[5][6][7]

Iñigo Errejón, during his adolescence, was a scout.[8]

Career and doctorate[edit]

He studied political science in the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), where he earned he degree in 2006.[9] During his university days, he joined various leftist movements with which he participated in anti-globalization protests in Genoa (July 2001, against the meeting of the G8, which it resulted in the anti-globalization activist Carlo Giuliani), Prague (September 2000, during the annual meeting of the board of governors of the IMF and World Bank) and Scotland (July 2005, against a new meeting of the G8), the mobilizations against of the Iraq War, and the manifestations of 13 March 2004 in front of the headquarters of the People's Party in Madrid after the attacks of 11-M.[10]

In 2006, he was one of the founders of the student association Contrapoder, a leftistanti-capitalist and internationalist group that organized acts of rejection of the presence of Rosa Díez in the UCM and invited Evo Moral to give a conference in the Faculty of Political Science.[11]

In 2012, he received his doctorate under the direction of Heriberto Cairo Carou with the thesis The struggle for hegemony during the first government of the MAS in Bolivia (2006-2009): a discursive analysis.[12]

Early work[edit]

He worked in Venezuela as Director of the Political Identities research line at the GIS XXI Foundation.[13][14]

Entry in Podemos[edit]

Errejón at the presentation of Podemos in January of 2014

In 2014, Pablo Iglesias proposed him to be campaign manager of Podemos in the European Parliament elections of 2014.[15] The campaign was a success, and the new party won 1.2 million votes.[16]

Errejón himself became one of the media leaders of the new party, participating in talk shows like The Sixth Night. [16]

On 15 November, he was chosen as one of the 11 members of the Council of Coordination of Podemos, commissioning him the office of secretary of policy.[17]

Controversy over his contract at the University of Málaga[edit]

On 17 November, the newspaper El Mundo aired one of his articles in the contract Errejón had from March with the University of Málaga (UMA). The project The property in Andalucia. Diagnosis, analysis and policy proposals for the commodification of housing was directed by Alberto Montero, professor of Applied Economics in the UMA and vice-president of theCEPS Foundation of which Errejón is a member of. Errejón had been the only candidate to stand for the posting of research. The contract called for a day of 40 weekly hours and a gross monthly salary of 1825 monthly euros.[16]

According to the newspaper, Errejón «hardly devoted time» to the work, whereas Errejón said on the contrary that his contract was renewed regularly every three months precisely because it fulfilled the tasks assigned by the research group of the UMA.[18] The same newspaper noted that the incompatibilities of the staff in the Public Administration Service Act would prevent reconciliation of paid work and receiving a salary as a researcher hired by the University of Malaga. However, the project manager later said that Errejón had permission to work from Madrid and the rector of the University of Málaga, Adelaida de la Calle said that the contract was a procedure Errejón "fully regulated" by law.[19][20][21]

Following a statement by Susana Diaz, general Secretary of the PSOE-A and President of theJunta de Andalucía, which posed measures to take, the UMA opened an information package to assess whether Errejón had breached the terms of the contract. The opening of proceedings was communicated to Errejón and Alberto Montero, which was also the leader at that time.[22][23][24]

On 4 December, Adelaida de la Calle decided for the temporary suspension of the pay of Errejón.[25] According to Podemos, the case was considered a "campaign of defamation" against Errejón for being one of the party's most visible faces, now an emerging force. Its spokesman of Relations with Civil Society and Social Movements, Rafael Mayoral, even hinted that the pressures of the Andalusian could have influenced the decision taken against Errejón.[26][27] His spokesman of Relations with the Civil Society and the Social Movements, Rafael Mayoral, insinuated even that the pressures of the Board of Andalucia could have influenced the resolution taken against Errejón.[28] The adviser of Promotion of the Board of Andalucia, Elena Cortes of United Left, has demanded him to a supervisor that shows these supposed interferences.[29][30]

 2015 regional election[edit]

Errejón has been the campaign manager of Podemos in the Elections to the Andalusian parliamentary elections of 22 March 2015, in which the party won 15 seats.[4] Last month, he also participated as a speaker at the International Forum for Empowerment and Equality, held in Buenos Aires.[31]

He was confirmed as campaign manager of the regional elections scheduled for May 24. [4]
