The todak raja (Megabelone artificialis), or Littoral Biodefence Unit MK-4, is a genetically modified massive weaponized needlefish that was primarily deployed in brackish and marine waters in the Pacific Theatre of the Corporate Wars. Initially conceived by the Singapore Ministry Of Defence (MINDEF), genetic information of this organism was subsequently leaked and sequestered by private security firms.

Megabelone individuals can measure up to 10 meters (30 feet) in length, but are mostly sedentary, remaining at the ocean floor to avoid detection by enemy forces. Most of their body mass is occupied by an overdeveloped nervous system and "transmitter organs" that convey signals to a shoal of 100-150 unmodified needlefish individuals under its control in a symbiotic relationship. These needlefish constitute the LBU's primary means of offense. Needlefish, like all ray-finned beloniforms, are capable of making short jumps out of the water at up to 60 km/h (37 mph).Their sharp beaks are capable of inflicting deep puncture wounds, often breaking off inside the victim in the process.

Description[edit]

sometimes our myths have teeth. sometimes our myths bite back. the suits thought they'd killed every last one of them. but leave a single word and the story comes back as real as ever. if you are reading this, then you are █ ██ ████ ██ ███

█ ██ ███ Defence Units are unable to hunt sufficient prey on their own to sustain their bulk. Instead, the LBU is protected by a shoal of needlefish individuals. Through a series of complex color, sound and pheremone cues, the LBU directs and coordinates its "slave" shoal to target and outmaneuver enemy combatants, which serve as its primary food source.

we whispered its name over noxious chemical fires. way before the Great Glass Wars of '45. way before the MRT tunnels started caving in, the ground like a mold-infested piece of swiss cheese. way before any of that, some fuckwit thought he would play God. A brilliant, spiteful twisted god.

Development[edit]

The Ministry Of Defence (Singapore) began investigating the applications of weaponized organisms in the early 2020s. MINDEF saw the need for a self-sustaining anti-personnel weapon that could be cheaply manufactured and attacked from an unconventional angle. █ ██ ███, █ ███. Among others, the garfish (Belone sp.) was chosen as a test subject due to its aggression, speed, existing reputation as a dangerous creature and high fecundity. █ ██ ███

███ ███ The Raja instructed his soldiers to slay the creatures terrorizing the shorelines of Temasek. But brave as they were, the men were cut down in droves.

everyone knows when we saw it the first time. we all remember it somehow, like it's in our genes. memory as genetic information. last rainy season it attacked the boys when they were looking for scrap metal. they only saw the small ones, the children of the monster. but the fishes moved like some intelligence, alien in its hate for anything two-legged, controlled them. i'm certain. i know it's out there somewhere.
