From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Greetings!
My name is Ryan, and it's my pleasure to welcome you, Kuru/archive-2006, to Wikipedia! First of all, I'd like to thank you for joining the project, and contributing to articles and discussion. I hope you can continue to take part in Wikipedia, because we need more valuable editors like yourself.

If you are new and need some assistance, here are some great links to check out:

I hope you enjoy editing here, and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, find out where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Before I go, here's one more tip. When you post on talk pages, be sure to sign your name and the date by typing four tildes: [[User:Kuru|<font color = "DarkGoldenrod">'''Kuru'''</font>]] [[User talk:Kuru|<font color = "Goldenrod">''talk''</font>]] 00:08, 2 April 2006 (UTC). That automatically generates your username and the date. Again, welcome, and happy editing!  --King of All the Franks 05:05, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Islam

Hi, I noticed you reverted the article Islam to a vandalised version that replaced {{islam}} with {{terrorism}}. I appreciate the fact that you've been doing a lot of reverts, but please be careful not to make reverts like that accidentally. People may mistake you for a vandal for doing that (I did, and left a vandal warning here at first, but then I checked your contributions and realised it must have been an accident). - ulayiti (talk) 16:26, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

There were two references added to "terrorism" which I was trying to remove, and I apparently crossed paths with another person trying to revert one but not the other. You have my most sincere apologies for this error. Kuru 16:23, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, no, I'm sorry about that. Perhaps I should have assumed good faith and checked your contributions before passing judgement. - ulayiti (talk) 16:28, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Warwick Shool

Hello, I have a vast knoweldge of the history of Warwick School and have many reference books from which i look up my information. If you look at the history of the "Warwick School" page, you will see that I have added 2 paragraphs of information, however, GN Frykman, seems to find it funny to dismiss my hard work as "vandalism". Please contact this user and block him if necessary - he can't simply go around deleting people's hard work. It seems that he has also been very rude to one of the wikipedia moderators. Thanks, Liam

Ditto! Welcome to Wikipedia. Thanks for reverting that random deletion to Texas today. The article does have sort of a jump from the prior paragraph (about the civil war) to the paragraph that was deleted. I was watching to see if the anonymous editor might add something on a subsequent edit, but alas, he/she did not do so, so reverting their deletion was definitely the right thing to do. User:burnbabyburn

At my school, I heard some rumors about Wikipedia's Jeff Chang article. I went to investigate it, and saw that User:Burnbabyburn had vandalised it. This user has also vandalised the Jack London article on Feb.21. (See contributions) His account was apparently created only for vandalism. The vandalism seems to have been deleted by now, but I think you should give him a warning or block him. All names in his edits are names of other students in Hopkins Junior High school in Fremont, California. I know all this because I am a student at the school, but one who wants to help Wikipedia.

On Deletion of Babble from the Brooks Page

Aha!!! So I noticed you sniffed out my little contribution to the Brooks page... A technical act of vandalism, no doubt, but I hardly thought it was harmful... I was just trying to add some spice to our base's mundane entry - especially since it higlighted some of the real details of daily life here! I mean from reading that junk, one could learn about the relative non-militaristic-ness of this place, how we have a bunch sciency stuff here, and most of all, a bit of an homage to the late legendary programmer Zupko, and the dictatorship he's trying to establish! How do you go wrong there?! Well... Yeah. Obviously, just a joke meant for our eyes. But alas, twas clearly too blatant, and no match for your pervading aura of anti-vandalism. Hopefully he still sees it in the archives, though... Peace brethren, keep up the good fight

Vandalism and Graffitti

This might seem insignificant to you, but, I ( as well as graffiti artists and most people acquainted with graffiti art and/or culture) feel that there's a difference between graffiti and vandalism: the former description is usually reserved for intent, like politics or art; the latter is reserved for defacement with no inherent meaning. Under law graffiti is just a subset of vandalism, but I think a distinction should be made since the vast majority of vandalism would not be considered graffiti by the artists themselves (nor by the graffiti community), and the vast majority of graffiti would not be considered mere vandalism by almost anyone except cops and the owners of the property. Anyways, I brought this up to humbly request that you would consider changing "I ... have been actively reverting 'graffiti' ..." to "I ... have been actively reverting 'vandalism' ..." in recognition of this subtle but fundamental difference which so many people draw. Thanks a bunch. Zanturaeon 07:33, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

While I disagree with your position on the societal definition of the word grafitti, my intent was not to offend a segment of the artistic community and I can easily express the thought without that particular noun. I am open to changing the wording on my user page, and will revise and expand the text this weekend. Thanks for the feedback. Kuru talk 23:45, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Kuru/archive-2006, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of KnowledgeOfSelf, JoanneB, FireFox and Titoxd. The next set of elections will be in April, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Cheers! Sango123 (e) 01:28, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

I Did Not vandalize Civil Liberties

i am not sure how to get intouch with Kuru, but he claimed that I vandalized the Civil Liberties article. I did make a couple articles to promote my website, which were deleted. But I was in no way vandalizing other articles. I have contributed in a positive way to a few articles including Jay-Z and others. However, I am in no way trying to undermind what you guys have going on here. I find it a little ridiculous that my IP address was accused of vandalizing articles.—This unsigned comment was added by 64.80.89.55 (talkcontribs) .

Here is the addition in question: [1]. The edit seems to quite clearly be vandalism, I'm sure you'll agree. If you have an internet service provider that assigns you a new IP address every so often, you may get warnings intended for others. Please let me know if you have any other questions I can answer. What Change to Greek Temples?

I received a message from Kuru saying that my ability to update pages would be taken away if I keep up blatant vandalism like I did to Greek Temples. But, I don't know what change I made. In fact I don't recall having edited any Wikipedia page (save this one). No one in my family (who shares our fixed IP address) would vandalize Wikipedia. Could you tell me the the change made or how I could find it in order to try to address the problem? Everyone at our home appreciates Wikipedia and the effort put into making it great. The note was sent to my IP address of 67.103.46.18.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary! You can view the edit in question by clicking on this link: [2]. The change basically consisted of adding the word "CHICCKEN" followed dutifully by 71,719 exclamation points. While I usually assume good faith and simply ask that people are careful with their edits, this is a case where I feel the vandalism was time consuming and deliberate enough to call it blatant.
As to who made the edit, it definitely came from the IP address you are using now. Since it wasn't you, and since I can accept your assessment of the other people who use your computer, the only other thing I can think of would be an unsecured wireless router, which would allow other people to use your internet connection (and would use the same IP).
Regardless, I would encourage you to create an account here; it is painless and easy, and you would avoid any problems with blocks placed against the IP address itself (assuming vandalism continued, of course)! Kuru talk 00:28, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Kalendar Koffee House

Hi Ryan, Deleting Kalendar from the coffee house category is wrong. To claim that Kalendar is advertising is also incorrect. The Kalendar article lists date of opening and location with interior photo. The so called "vanity" aspects have been removed from the article. Kalendar may not be as "noteable" as the larger chains, but that should not preclude it from listing in the coffee house category. To call this article spam would be to call all listings in this category spam. The previous AFD article was edited down to be considered for inclusion - tis all. No harm intended. Please reconsider. The following is the opening paragraphs of the Starbucks listing. I imagine that all listings in this category are similar to this.

Starbucks NASDAQ: SBUX (SEHK: 4337), is a large multinational chain of coffee shops, often serving pastries, popular in the US especially among students and young urban professionals. The corporate headquarters are in Seattle, Washington. The company was in part named after Starbuck, a character in Moby-Dick, and its insignia is a stylized cartoon Siren. According to the company's fact sheet, as of February 2006, Starbucks had 6,216 company-operated outlets worldwide: 5,028 of them in the United States and 1,188 in other countries and U.S. territories. In addition, the company has 4,585 joint-venture and licensed outlets, 2,633 of them in the United States and 1,952 in other countries and U.S. territories.

By definition most of the listings in the coffee house category are "non-notable". In fact the majority of the listings are not known outside the constituency where they are established. Being "non-notable" has always been a difficult area for editors. In this instance for example, the band Pursuit of Happiness wrote a song and video about Kalendar (1996 Kalendar/Gretzky Rocks/In Praise Of (T.W.A.-The World's Address). This by definition makes Kalendar a noteable entity by Wikipedia standards see Wikipedia:Notability "A topic has notability if it is known outside of a narrow interest group or constituency, or should be because of its particular importance or impact". Hey i am that guy who edited Gurnee (i wasn't signed in)

yeah i deleted nothing. I was adding facts about the flood. Nothing more. I was there. I know. i hate how all you Mods or whatever keep editing stuff when i try t help (except for the first few times a month ago the whole ballerina thing) but otherwise yeah i hope you get my point—This unsigned comment was added by CoasterFreak57 (talkcontribs) .

If you take a look at the results of your change (here: [3]), you can see that you also deleted large chunks of text from the article in random places. Since these deletions created an unreadable article with odd sentence fragements, the change was reverted. Since the IP you were using had a history of vandalism of the same type[4] (blanking), my assumption was that this was also intended as vandalism. I honestly missed the text you added about the flood, and I apologise for not assuming good faith. Please feel free and welcome to re-add the content, and I will simply correct any errors that pop up instead of revert the entire change. Kuru talk 23:59, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Baker

HEY! Stop deleting my update of ther term "Baker"! It i a legitimate slang term used here in O.C., and I have taken the time to try to update it twice, and you deleted it all as vandalism. It is not vandalism! It is a legitimate Socal slang term like "dude", or "bodacious", or "rad." I am really slow at this and you have just wasted a lot of my valuable time. Why do you keep doing that? = SoCalFranchize—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.156.73.126 (talkcontribs) .

Thanks for asking for more feedback on your additions. There are two problems: (1) the term you're adding looks like a neologism that was just made up. If you can provide citations to articles or any other serious references to allow people to verify the definiton, that would be a great start. (2) the term, or any reference to it is not appropriate for the "baker" article, which is about the obvious usage of the term. You were absolutely on the right track by add a link to a disambiguation page, and then added a new page for "baker (pornography)", but a simple link to the disamb page suffices. Best of luck Kuru talk 03:36, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
O.K.....but how do you cite for a slang term? Even Webster just started including slang terms a few years ago, and this one is relatively new. I thought it would be cool to have it added to the content of your website so that wikipedia could be the first "official" or "legitimate" cite for the term, which is gaining popularity here in SoCal. How do I provide references for a slang term, particularly a relatively new slang term???
And if I were to just add the link to the page that I made explaining the term, instead of adding it to the "inappropriate" definition page, would it have been left alone? If that was where I errored, I will gladly put it back without the blurb on the popular use "baker" page.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.156.73.126 (talkcontribs) .

Alamo Heights High School

Jeez, you did it to me too. I was innocently putting more information on the entry for the school that I ATTEND, so I think that I would know a little more about it than you. The edit in question [5] appears to be adding the comment "YEAH OX DADDY!!!!!!!" after a teacher's name. While I'm sure you're (rightfully) proud of your school and teachers, such a comment is not encyclopedic and that was the reason I reverted it. None of your other additions were affected. The message I left on your talk page assumed you made the change as a test. I was being kind in calling it simply nonsense when reverting your edit. Upon reviewing your edit history, it would appear that you have added the same commentary about six or seven times with several previous reversions. At that point, I can't continue to assume good faith, and your attempts to make edits despite the concerns of several other editors appears to be simple vandalism. It was only Hitler's father that there has been accusations made, never his mother. -- Drogo Underburrow 04:04, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

entry

i entered some interesting pages which Kuru has said are spam. The pages relate to the topic for example alfa romeo i put a link to a page with a car show organised by the alfa romeo club. I think that some people are a little over enthusiastic with removal etc. I am new to this as you can probably guess. I just thought that surely a related article would be of interest to anyone looking at the Alfa Romeo page ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.159.118.157 (talkcontribs) .

I reverted three of your links which did not directly point to anything on your website related to the topic at hand and seemed to clearly conflict with WP:EL. You have since replaced the links with more specific versions (that point to the topical page), so I assume you realized your mistake and a further explanation of my reversions is not necessary.
It would be fantastic if you could use your obviously advanced knowledge of the automotive industry to contribute to the content of the articles instead of simply adding links – we need all the help we can get to build the encyclopedia. I hope you stick around! Kuru talk 23:23, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply, yes i would like to write some articles on this great site, i put the links on because i thought they added something different and would be of interest. Yesterday was the first day that i have visited this site, so i think my enthusiasm was beyond my understanding of the site. I must admit i am still not really 100% about it, but i will have a read and get my head around it some more. The size of this site is incredible. Thanks once again for your reply. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.159.118.157 (talkcontribs) .

Secrets Behind the Da Vinci Code

Kuru,

You deleted a link I added to Dan Brown's entry. This site, http://secretsbehindthedavincicode.wetpaint.com/, is not a commercial site anymore than Wikipedia is. It is an encyclopedic Wiki site that is directly related to Dan Brown and has full permission from author Dan Burstein to write on topics discussed behind his Da Vinci texts. Also, it is not a personal Web site. I am a contributor there, just as I am here. I have also added Wikipedia links to sites without problems- why the bias?

Amylopan 09:34, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

You linked several articles to the main page of a very small wiki which does not appear to have much in the way of relevant content. There would appear to be one interview on Dan Brown; which you have to find, and it is from another site. I also could find very little on Knights Templar and nothing on The Solomon Key, articles in which you also linked the site to. Adding the link very quickly to multiple seemingly unrealted pages is why I considered your attempts spamming rather than just adding an inappropriate link; please read WP:SPAM. I am not sure of what you're referring to in your last sentence; why do you feel I have a bias? Kuru talk 12:16, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words about the editing I've done recently. It's nice to have a little time to contribute to Wikipedia.

There is a history tab associated with each article. You can use it to look at every change made to an article. You can also use the "watch" tab to add an article to your own personal watchlist. This will show you when a watched article has been changed. Many aquatic articles are on my watchlist, so your changes to Ocellaris Clownfish and Clownfish were very apparent. I hope that any future changes to those articles are more constructive. Kuru talk 03:55, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Occult Origin Dragon

Kuru: I am not sure if this how to talk to you. Are you going to let me write on dragon. I see you deleted my start.

Wuotan Wuotan 17:16, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely, you are free to add anything you wish to the article. It may be removed if it cannot be verified or if it is off-topic for the article. In this particular case, you added only a section title and no other content for five hours and there were no indicators that you intended to make more edits, so I removed the empty section. It may be helpful to use the "Edit summary" field to indicate what you're trying to do. It may also be helpful to write the section offline and then enter it all at once. You can also add the {{underconstruction}} text to a section to indicate that there's more to follow. I hope this helps. Kuru talk 18:04, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Ethical Codes

You removed the links I added for the book Developing A Code of Business Ethics. I understand your point for removing the link, but not for removing the reference. It is not a commercial advertisement - we are a not-for-profit charity and I felt the reference would be of use to anyone wanting more information on this subject. Perhaps you would like to review the information first before you dismiss it as advertising. [7] Is a genuine non-commercial resource.

I review all links before I see added, and I very rarely remove them. The link to the front page of your website has no actual content I could locate quickly - all I could see were advertisements for selling your publications, and offers to subscribe to your services, and descriptions of your organization. I cannot see how this adds value to the articles you added it to. Since you added no other content to the article, I am not sure how you are using your publication as a cite or as a resource - so my assumption is that it is simple promotion for the publication which is being sold at your site. It does not matter that your organization is not-for-profit; it would appear that you are simply trying to promote yourself. If you could explain how this book is more notable than the other hundreds of books on ethics, that would be very helpful. If you could add some significant content to the encyclopedia, and then cite your publication, that would also lend acceptance to including it as a reference. Thanks! Kuru talk 01:53, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice; that's made it a lot clearer and I shall certainly do as you suggest.

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

External Links in Access

Be consistent - What are you talking about... What about all the other links - Which are Commercial links...

What is your criteria for a commercial link in the MS Access Area

Xenia007 23:28, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm not fond of any commercial links unless they add significant value to the article; a simple link to a consultant's pitch is not acceptable. The applicable policy is at WP:EL; this is not a link repository, and there are several other links in that list that probably will get cleaned up when I get a moment. Thanks for asking! Kuru talk 23:30, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Xenia007 23:35, 26 June 2006 (UTC):Ok great then take off the ones which go to a page that have AD SENSE ON THEM - otherwise its imcomprehensible why you removed my link and leave those...
since the link i did have up there is linked to from around the world... its probably one of the best explanations of WHY access is NOT a database... i repeat access is not a database... anyway what's the use..
Xenia007 22:59, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
The Advertisment links in MS Access are STILL there...
for example... http://www.databasedev.co.uk/ - which is a link in external links GOES right to a page with AD Sense..
so do these...
http://www.functionx.com/access/index.htm
http://www.utteraccess.com/
http://www.yaccess.com/
http://www.drewslair.com/desk/access_series/Intro.htm
http://alexdyb.blogspot.com/
so what about them they all have ADS on them and mine did not...
Many of those sites have content that far outweighs the small ads they've placed on the site and I've removed those that do not. I've looked at each link and commented on them at Talk:Microsoft_Access. If you're really interested in helping examine the list; feel free to continue the discussion there.
If you're simply trying to promote your one page ad for Access as an "enterprise level programming toolkit"; I still don't think it's an appropriate link. Feel free to build the information into the article, as long as the information is neutral in tone and verifiable. We could really use someone with your obviously competent knowledge of software development to help with a variety of articles. Thanks! Kuru talk 00:36, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Online Marketing

I tried to add an external link from this page to a page with good links that are ranked by people on oozm search engine tags on online marketing and you removed that external link. Why are those not considered relevant data in the age of new technology where people have a say? Just like wikipedia? Why is this spam? Don't you want people to find what is relevant as rated by people just like you? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.94.158.102 (talkcontribs) .
I wish you the very best of luck in lauching your new website - it looks very interesting. It does not, however, seem to add anything to the articles you've linked it to. At the current time, there is very litte content - I'm not sure how a link to links of six or seven other sites with a handful of "ratings" builds on the article. You can look at the guidelines for external links at WP:EL. I'm afraid the rest of your questions seem to be assumptions that I can not help you with. Thanks! Kuru talk 02:57, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

The ChicoProject Editor

Sir, I am the editor of The ChicoProject Wiki. I am sorry for the poor quality of this article, but it is my first article on Wikipedia.
I am defiantly not trying to spam Wikipedia with this article.
I was going to try to counter some of your arguments against The ChicoProject via data from Google analytics, but being an IT professional I’m sure you have access to similar analytical tools, so would you please give me some tips or suggestions on how to make my Wiki page better? Will 17:11, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, I didn't say the article was in poor shape - my point was merely to address how your group meets the guidelines for having an article here. The applicable guidelines for a company are listed at WP:CORP, and they're a little bit on the tight side. Some of the comments about it looking like an ad were because of the non-neutral tone of many of the points in the article. This one of the reasons we also have guidelines on vanity articles (referenced at WP:VANITY) - many people have difficulty in writing articles on subjects where they have a conflict of interest. You apparently really like your company, and that's great, but it makes it difficult to write in the neutral article we require here. I love the company I work for as well, and I would never, ever touch their article here for that reason. Kuru talk 22:39, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

DISCUSSION symbolic anthropology article

July 8/9, 2006 There is an article for symbolic anthropology. But for some reason the link doesn't work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_anthropology I don't know...

... OK so I posted a question about how to fix this linking problem, I think it is item 119 at the bottom of the page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_%28technical%29

If you don't know how to fix the link problem, please don't take out VALID article links, even if they ARE red. Someone else may be able to figure out how to fix them. Thanks.

Also, please do a SEARCH for these links BEFORE you delete them. You will see that articles DO exist for these topics.

Just deleting nonfunctioning links does not help. There ARE articles on these topics! The help information tells us to go ahead and include links even if we don't know how to make them work, because someone else will know how. I am following the proper procedure by keeping in the red links.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.205.249.2 (talkcontribs) .

I removed a bad link three days ago that had been on the article for a week (6/6). I'm afraid that the cursory search I conducted did not turn up a valid article to link to, so I removed the red link. A better tactic may have been to ask for assistance and to politely point out what you were attempting to do. You seem to have received responses to your to your subsequent poostings to the Village Pump, so I will assume I cannot be of any assistance at this point. Kuru talk 13:14, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
On further review, your IP address's edit history makes it fairly clear which article you were trying to link to since you had edited it frequently - I should have checked that and corrected the link. You have my apologies. Kuru talk 13:17, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

You've inserted an external link to a site that is nothing more than an ad for the video, complete with a big giant price tag and 'add to cart' button. Please read the policy guideline that I inlcuded a link to in my comments (WP:EL), namely the part about links that "primarily exist to sell products or services." Thanks. Whitman link discussion

Sir, I mistakenly placed someones copyrighted website to expand the articles. The site is copyrighted and the "discussion" is over. There is no need to debate an issue that is illegal and not going to happen. The owner has threatened a lawsuit if it is not removed and left off Wikipedia; now consider yourself warned!71.121.103.147 02:34, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

You would appear to be very confused. You have posted a link to the original website, and you have not 'copied' any of the content into the dozen or so articles you spammed the link to. Those edits were no only perfectly acceptable from a copyright standpoint, but they have since been reverted. So the original action has no issue other than the violation of Wikipedia's policy on linkspamming. But that's all immaterial to the action you were warned about. Since you're trying to delete the discussion about the link - what in the world would that have to do with "copyright"? One would think that the author would like to have a record of the "transgression" and the discussion of it so that future "violations" would not occur. Again, please do not remove discussions from article talk pages. Kuru talk 03:10, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
You have a curious way of phrasing sentences and words. "You would appear to be very confused." Is that what you meant? Wrong on the copied into the article part - my copied parts were reverted by Sherurcij in the Charles Whitman article! I then posted it as an external link to other articles I felt it was pertinent to! If you weren't so assumptive and investigated this prior to making spamlinking allegations you would know that! Are you an administrator? And there were no "transgressions" or "violations" Mr. Kuru, only an honest mistake! That's all!71.121.103.147 03:56, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
1. You were attempting to add links to many semi-related articles to promote a website. Several other editors reverted your edits, and began a discussion on the issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Texas. You were presented with our opinion that your links were excessive and were not in alignment with policy. You agreed not to continue to post the links. Honest mistake. This is no longer an issue.
2. You are attempting to remove this discussion from all article and project talk pages. This is an issue. You have been asked not to do this several times. You are claiming that there is some unspecified 'copyright' issue involved. The above comment stated my position on why this is not the case; please clarify what you, or 'the author of the website' feel this to be. Kuru talk 04:08, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

You've got this GIGO karma going and it is quite annoying! Stop telling me what my attempts were, and I know I was asked a few times to stop! Get over it! The copyright owner wasn't asked if his copyrighted site could be used! You have to have permission to use it by the copyright holder! You get his permission and the discussion is over!!!71.121.103.147 05:23, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

solomons key link spam?

Hi

I'm a little confused as to what constitutes a "personal" website as the other external links on the page are distinctly of a "personal" nature.

I'd appreciate if you would re consider the entry.

Thanks Mike —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mikerealhot (talkcontribs) .

I'm sorry for the confusion, Mike. After I initially looked at the site, it had very, very little to do with The Solomon Key and would appear to simply be a promotional front for an online casino. It was basically a "raffle" for a book that had not even been published and was not an official event. The second time you added the link, it pointed to a small (dozen) list of articles that had nothing to do with the book. Of course, this discounts the advertising slapped all over the page. I have reviewed the link again, and it is unchanged; I'm afraid I don't see any reason the link meets Wikipedia's standards for inclusion.
Please read the policy on external links at WP:EL. Thanks for taking the time out to ask about the policy instead of re-adding the link. Kuru talk 02:29, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Kuru,

I have taken into account what you have said and have massively improved and ammended the news page on the solomon key. It now offers a relevent news feed with the added value of being displayed on others sites - this is a unique feature of the site and I personally think a wonferful one offering both relevency and of course something valuable for free. The articles will also be archived allowing for a historical review of relevent news pertaining to the topic of the solomon key and of course dan brown.

Please let me know if you permit my re-submission of the site as an external link for that topic.

Thanks!

Mike

p.s. the link to the solomon key news page http://www.solomonskey.net/solomon-key-news.asp —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mikerealhot (talkcontribs) .

Hi again, Mike. I'm not really in a position to 'permit" any thing; we all are of equal footing to edit articles according to the established policies and guidelines. In all fairness, I don't think my opinion of your link has really changed all that much, so I've asked some other editors to take a look at it and see if I'm just being too picky. NPOV Help

Kuru,

Since you were kind enough to welcome me to Wikipedia and encourage me to "BE BOLD", I am asking for you help.

I decided to be bold, and placed a POV-check on the [Refund Anticipation Loan] article. I explained my reasons on the talk page. If you have the time, could you take a look and let me know if I did alright?

Also, what do I do now? Should I sit back and wait for responses, or should I start to edit the article to add more arguments for support?

Thanks for your help.--Keith 17:08, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Looking over the article and it's history, I'd say you've done the right thing by starting a conversation on the talk page first. Some articles are very, very prone to advertising, spam, and promotional editing. Editors who have cleaned up those articles are usually very quick to react to strange edits that are not supported with neutral cites and lack a good summary. A solid editor named Quarl (talkcontribs) has been watching that page, and will probably be delighted to work with you to address your concerns and improve the article. If someone does not respond to your note on the talk page in a few days, start adding some content to the article as you see fit - just be very careful to source your statements and always be very clear in the edit summaries on what you're trying to do. I'm afraid I'm not terribly versed on the exact topic, other than working in financial institutions for 20 years - I've not seen the specifics for that type of loan. Otherwise, I'd be happy to help. If I can offer any other advice or help in any way, please let me know... Kuru talk 02:46, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

AfDs

I saw your vote on Alex Martelli's. The short story is that a bad-faith editor is doing scattershod AfD's on articles simply because I created them. If you feel like opining at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Danny Yee (second nomination), I'd welcome that too. It's unfortunate that Yee had a prior article that failed to properly assert notability, and was deleted... I believe overall, Yee is of similar notability as Martelli (in a somewhat different way, but not entirely different). LotLE×talk 21:40, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Glenn Beck

Dear Kuru, As a new contributer to Wikipedia, I am appalled by your characterization of my contribution to the Glen Beck page as "Vandalism." Every element of my small contribution to the section devoted to the subsection, "Glenn Beck on Headline News." was factual and pertinent to the topic. What you may consider "Vandalism" will no doubt be regarded as honest and worthy commentary by many others. In fact, my insertion is merely a collection of pointed observations by an objective and unbiased viewer who had never heard of Glenn Beck before two days ago and could therefore have not held any previous opinion on him as a broadcaster one way or another, as opposed to someone like you who seems to be motivated by a distinct political agenda and affinity for Mr. Beck's extremist views. Through my addition to this entry, I was seeking merely to add a deeper perspective and analysis to the extraordinary circumstances under which a major news organization with a reputation for objectivity would hire such an inflammatory persona to fill their most watched newshour.

An intent to disparage Mr. Beck or create vandalism on this site would have included the use of abusive language, indiscriminant commentary, and extensive changing of any of the ten subcategories or frames prior to the section devoted to "Glenn Beck on Headline News." Instead I limited my comments to a only few sentences devoted to the reasons why CNN picked up this controversial host that was literally buried within the body of the entire article in the eleventh subsection, and addressed an area of expertise which I am qualified to contribute.

As someone truly alarmed by the decline of our nation's civility, morality and decency, my entry is a heartfelt contribution which no doubt runs contrary to much of the prevalent negative and biased political thought that dominates our nation and the irrational hopes expressed by Mr. Beck and his supporters for further war in the Middle East. Just because you do not agree with my contribution, I think you are being completely abusive to the spirit of Wikipedia, by engaging me in an "edit war" though your continued removal of my contribution and am writing to inform you that I intend to take this matter up with other editors at Wikipedia, who may question the political biases behind your ungracious actions, which from my perspective, are abusive and undemocratic. sincerely, Robert Schoen—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.252.98.130 (talkcontribs) .

There's no "edit war" here; I'm not a fan of the man myself. Your edit [9], however, was simply a random string of incoherent gibberish. I'm afraid you lost me at "his illuminati handlers" and "ongoing mind control programming of the general populace, including fluoridation, ELF signals from cell phone towers". I'm assuming at this point that your feigned indignation is simply an extension of this attempt at humor - feel free to take it up with the other editors who have also reverted your edits if I am incorrect. You have some way of determining which are not mind controlled, I presume. Kuru talk 19:06, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Talk:Ballotechnics

Hi Kuru, You helped us so much over at the proposed deletion of the Sharon Weinberger page, that I was hoping you would be so kind as to help us again on a page Talk:Ballotechnics about a related topic. The last issues on the talk page are of current concern. I think all participants make good points, but at least two of us are new at this and do not know how to revise a title of a page to preserve the historical development of the topic while showing that the page is dealing with the same topic that appears in technical literature under a different name. The details of our concern are already stated at the bottom of the talk page. Sorry if this is not the "correct" way to get help. All advice and education is appreciated. Many thanks.

Leadership

Kuru & AbsoluteDan,

Allow me to clarify why The Noble Leader is a legitimate external link.

I am writing a book on leadership, not just my 'musings' on leadership in a blog. I've spent several years researching the topic, and am considered an expert on the topic by my peer reviewers. If you're in doubt, then actually read what's on the website - not just what's on the front page.

Your point that I shouldn't add my own link is reasonable and I accept that. That's not a problem. It was a reviewer of mine that suggested that I put the link on Wikipedia. He thought it would be worth sharing. I will mention to him that it's not appropriate for me to add it, and will suggest that he do so.

Additionally, I've changed my approach on my own website. I will not publish "rough draft" material, but rather material ready for publication only. This may reduce the content somewhat, but everything within would be considered expert opinion by reasonable leadership aficionados.

There's one other thing that I want to say here. Wikipedia is about all of us. It's not just about your view of what you consider legitimate or not. I'm not in this for selfish reasons. I am passionate about leadership, and have spent years learning about it. I have a right to share my knowledge and a link to my book's non-commericial website is reasonable act.

Please stop forcing your views of what is spam on other Wikipedians.

Sincerely, Chris Benson —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.23.201.99 (talkcontribs) .

Problem: Mis-numbering and doubling of references

Kuru, a number of us are having problems with articles in which the references have somehow mis-numbered themselves and the Reference section lists each reference twice. You suggested emptying the articles' page caches by appending ?action=purge to the page URLs. That temporary fix works ... but only until someone edits the page and triggers that same mis-behavior. Please, is there some way you could alert the appropriate administrators that someone or something has screwed up the use of Cite.php references?? Thanks in advance. I will watch here for your answer. - mbeychok 07:21, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Texas deletion

Wikipedia:Verifiability#The policy says that the "The obligation to provide a reputable source lies with the editors wishing to include the material, not on those seeking to remove it." There were NO sources cited in the paragraph that anonymous editor removed. He had the right to remove it without any explanation. ClairSamoht 15:57, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

There's nothing I can see that contentious about the statements; they are easily supported by the general HBOT citation given at the bottom of the article. If you'd like links to the specific parts of the HBOT, please ask. Random deletions from the article without comment are not productive or useful for improving the article. Thank you for the feedback. Kuru talk 16:20, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Since he deleted them, it appears that he disputes those statements. FWIW, I suspect you're right that the statements are easily supported. But if it's easy, you should simply support the statements with citations. That way, he'd be in the wrong in deleting them without explanation, instead of you being in the wrong for reverting.
The question isn't whether you think or I think the statements are contentious. The question is whether they have sources cited. Wikipedia policy puts the burden on you, as the person who wants to include the statements, not on him, as the person who wants to delete them.
If one clicks on the Handbook of Texas Online link (which took me a long time to find; HBOT is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, and you're talking about HBTO) at the bottom of the article, you don't find anything that supports those statements; instead, you find a search engine. Hell's bells, if that's citing sources, you might as well put a link to google on the sidebar, and claim that everything is cited. But if we do that, might as well shut down Wikipedia, and put a redirect to Google.
If you're unclear on Wikipedia policy, check out Wikipedia:Citing Sources. If you simply want to know how to cite sources, Cite.php is recommended as the preferred means of citing sources, and you'll find great documentation at Wikipedia:Footnotes ClairSamoht 22:58, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, it appears that he simply removed an entire section of easily sourced text. Without some entry in the edit summary, some attempt at explanation on the talk page, or some history of contention over that section, it appears to be either an accidental deletion or blanking. Since this isn't a WP:BLP issue, and since there is a general cite on the page, I have no problems with simply reverting the deletion and adding a query to the user's talk page, which I did. This occurs with great frequency, and while I try to use discretion as outlined above, this would seem to be a fairly random deletion which warranted reversion. While the burden is indeed on the person supplying the information, it might be wise to verify that there is indeed a contention, or even a request, first.
You have my apologies for using an acronym; I had assumed you frequented the article, or Texas related articles in general. The Handbook of Texas (HBoT) is actually a very large published book, and you're looking at the online version of it. I left specific links to the pages in question several hours ago to avoid just this confusion. It is no more an invalid reference than any other general publication cite. The correlation to 'google' is a bit of a stretch, but I see your point.
As to my familiarity with fundamental concepts in citation on Wikipedia, you can probably simply assume that I've been here a while and that I'm very familiar with them; feel free to look at my history. I'd be happy to work with you to address specific concerns about an article, but let's both dial it back a bit and look at the problem: you feel that there are large segments of the article that lean on a very general reference and should probably point to specific parts of it? Is that the gist of it? Kuru talk 23:51, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

wrong attribution in comment

You listed your comment as (revert: vandalism (to last version by Hack-Man)) in changes you made to the entry for WWE's Jonathan Coachman. Please be more careful whom you defame in the future. Hack-Man 22:53, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

The 'to' refers to the version being reverted to - not the name of the person vandalizing the article; I could care less about them. I'm sorry. You've posted a link to your site/forums on about 20 different randomly selected engineering articles, and I really can't see what it adds to any of them. Please consider using your knowledge of the subject matter to add content to the articles you're editing; I'm afraid that it is not appropriate to advertise your site here. Please read the applicable guidelines for external links. Kuru talk 19:24, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Kuru, I admit that it was a bad idea to advertise the links on 20 pages. But they weren't randomly chosen. For each page that is a specific engineering field, I would make an external link to my site for that specific field. ex. Aeronautical engineering in wikipedia will have an external link to aeronautical engineering on engineersvoice.com. Apart from the fact that engineersvoice.com is still quite new and doesn't have much discussions going on yet, I'd love to make it a learning and discussion place for engineering topics. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

external links

Hi Kuru.

Can you please clarify me when an external link is acceptable and when an external link to a page featuring a product is OK? There are articles that relates to a specific technology, and links to different softwares that use/exemplify the technology. They can contribute a lot to people understanding of the method/technology in question due to the explanations on the product page and a free trial that is often offered. Best wishes,

Meesk —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xcasejet (talkcontribs) .

Hi, Meesk. The links you added to several general I/T topic pages were simply added to promote your product. They do not in any way add to the content of the article and are not acceptable per the guidelines I provided on your talk page (WP:EL). Please feel free to add neutral content to the article that expands on the topic, but we are not here to promote specific commercial products, even if they have a free trial. Thanks!. I'm inclined to replace that AfD tag with a speedy-delete tag. Would that be a breach of protocol? ForDorothy 05:22, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I was simply restoring an AFD tag that had already been added. It looked like all prods, speedies, and even AFD tags had been removed by multiple IP address users; making it difficult to get the attention of an admin. Would not hurt to re-add the speedy along side the regular AFD process. Kuru talk 12:23, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Kuru:

The link to jlenders.com is spam. The website is owned by a company called EastLand Mortgage at http://www.eastlandmortgage.com and the "NY mortgage" link on the jlenders.com page leads directly to them. They disguised the page in a way to make it "appear" to be some type of portal when in fact it is nothing more than spam site to drive clients looking for financial assistance in NY to their site.

Question on removal of commentary in State Farm Insurance Page

Hi,

I'd like to know why you removed the commentary on State Farm Insurance page. Especially when the vandalism were commited by state farm employees. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 124.180.208.5 (talkcontribs) .

You can read my response on the talk page of the user who left the comment here. In summary, random commentary about the article or about other users is more appropriate for the talk page of the article, or, in this case, on the talk pages of the users you are having a dispute with. Simply leaving an individual vandalism related warning on their pages suffices. Please let me know if you have any other questions, or if I can help you find those talk pages. I have the State Farm page bookmarked now, and will assist in reverting obvious vandalism. Kuru talk 03:04, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Lally

Hello Kuru: The Consumer Value Index that we publish is made available to all major editors in the financial and business media. The CPI became unreliable to consumers about 10 years ago when the policymakers started to use hedonic adjustments. What this has done is lower the annual number from what really is going on with "prices". This has been discussed for the passed several years by Congress, Bill Gross (PIMCO), the AARP and many financial analysts. To help consumers get a more honest look at what the economy is doing to them, this index called the "Lally Consumer Value Index" (LCVI) was created and distributed. It would seem appropriate to include a note in your CPI page to make consumers aware of this tool to help them become more independent in investing and managing their lifestyle.

Regards: Eugene F. Lally

That's fantastic, Mr. Lally. I'm sure you're doing a great job of constructing your index and doing your best to relay it to consumers. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is probably not the best avenue for communicating this information. We are bound by a few core policies that make it difficult to accept your work in either the Consumer price index article, or in an article of your own. The primary problem is that of verification - there simply appears to be no independent confirmation that such an index exists. I was unable to find any reference to it whatsoever. The second problem is that it would appear to be original research, it is simply your personal take on a problem. There are several 'guideline' issues that are problems as well, but please try to understand that this is really a vehicle for encyclopedic entries on notable topics; it's nothing personal, and I'm sure your work is solid. I would encourage you to continue to improve existing articles by improving content and adding material in a neutral manner. There are many other ways to get the word out on LCVI - blogs, portals, etc. Let me know if there is any way I can help you. Kuru talk 03:30, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Dear Kuru:
Not sure how/where to respond but thank you for the note about our Consumer Value Index. I will follow your lead and work other avenues. Appreciate your help. I am not handy with navigating on Wiki so please forgive me, but hope to learn.
E. Lally

Eh, excuse me...

But I was merely trying to reverse the edit to South Park back to it's original state, rather than vandalize it. This is because it had been done several times over, and I reverted it to one of the earlier vandalizations. I was attempting to reverse it back to it's oldest format. --205.250.14.232 04:11, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

It happens - reverting back to a previous vandalized version is indistinguishable from actual vandalism. Please be careful! I'll drop the warning from your talk page. Good luck! Kuru talk 04:16, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

Question

Hi, I was checking the editing on TA Software and found you removed (www dot stockwrap dot com). I went to the site and downloaded the software? Its actually excellent for a free program. I also found about it at (Trade2win dot com). Perhaps we should consider a revision?

Chris (November 27 4:40pm)

That's nice that you like the software. It would appear to be completely non-notable otherwise, and I would prefer not to have it promoted here by inserting random external links. Thanks. Kuru talk 13:23, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

StockWrap Express Chart

Hi MER-C I refer you to the following points which were not addressed:

  1. A page has been created for TA software as per Technical Analysis Software, and admins have contested every software placed on this page? what is the point of a TA software page if every article is contested?
  2. Requested assistance for rewrite of the article yet no help has been offered.
  3. "You have not demonstrated why this software is notable. MER-C 08:54, 28 November 2006 (UTC)" - I again refer you to Merchant of Venice (computer program) by Brick Thrower - who is a notable java programmer and the program is written in java. Furthermore, I see no evidence that this meets proposed guidelines either under Critera - How is the StockWrap page created any different from this ?

Thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 60.241.205.210 (talkcontribs) .

Your concerns were addressed by User:MER-C at the debate on your page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/StockWrap Express Charts. To sum up: Wikipedia is not a vehicle to promote your software. I would love to help you dress up your article, but I can't get past the fact that it simply does not seem all that notable. I can't see any way it meets our informal guidelines on the topic, and I don't see anything special outside of that. If you see other articles which also fail this criteria, we can debate those as well. I'm very, very sorry if this all seems like your program is being picked on, we're simply trying to avoid Wikipedia becoming a random directory of every program out there. Kuru talk 13:31, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the response Kuru. I guess we thought the software was considered notable because it really is a comprehensive platform that is offered completely free of charge to TA traders. Not many other packages offer same features etc etc. In accordance with notable however, it doesnt get there - but our consideration was to the Technical Analysis Software and users of Technical Analysis Software, more than anything. Either way thanks for the comments and discussion. User:StockWrap 13:31, 29 November 2006 (GMT)

Articles for creation

Kuru, I'm the guy who proposed the articles, "Paul is Dead" clues from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and "Paul is Dead" clues from Magical Mystery Tour earlier. The reason I proposed these articles is because the existing "Paul is dead" article is currently 42 kilobytes long. Transferring the content of the clues subsections to new articles would significantly reduce the size of the main article -- permanently. 71.96.141.116 4:49 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I see! I figured there was some reason behind that. I'll back out the declines. Kuru talk 04:57, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I think a lot of people will be glad to have a permanent solution to the article size.

Modulation Sphere - article for creation - 29/11/06

My friend Kuru,
I have created "modulation sphere" as of November 29th, but noone has approved, or even declined it.

I saw the problem and rewrote it from scratch.

Clearer(?) (as clear an article aboun advanced communication, laser and gravitational wave measurement can be(!)),

Wikified and more explanatory, I believe is now a stronger candidate for Wikipedia. Please check again.

Thanks!

Btw, please don't be too cruel- it is only my 1st article, and I saw it on most wanted for the last two years by wikipedia - so I decided to take my chance.

Business Process

I noted that you removed the "Under construction" note from the History section in the Business Process article. This is ok for me, if you consider this section as being appropriate now. However, I might add some additional sub-sections to elaborate on that topic. Regards, --Kai a simon 22:37, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Articles/sections are always under construction; and I certainly think your interim product is sufficiently stable - aside from the buzzword complaint from another editor. There's a {{Underconstruction}} template you can use, but it's really for warning other editors that you're making significant revisions over a short period of time to avoid edit conflicts. As you've had the notice up for three weeks or so, it just didn't seem useful to convert to the template. Just keep making the excellent additions and expansions you've been making. Kuru talk 03:31, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
The buzzword tag was already there before I made my first edit. I suggested to remove it (on the talk page), but haven't received any feedback. Is is feasible to remove it myself, if I believe that the complaint is no longer valid?

Laurence James

Ok, the request to add Laurence James was a little odd. Apparently he's one of many authors that use the shared "house name" of James Axler to publish their books, but he's also published several books on his own. Do you know the precedent for this type of arrangement? He seems semi-notable on his own - would love feedback. Kuru talk 02:13, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't have strong feelings. Feel free to get rid of the merge request. My concern was that his article says nothing about him except that he used this name. Maybe you could make the article about him say that he wrote other books? NickelShoe (Talk) 02:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Since it's a request from WP:AFC, my enthusiasm approximates yours. I will add the additional information I found while verifying the source, add a few refs, and drop the merge request. Hopefully the anon will notice the activity and join up to flesh out the remainder of the article. :) Kuru talk 02:23, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Not sure why you reverted my contribution with the comment low content blog. That's great. I'm sure that at some point your blog will become well traveled and will house a great deal of useful information. Adding it as a link in the Leadership seems to only promote a very low content blog, and really add little to nothing to the article itself. Perhaps you could use your know of the subject matter to improve the article itself, instead of linking to external sites? You can find the relevant guidelines on external links at WP:EL. If you're still not sure why the link is inappropriate, please let me know. Kuru talk 04:28, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Is there any way of getting the Xoán guy banned or just locking the XO page? It's getting rather old to keep reverting the page. Thanks for keeping an eye on the page by the way. -Yupik 12:51, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

It's kind of a problem. He's using a different IP almost every time he edits, so you can't block him. Even if he used the same IP, there are such large gaps between his edits that the only solution would be a long block; and it's a really bad idea to block any given IP address for a long time. The article could be semi-protected, but that's usually only done for short periods of time as well. He also has started randomly changing facts on other articles as well, so solving the problem at XO would probably just spread elsewhere. I'll type something up and ask a few of the more experienced admins for advice - the solution may just be to have the articles on a few more people's watchlists. Thanks very much for helping, though. That has to be the strangest vandal I've seen so far. Kuru talk 13:49, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Afc protocol question

I haven't been doing this, and guess I should... Is it appropriate to put the {{attack}} and such tags on ISP and user pages for those that put that nonsense on the AfC board?

And, if so, and I really can't see a logical place for this, perchance a note on the Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Templates page for the appropriate template for each of the "Decision templates that can be used for declined articles".

Thanks for your advice! SkierRMH 07:10, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

You're probably right - I have not been doing it either. Most of the time, the 'personal attacks' are against some random guy from their school and not against a specific Wikipedia editor, so I've simply deleted the edits and moved on. There have been a few instances where a nonsense AFC request has been part of a pattern of vandalism or personal attacks, and I'll definitely place a warning then.
The other problem is that I'm usually closing out AFC requests that occurred twenty edits ago, and I'm really cautious about warning people assuming that the IP or user in the signature of the item was the actual person that made the edit. AFC requests can turn into mush pretty fast, and trying to sort out who did what is pretty time consuming.
I'm for warning when the attacks are against other editors, but the usual nonsense and tests should probably just be cleared. Kuru talk 14:47, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

uncited promotional material and external link, how to avoid?

Hi,

You reverted my contribution as “uncited promotional material and external link”.

I do not question it, as I think Wikipedia is a very good source of info that I used on a regular basis. So do not want to spoiled it.

I do think howerver thet there is real content and value in the text and link I posted. When I started work on conversion a few years back, I could not find valuable free documentation. All I ended-up with, where baith to get me to buy a book or services. This is not my intention here and I really think the text is worthwhile to anyone engaging in an ERP conversion.

What must I do to make it neutral (i.e. non-promotional) ?

Thanks for making Wikipedia what it is.

My user name is Cvcby

I'm very sorry, but you've added a link to your own personal page which seems to primarily be a vehicle for promoting your resume. You've also added the links to a variety of pages which have only a tangential relationship with the subject matter. While I'm sure your methodologies are excellent, I'm afraid the links simply seem promotional in nature. Please read the guidleines for external links and remember that is it far more desirable to add actual relevant content to the articles instead of trying to create a directory of links. Kuru talk 14:31, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the answer. I will look at the guidelines and make sure I respect them. The little text I wrote is based on the principles behind the methodology. The methodology itself is too big to put in a page. I will make a page that is totally out of promotional interest and see how I can enrich the little text I did put in originally. Should be back after the holiday’s break. Best wishes to you --Cvcby 22:43, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Explanation for Dec 28 "run of nonsense"

Today is December 28, day of the Holy Saints in Mexico. In this country, tradition marks that we play jokes and pranks to our friends, similar to april fools, and then say "Inocente Palomita" to let them know they've been fooled. Indeed, today's edits where similar to the all popular April Fool's jokes in wikipedia... My intention was just good fun, and of course welcome reversion. Hari Seldon 15:57, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation. I'm afraid that my limited spanish was changing "Inocente Palomita" into "Inocente Palomita de maiz" and "innocent popcorn" didn't really explain much. Of course, 40 years in San Antonio you'd think I would have run across this aspect of the Holy Innocents Day - I've learned something new. My apologies... :) Kuru talk 19:32, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

My apology

I’ve had email discussions with Mr Dawkins and I find that this man is not open to any agreement, for instance he wrote a book review on a book which didn’t dismiss the theory of evolution, it just discussed the problems with the theory. The review he wrote was appalling he didn’t use real science and he poked fun at the author. When I wrote to Mr Dawkins just to ask him why he didn’t dismiss the author scientifically . He wrote a very rude message to me without actually using science. I think there should be a critics section on Mr Dawkins page, this is due to the fact he does not defend his believe he just attacks others.

For the record I am not even a creationist. 83.245.18.248 22:52, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
