Bannister Mall improvements[edit]

Needs sourcing in a lot of places, particularly reasons for closing.

  • 1991 - mall already had reputation for high crime.

  • Need more specific sources, but general view seems to be that crime and more importantly perception of crime (as percentage of minority racial groups increased in the area, more people believed the mall was unsafe, regardless of whether or not this was actually true) led to mall's demise.
    • Details changes in racial makeup of the area, "Crime - or at least a perception of it - became a concern."
