Original: Unlike her character, Bea Arthur hated cheesecake.[1]

Revised: One of the actresses on the show, Bea Arthur, actually hated cheesecake.

Original: Rue McClanahan recalled that Getty would seem to have a “black cloud” hanging over her head beginning Thursdays during dress rehearsal. During Friday tapings she would often freeze on camera. She was the least experienced actress of the four, and it intimidated her. In a 1988 interview she stated that working every week with talent like Bea Arthur and Betty White scared her out of her wits. She felt like a fraud and worried that the fans would “find out” that she wasn’t as good as her co-stars.[2]

Revised: As surprising as it may sound, Estelle Getty's continuously battled her fear of stage fright. During an interview in 1988, Getty's commented on her phobia and expressed how working with major stars, such as Arthur and White, made her even more nervous. There were times where she even froze on camera while filming.

Revised Lead:[edit]

William Clement Frawley (February 26, 1887 - March 3, 1966) was an American stage entertainer, screen and television actor. Frawley is best known for starring as the landlord, Fred Mertz, in the famous American television sitcom I Love Lucy. He is also known for playing "Bub" in the television comedy series, My Three Sons.

Frawley's career began in 1914 when he and his wife Edna Louise Broedt preformed a comedy act known as "Frawley and Louise" until their divorce in 1927. Frawley continued his career by performing on Broadway multiple times and also by signing a contract with Paramount Studios in 1916 to play in silent films. For 35 years, Frawley became an admired actor and entertainer in more than 100 films.[3]

Frawley was not known best for his personality. Those who worked with him labeled him as a cranky, old grouch who was sometimes hard to get along with. His drinking problem just added onto his irritable personality. He was always on thin ice with producers for his temper that once got him fired for punching an actor in the nose. When he got the call offering him the part of Fred Mertz on the hit series I Love Lucy, Desi Arnaz told him he would only get three chances before getting fired. [3]

William Frawley died on March 3, 1966; while walking home from a movie, Frawley suffered from a heart attack. [3]
