About Me[edit]

Hello, I'm Nativ32 and I'm in a class that is focused on making Wikipedia pages involving youth and youth issues more inclusive and intersectional. I am interested in editing articles that have to do with youth sexuality and/or sexual identity.

Proposed Article to Edit[edit]

I have decided to edit the article Transgender youth as my main project for this class. I believe that it is an important topic that is not very well discussed on the page as it currently is. There is a lack of information on many subtopics related to Transgender youth, some of the sections lack citations, and the article lacks an overall neutral point of view. On top of these issues, the article mentions almost nothing of the struggles faced by transgender youth in the global south. The wikipedia:WikiProject LGBT studies has labeled this article as a start, and I am hoping the changes I make will grant it a better label.

The first thing I plan to do with this article is to remove biased and/or irrelevant information. Certain sections, such as the puberty section of this article, contain information or ideas completely irrelevant to an encyclopedia. Another way in which this article is biased is the lack of information outside of the global north. For example, this article contains a section on the Australian socio-legal perspective, but contains no information on the social or legal standing of transgender youth outside of Australia. Though I think that this section contains some important information, I plan on leveling it out with information from other countries to create a more inclusive perspective on the subject.

I also plan on adding much more information to this article. On top of social and legal statuses of trans youth in different countries and regions around the world, I hope to include information about common struggles faced by trans youth. Bullying of trans youth in school, for example, is a prominent issue that I plan to include in the article. Homelessness due to abandonment by family or of family by trans youth is another topic that would be very relevant to this article. Discrimination against trans youth in the workplace and in higher education is yet another central issue relevant to this article, and finally, high homicide rates of transgender youth is another concern that i would like to address.
