Terminology[edit]

Constructed wetlands as semi-centralized nature-oriented treatment technology for different types of wastewater.

In the past, wetlands have been considered wasteland and have been drained and converted to farmland. Nowadays there is more awareness about the ecological relevance of wetlands and some of them are being restored and recultivated. This is another domain where the term of "constructed wetland" is used.

Applications or appropriateness (in the case of a particular technology)[edit]

See existing heading "general application"

...

Background (in the case of a concept)[edit]

I thing we don't need this subheading.

Design considerations (includes construction and, possibly, appropriateness (or the latter could be a section on its own))[edit]

depends very much on the types, could therefore be sub-section of the different types but not a subheading. The existing article has a sub-section "design characteristics"

Sub-section on "Plants" could be placed either here or within the different types. --> are the plants mostly similar within the types?

Types (in the case of design variants)[edit]

Natural wetlands[edit]

Subsurface-flow wetlands[edit]

horizontal flow wetlands[edit]
vertical flow wetlands[edit]

Surface-flow wetlands[edit]

Settling Ponds[edit]

Tidal-flow wetlands (?)[edit]

Hybrid systems[edit]

Treatment wetland (?)[edit]

Characteristics or properties (in the case of a group of substances)[edit]

is probably described in the Types?

but where to put the contaminants removal heading? I am missing something like an operation mode section...

Maintenance[edit]

Health aspects[edit]

Environmental aspects (could be combined with "health aspects" above)[edit]

contaminants removal could be placed here as well. Also the section on biofiltration.

Biofiltration[edit]

General contaminants removal[edit]

Specific contaminants removal[edit]

Nitrogen removal[edit]
Organic nitrogen[edit]
Ammonia removal[edit]
Ammonia (NH3) and ammonium (NH+4)[edit]
Domestic sewage—ammonia[edit]
Mine water—ammonia[edit]
Phosphorus removal[edit]
Biomass plants incorporation—phosphorus[edit]
Retention by soils or root-bed media—phosphorus[edit]
Domestic sewage—phosphorus[edit]
Metals removal[edit]
Mine water—Acid drainage removal[edit]

Usage: Includes information on operation and maintenance (in the case of a technology)[edit]

If relevant: Products from this sanitation system and how to deal with them (e.g. dried faeces)[edit]
