Talkheader

Could you please stop adding {{Talkheader}} indiscriminately to article talk pages? As the template instructions say, "Using the template is suggested for talk pages that are very active or have had policy violation problems. This template should be used only when needed." For talk pages that don't have any problems, it's just clutter. Thanks, Pagrashtak 18:06, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:GTAIV-trailer3.png

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:GTAIV-trailer3.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 21:22, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Anti-image trolls

There's really nothing we can do about those that remove images from pages. They are backed up by policy (which was written by their fellow anti-image trolls) and if it gets reported to the admins noticeboard, they will always be backed up. -- Scorpion0422 19:19, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Fair use images

I wanted to touch on a position you maintain, that of "I still think we should have a few images to illustrate at least the VERY main characters". We've come across this before, and had trouble achieving consensus on it because it is a very subjective subject, and because it leads to hopeless arguing over which characters are important or not. Further, once a debate dies down people then let the article slide further and further into having too many images again. It's a nightmare to manage.

The position being offered does away with that. It draws a clear line for people to understand. If a character is important enough for their own article, an image can appear on that article. The character list article remains clean of the images, except perhaps one or two group character images. That's an easy metric for people to follow, and dramatically reduces arguments.

An issue Wikipedia regularly faces is the ease with which thing X can be maintained. Everyone here is a volunteer. If we have processes that are difficult to manage, the process will fail because nobody is required to do thing X. The easier we make it to adhere to policies, the easier it is to maintain the project. The more complex, the more likely it is that serious problems are going to arise. --Hammersoft (talk) 21:47, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Let's work with an example. List of gangs in the Grand Theft Auto currently has 27 fair use images on it. What images do you think, in the effort to reduce the number of images, should be removed and why should they be removed and not the remaining few? Do you think it likely the vast majority of editors would agree with your rationale for that decision? What do you think the likelihood is that after that decision is made, the article will slowly creep to include more fair use images again? Where can you clearly and distinctly draw a line? --Hammersoft (talk) 18:16, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:GTAIV characters Elizabeta.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:GTAIV characters Elizabeta.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:41, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Niko Bellic merge

Regarding your reversal of the merge of Niko Bellic ([1]), I have started a discussion for the merge at Talk:List of characters in Grand Theft Auto IV#Merge Niko Bellic. This seemed to be an excellent merge case in my opinion, and would be glad to know why you feel Wikipedia needs a separate article. I have stated the main arguments for the merge on the talk page. Your GA nomination of Grand Theft Auto

The article Grand Theft Auto you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:Grand Theft Auto for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a reassessment. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:MrWhite.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:MrWhite.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:57, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Question

{{helpme}}

What page is the donation message at the very top on? I'd like to request a change for technical reasons. .:Alex:. 16:07, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

I believe that it has now been removed, and replaced with what you current see. I expect that soon that will be removed as well. Tiddly-Tom 16:11, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
But do you know what page it is on? I was going to see if the second sentence could be put on another line underneath as it interferes with templates in the header. .:Alex:. 16:12, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Fundraising redesign or http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2007 might help you. Tiddly-Tom 17:14, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Image-GTAIV Liberty City map.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Speedy deletion of Image:GTAIV Broker.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:GTAIV Broker.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the image can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:GTAIV Broker.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
