Gangchon Recreation Area is in the middle between Chuncheon-si and Gapyeong-gun. There is convenient for transportation and a lot of young people frequently visit there because there are many accommodations such as a camping village and youth hostel. Also there are many amusement facilities such as a cycle lane, a survival game field and a bungee jump field. On the periphery, there are some tourist attraction such as Gugok Falls, Samaksan, Bonghwasan, Geombongsan and Moonbae village.

Gangchon Recreation Area is in Gangchon-ri, Namsan-Myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, Korea. Gangchon Recreation Area is took center stage as a trip place from young people because of a beautiful view and a convenient traffic condition and so forth.[1] Gangchon is one of vacation spots that have high awareness about the place of youth. There are many tourist attractions such as Elysian Gangchon, Gugok Falls, Gangchon Theme Land.


Natural environment[edit]

Gangchon is a tributary area that formed along side with the Bukhangang(북한강) flowing between the Samaksan(삼악산) and the Geombongsan(검봉산). Gangchon Recreation Area is located on the area of confluence of two streams that Gangchon river runs into Bukhangang. Gangchon is located on the mid-latitude of Korean territory so influenced by continental climate.


Present condition[edit]

There are Gugok Falls, Deungseon Falls, Samaksan and a long walking road along the Bukhangang in Gangchon Recreation Area so many people can enjoy swim, fishing, tour and hiking.[2] Gangchon Recreation Area is widely known for trip attraction of many student because the Gangchon is so close to the Seoul. The Area is well stocked with lodgment and recreational facilities. Gangchon is the place that about 950,000 people trips a year. People who trip to Gangchon are mostly teen and twenty, and university student or company employee, and usually live in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do Province. Visitor trip to Gangchon in a overnight trip or a day’s trip for ‘M.T’ and date. The peak season of tourist for this area continues from spring to autumn. Many tourist visits to the this area for riding a four-wheeled bike, riding a bicycle, admiring the view and so on.[3]

Tourist attraction[edit]

  • Gugok Falls: Gugok Falls was designated as a tourist attraction of Chuncheon-si in Feb. 13th, 1981 and it has an area of 2,423㎢.

  • Rail bike: The ecological rail bike that means nature friendly was made by existing railway of Gyeongchun Line.[4]

Gangchon rail bike was developed as the course that enables us preserve the railway forever and observe the ecology of plant close to it.

  • Elysian Gangchon resort: Elysian Gangchon that is equipped with ski resort, golf course and membership resort is the large-scale synthetic recreational facilities in Namsan-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do, Korea.[5]
  • Gangchon theme land: This place is the theme land that people can enjoy variable tourist leisure facilities such as a four-wheeled bike and water leisure sports at one go. There are variable leisure programs such as water leisure sports, a four-wheeled bike, survival game, bungee jumping and so on.[6]
  • Suspension bridge(출렁다리): This bridge is old specialty of Gangchon recreation area and newly built in 30 years. This bridge is called ‘Suspension Bridge’.[7]
  • Samaksan(삼악산): The mountain at Seo-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do and Sindong-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do is called the ‘Samaksan’ because it has three of the highest peak.

Traffic[edit]

Gangchon area is good for the use of one day leisure to capital area people because Gangchon is close to Chuncheon(about 17km) and Seoul(about 75km, take a half hour).
