Zanaan Wanaan[1], also known as ZW, is Kashmir's first independent feminist multi-media platform. It is an experimental cross-section of art, academia, media and activism. Zanaan Wanaan are two Kashmiri words for 'women speak'. ZW's tag line is 'new beginnings, radical possibilities'.

ZW produces original work in the form of bi-annual issues. These issues are thematic collections of works of Kashmiri women from diverse backgrounds in the form of academic articles, narrative essays, investigative reports, auto-ethnographic accounts, interviews, artworks, photo-essay, video stories, and more.

ZW was formed in early 2020 by a group of young Kashmiri women who hoped that it will contribute meaningfully towards expanding the traditional understanding of conflict and life in Kashmir by facilitating, amplifying, and advocating for women’s involvement in socio-political discourse.

Issue 1[edit]

On 27 Oct 2020, ZW published its first digital issue on the theme 'Revisiting Dispossession and Loss in Kashmir'. It is a collection of works by 20 Kashmiri women. The issue is open access and can be downloaded from ZW website.

In Feb 2020, the group released a Kashmiri version of Bella Ciao in remembrance and celebration of the long resistance of Kashmiri people against tyranny and injustice.[2]
