Kevlar[edit]

1. It is strong, light, and good under tension, but bad under pressure.
2. It is made of a super strong plastic
3. Steps in making it include making the plastic (which is called poly-para-phenylene terephthalamide (No wonder they call it kevlar!!)) and then turning it into something useful. The first one is chemistry, the next one is turning the product into something useful. The impact it has on pollution and our environment is pretty low. One of the main parts of the makinig is sulfuric acid, which can kill animals and plants if disposed of incorrectly. However, once created, Kevlar is 100% reusable.
4. We use kevlar in body armor. The more layers added, the higher the caliber of gun the kevlar can withstand. Kevlar can also withstand knives.
5. For normal people, a world without Kevlar would be unaffected. For the military, the world would be a lot more scary. Kevlar makes up a large portion of body armor, so without Kevlar, there would be even more KIA’s (Killed In Action) all over the place.
6. Kevlar takes a very long time to decompose, probably upward of 10 years.
7. Kevlar is 100% recyclable, so we can use it over and over again.
8. Kevlar is made into yarn, padding, somtimes is pulped, and many other things when recycled.
