Michka Assayas

Michka Assayas (born November 2, 1958 [1] in Paris) is a French author and music journalist. In France, he is known for his rock reviews and the Dictionnaire du rock published in the year 2000. For his novel Exhibition, which also appeared in German translation, he received the Prix Découverte Figaro Magazine Fouquet's in 2002 [2] and in 2003 the Prix des Deux Magots. [3] The novel is a tribute to the rock and punk of the 70s and 80s. [4]

Life

Michka Assayas is the son of Italian-French screenwriter Raymond aka Jacques Rémy Assayas. His mother is from Hungary. His older brother Olivier Assayas is a director and screenwriter.

After graduating from the École Normale Supérieure de Fontenay-Saint-Cloud, he wrote since the early 80s for Rock & Folk with focus on post-punk groups such as Joy Division [5] and New Order. [6] Later, he wrote editorials for Libération and for the first issue of the magazine Les Inrockuptibles. Articles written by him appeared in VSD, 7 à Paris, Actuel and Le Monde de la Musique.

In 2000 he published the Dictionnaire du rock in 3 volumes with a total of 2650 pages. At times, he was an editor in the program by Bernard Lenoir on France Inter. Being a longtime friend of the singer Bono of U2, the latter figured as author of a book on their joint talks in 2005.

Between 2008 and 2012 he presented the radio show Subjectif 21 on the history of rock music every Sunday at 10 p.m. on France Musique. [7]
