My Political Personality is an independent and anonymous political personality test which uses a Likert scale to assess responses to 15 statements regarding political ideology and political engagement.[1][2] The test harnesses a matching algorithm that applies weights to 20 unique personality traits. The respondent is then matched to one of eight unique political personalities.[3]

The Political Personality Test[edit]

The political personality test uses a series of questions to determine how closely a respondent matches a personality archetype. The methodology questions include those which assess respondents on two axes: political engagement versus value preference.[4] It is built off of an Oxford model that finds a statistically significant causal correlation between the Big 5 personality traits and an individual's party loyalty.[5] The delta between a respondent's answers and the archetype's traits determines the suitability for the match.

The algorithm uses a least delta analysis to rate the probability that the archetype represents the respondent's behavioral profile.[6]

The 8 Political Personalities[edit]

The underlying model used by My Political Personality harnesses 8 archetypes: Astute Logician, Civic Observer, Freedom Steward, Growth Capitalist, Justice Warrior, Social Guardian, Stalwart Nationalist, and Utopian Virtuoso.[7] These personalities cover a spectrum of personality traits, including agreeableness, change appetite, engagement, idealism, and assertiveness.

When combined with particular policy preferences, these traits inform the probability that a particular respondent would actively engage in the political arena.
