Hello, all, and this is the User Page of TrekkieSpeller! Stick around if you like, or just leave. I don't care.
History[edit]
I'm not entirely sure why I chose the name TrekkieSpeller. It's just kind of a random name I came up with on a whim. Kind of like most of my usernames. I originally didn't plan on getting that deeply involved with the Wikipedia editing community anyway, but as it shows I sure have gotten myself deep anyway.
It seems that most of the time my edits are grammatical and spelling corrections. Hence a lot of my earliest IP edits were in this category too, and that might have also encouraged my username choice. To be honest, I often don't have the patience to actually sit down and sift through pages of material to write a paragraph or two with proper citations. But I guess that's what comes of being an editor. I just usually refrain from making full additions to pages if I can't help it.
Annoying Brother[edit]
My annoying Brother often uses the alias 'SpamInACanMan' on our shared network. So far, he's only gotten my IP banned once, but it was rectified. So please, ban his ACCOUNT not our IP unless he ever manages to figure out a proxy (EXTREMELY doubtful) to my computer, in which case ban the IP until I can push him in the canal. Figuratively, of course.
IP Editing[edit]
I'm totally against IP editing. Sure, you can ban the IP, but someone could just switch connections, use Tor (anonymity network), or hack their neighbors' WiFi. Registering allows a lot more moderator control. To some this may seem like a violation of the wiki ideal of 100% community editing, but what's wrong with community editing by registration? It's one of the basic rules of good forum management. At least Wikipedia and wiki's in general have pretty good proxy detection. That at least counts for something.

The Gaming and Computing Aspect[edit]
Sure, I might not be as hardcore as some people might, but yes, I do game quite a bit. Not sitting down for 8 hour stretches on a single game (although I have done that), but rather just light, casual gaming here and there at the end of the day. Most of the time, I'll be playing Minecraft, typically on some multiplayer servers with friends. (Isn't that always more fun?) In my spare time on Singleplayer worlds, whether I'm away from my internet connection on my laptop or just don't want to do multiplayer for a while, I'm building up my so-called "empire". It's not really much more than a single small town right now, but you can be certain it'll grow in the future. In case you happen to want to know, my username on Minecraft is empirebuilder1. When I'm not playing Minecraft, I might also be playing Age of Empires III (username Fighter1), a RTS game, or Civilization 5 (username Techieman), another RTS game. Gee think I refer a particular line of games?
Computing and other system specs discussion[edit]
Currently, my laptop's specifications are as follows:
- Intel i7 3630-QM
- Nvidia GeForce GT650M
- 8 GB DDR3-1600 RAM
- 17.3 inch full HD anti-glare screen
Hopefully I shouldn't have to explain this to you much. If you can understand it, great, if you can't, it probably doesn't concern you much.
A new system (hopefully)[edit]
Maybe later this summer, I will be getting a new desktop computer. When I bought my current laptop back in September 2013, even I thought it was a good laptop but the real world performance hasn't quite been up to par. Sure, I can run Minecraft with 120 FPS and Civilization 5 without going lower than 40 FPS, but video encoding is a pain and I can't run Minecraft shaders at max like I would really like to. So, after quite a bit of investigation and some help from some very knowledgeable friends, I've come up with the following parts list.
- Intel i5 4670K (Haswell equivalent of the 3570K)
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (to go with the CPU)
- ASrock Z87 Pro4 ATX LGA 1150 motherboard
- MSI Radeon R9 280X, 3GB
- 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X Series DDR3-1866
- 21.5 inch BenQ LCD screen at 1920x1080
- and last but not least, the Cooler Master HAF XB EVO ATX Desktop Case.
