DR. PETER KUHN[edit]

Dr. Peter Kuhn is a scientist, educator and entrepreneur known for his contributions to personalized medicine and individualized patient care.[1] He is focused on the redesign of cancer care.[1]

HIGHLIGHTS[edit]

  • Dr. Peter Kuhn is pioneering the development of the "PiNK Test," a blood-based screening method for breast cancer that could transform cancer detection and treatment monitoring.[2] This blood test, called liquid biopsy, may identify early-stage breast cancer and assess the likelihood of its recurrence.[3]
  • Dr. Peter Kuhn participated in President Joe Biden's initiative, the Cancer Moonshot, aimed at reducing the national death rate from cancer by 50% in 25 years, alongside fellow USC cancer scientist John Carpten (February 2022).[4][5][2]
  • Dr. Peter Kuhn is known for entrepreneurial ventures like founding Epic Sciences, Inc. in 2008 to develop cancer diagnostic products.[6] In 2012, Epic Sciences secured $13 million from venture capital investors to support the development of blood-based cancer tests detecting rare circulating tumor cells, aiding their market launch. [7] In 2018, Epic Sciences secured $52 million in funding to progress its range of cancer diagnostics and analytics.[8]

PASSION FOR CANCER CARE[edit]

Dr. Peter Kuhn, driven by personal experience with his mother's cancer diagnosis, transitioned from studying physics in Wuerzburg, Germany, to biomedical studies after an influential lecture in New York.[9]

His dedication to understanding cancer's spread via the bloodstream led to extensive research at Stanford University and the Scripps Research Institute before joining USC's Michelson Center.[9] At USC, Kuhn's focus on liquid biopsy aims to transform cancer detection, utilizing machine learning and a global data project.[9] In his roles as Dean’s Professor and leader of USC’s CSI-Cancer, Kuhn pioneers advancements like ATOM-HP and CancerBase for more tailored treatment decisions.[9]
