The Sweeper is a school-playground game, mostly involving a skipping rope.

History[edit]

The games can vary from just a skipping rope spun on the ground or a skipping rope tied to a hula hoop that is spun on the ground. The history below is for the one involving the hula hoop.

Rope history[edit]

Rope and hoop history[edit]

On 26 April 2010, a student at a County Durham school tied a plastic skipping rope to a plastic hula hoop and started to spin it. Other students in the area started to jump when the rope tied to a hoop was near their feet. The game started to evolve and one of the students named the rules. 3 lives are situated in the game.

Named "The Sweeper"[edit]

Naming the game was the hard part. One student said to name the game "Spin the hoop tied to a rope". The many other students said no. The student who invented the game said "The Sweeper", then "The Kids Sweeper". The student perferred the game to be called "The Sweeper".

Rules for "The Sweeper"[edit]

  • When the rope tied to a rope is touched by your body, you lose a live. (3 lives in the game).
  • When all your lives are gone, you spin the rope tied to a hoop.
  • If your foot landed in the hoop, you lose 2 lives. (3 lives in the game).
