, then I would like to have "my information" removed from all the Wikipedia articles. For example the Jan Broekhuis article has a worklist - where is the reference to this? The information seems to be good enough for the article but not a reference to my wwebsite (where I did all the work to create a worklist of Jan Broekhuis). So to complete your disliking of my activities I would prefer to delete such information as well. Or on the other hand if the information is good, the reference to the source of that information (my website) must be included. And in that case the reference I placed was fine. I assume you stand on your point, therefore how can unreferenced information that is my intellectual property be removed from the Wiki pages? 20th c violin concerto (talk) 20:04, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You might wish to read WP:TOS; you give up a lot of "rights" when you edit Wikipedia. That said, what you're saying demonstrates your lack of knowledge about how Wikipedia works and confirms that a major purpose of your edits is to promote yourself and your work. In the case of the Broekhuis article, the list of his works is unsourced. It may in fact be removed because it is unsourced, but the fact that you "know" it to be true because of your own research is irrelevant; it is called WP:OR. In addition, the inclusion of that material does not violate any so-called intellectual property rights you have. I may not respond anymore to your comments as they just validate the correctness of the block.--Bbb23 (talk) 20:23, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jan Broekhuis moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Jan Broekhuis, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Onel5969 TT me 15:50, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Let me explain you the problem here: I am the holder of the main archive of the composer Jan Broekhuis. That includes not only the music manuscripts, but also private letters and photos, his old passports, tax statements, etc. And I published all the information in a finding aid on my website and also published several of the previously unpublished compositions by Jan Broekhuis on my website. All information and all scores are available for free (and my website is also ad-free, so a non-profit project). Therefore I placed references to information in the article that led to my website, but the problem is that I am a private person. Therefore some guys here saw my activity as self-promotion. I can understand why they thought this way, but how will someone make references about Jan Broekhuis without refering to the main archive? So I thought this was a big misunderstanding and re-did my "self-promotion". That ended in my ban of editing. So if you wish to improve the article and make references you have to do it on your own. Maybe you find my website useful for making references: https://www.tobias-broeker.de/rare-manuscripts/a-f/broekhuis-jan/ Best wishes! 20th c violin concerto (talk) 08:27, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I was blocked in 2021 for placing links on composer's articles to my website. I am doing this because I am a preserver of many musical estates of composers. And I put such links into the Wikipedia articles of composers of which I own large parts of their musical estate. This is similar to let the Library of Congress put a link to themselves because they own the estate of XY - which should be OK I assume. I do own such estates for composers like Henri Martelli, Jacques Chailley, Carlos Veerhoff, Jan Broekhuis and some others. After being blocked nearly 2 years ago another user improved the article of one of these composers. That was the article of Jan Broekhuis. Due to the fact that I own the complete estate of Jan Broekhuis it was necessary for this user to give references to my website - because there is no other serious source! Not the Dutch National Library holds this estate but me. So a reference to my website is necessary because I provide specific information other sources cannot give. I understand that self-promotion is banned here, but do I really have to wait for a bloke who puts the links to my website into Wikipedia and that I cannot do it myself? 20th c violin concerto (talk) 21:12, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Wikipedia is here to be an encyclopedia, not to advertise a user's website for their profit. Furthermore, adding links to your website is against Wikipedia's WP:COI policy, so this would need to be addressed in your unblock request. In your unblock request, you will need to demonstrate that you understand what you were blocked, describe how you will avoid this mistake in the future, and outline what kinds of edits you will make to articles should you be unblocked.
