Snibston Fashion Gallery[edit]
The Fashion Gallery is contained within Snibston Discovery Museum and is one of the largest displays of historic and contemporary fashion in the country. In seven thematic areas, featuring over 150 fully accessorised mannequins, the Fashion Gallery explores the changing story of fashion from the 1750s through to the present day, reflecting the changing taste of local men and women, the products of Leicestershire manufacturers and retailers, and the creative talents of leading designers and couturiers.
The collections on display include the internationally famous Symington Collection of Corsetry from Market Harborough, the archive of leading British fashion retailer NEXT, the Siddon's Scarf Collection and the Wallis coat archive designed by Sylvia Ayton MBE.
The Changing Room in the Fashion Gallery is a dedicated display space for temporary exhibitions on a wide range of fashion subjects where the exhibitions change at least once a year and often use fashion to reflect on topical stories, anniversaries or events. Many of the exhibitions feature work by contemporary designers and some showcase work by students from local universities and colleges as part of live projects with the fashion collections.
Hands on access to some of the reserve collections at the Fashion Gallery are possible, such as the Symington Collection of Corsetry can be tailor-made to suit your needs, facilitated by a Museum specialist and are available by appointment only. These are available to schools, colleges and universities as well as specialist groups.
