International Nudibranch Day (IND) is an informal day of celebration of the sea slug. Nudibranchs are soft-bodied molluscs that show an incredible diversity of colours and shapes, and are found in all oceans, from the tropics to Antarctica. These aesthetically-pleasing invertebrates are popular with tidepoolers, divers and scientists alike. Nudibranchs are one kind of sea slug, with the whole group broadly known as opisthobranchs.
The day has been observed by some scientists for a number of years, but is not yet widely known.
