Restream, founded in 2014, is an online streaming service with its main office located in Austin, Texas,[1] it allows users to simultaneously broadcast live video content across 30+ social media platforms. It acts as an intermediary, receiving the single stream from the user and redistributing it to various destinations such as Twitch, Kick, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook Live, and others.[2][3][4]

About[edit]

Restream was cofounded by Olexandr Khuda and Andriy Surzhinskiy.[5] Restream appeared on the raise of cloud-based multi-streaming. The cloud handles all the processing, eliminating concerns about bandwidth, upload speed, or high-end hardware.[4][6][7]

Initially, Restream operated as a platform for gamers and streamers, but it later became a marketing tool for businesses. Among others, the service was used by Slack, LinkedIn, Microsoft[8], Mailchimp, Dyson, Discovery channel, Dailymotion[9], and Boiler Room[10][11].

By January 2017, the platform had amassed over 100,000 registered users and facilitated approximately five million broadcasts.[12] In January 2017 Restream raised roughly $624,000 of investments.[13]

In 2018, Restream had 1 million users[14], and raised $2.4 million in equity funding.[15][16] Direct broadcasts to Facebook were introduced in September. In 2019, support for DLive was introduced, and a partnership with LinkedIn began in February.[17]

In September 2020, the platform had 2.5 million registered users.[18][19] Restream has gained popularity for its ease of use, affordability, and the capability to reach broader audiences by streaming to multiple platforms simultaneously.[20][21] Later this year, Restream secured $50 million in a Series A funding round, one of Austin's biggest rounds of 2020.[8][22][23]

In 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the company offered free services to humanitarian and medical organizations combatting the virus.[24] The WHO utilized Restream for daily news briefings, while Lombardy, the hardest-hit Italian region, used it to disseminate crucial updates.[10][24] Restream enjoys widespread popularity among professionals from diverse industries, including religious organizations, video game enthusiasts, musicians, and entrepreneurs.[25]

As of early 2022, Restream boasted 5 million users, with over 100,000 active daily.[26][27]
