Regarding your edits to Garcia House[edit]

Howdy! I just wanted to bring to your attention that not all of your copyedits to the page Garcia House (Los Angeles, California) actually improve upon the existing sentence structure or grammar, and in some cases they may even leave the sentence a bit clunkier than it already was. I genuinely trust that these edits were made in good faith, and your account looks pretty new, so I just wanted to leave you a little note to let you know that, in general, copyedits shouldn't be made in cases where no confusion or error really occurs. For example:

  • You changed "The house was in the film...as well as in a 2011 commercial," to "The house was in the film...and in a 2011 commercial." While this edit did not result in an error, per se, it also didn't correct one, and it also just sounds a little clunkier when read back. In such circumstances, it's best to just leave the sentence as it stands. (Similar edits include "Located on Mulholland Drive," -> "On Mulholland Drive," and "...has been described," -> "...is described[.]")
  • You also hyphenated the term "stained glass", which actually did result in a grammatical error. It's a fairly common mistake to make (I, too, think many terms that aren't/shouldn't be hyphenated are), but there's no grammatical reason why "stained glass" needs to be hyphenated, and this is backed up by its own article.

I appreciate your efforts to try to make Wikipedia better for all users. I hope these few notes will help. I also did want to make it clear which edits you got spot-on, because I don't want to bite the newcomer by only pointing out their mistakes:

  • You removed the qualifying adjective "colored" from the phrase "colored stained glass", which is totally justified! "Stained glass" implies a that ordinary glass (colorless) has been given color, so that adjective was redundant.
  • The change of "The Garcia house ... is a home designed by architect John Lautner," to "Designed by John Lautner, the Garcia house ..." would be great if it weren't the opening line of the article. That format is generally best suited for a subsection in the article. So, while it doesn't work great in this circumstance, you should know that it's a good edit to make in a lot of circumstances.

Best of luck going forward, and happy editing! Crossark (talk) 23:15, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Rubbish computer. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Republic of Hawaii ‎ seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Rubbish computer (Talk: Contribs) 23:24, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Your edits may be in good faith, but you appear to be engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
