Kramer Electronics designs, manufactures and distributes audio-visual, network-based, conferencing and infrastructure products for hybrid (mixed local and remote) and BYOD (bring your own device) collaboration and control in corporations and institutions such as educational establishments, courts and local authorities. Kramer's enable seamless transmission, conversion and control of HD video and audio signals over internet infrastructure at professional standards. Kramer were wholly owned and managed by founder Joseph Kramer until 2021, when they were bought by the Israeli private equity fund Fortissimo Capital[1].

Products[edit]

The Kramer line consists of over 1000 products, mostly related to transmission of video and audio across various media. The company also markets a high-definition wireless presentation and collaboration software solution called VIA, that enables hybrid meetings where participants are both local and distant.[2]

Acquisition of Sierra Video

In 2003, Kramer Electronics bought Sierra Video, a company that manufactures Broadcast Routing equipment which expanded the Kramer product offering into large format routing products for composite video, RGBHV video and SDI and HD-SDI signals as well as audio signals.[3]

Acquisition of UC Workspace[edit]

In February 2022, it was announced Kramer has acquired the hybrid collaboration meeting room application provider, UC Workspace.[4]

History[edit]

Kramer Electronics was founded in 1981 by Joseph Kramer, whose PhD is in pharmaceutical biology, has been working in research and development at a company that manufactured headphones. When that company went out of business, he foresaw the significance of video, then in its infancy, and used the distribution channel that had existed to start selling video products of his own design.
