'WikiProject Europe is a project committed to improving, expanding and co-ordinating Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to Europe: the continent, its people and their culture. It concentrates primarily on matters of a pan-European nature; including international organisations (outside the European Union. The project also manages the European portal.

The Project does not take responsibility for areas of Europe already covered by a project. For example, where a European country is covered by a national project or a regional project (WP:EEUROPE/WP:MICROSTATE). The project shall also not cover articles involving the European Union, Eurovision or European History. It does however support such project and allows them to share resources such as peer review. Small projects are welcome to become taskforces.

Reasons for founding WikiProject Europe[edit]

There are a large number of articles that are pan-European in nature, yet are not covered by WP:EU. For example, European people or the Council of Europe. Some articles have been falsely listed under EU for lack of alternative. Overlap in others areas where there are small projects is also causing an ineffective use of manpower and resources, by providing a parent project for Europe those projects can be aided or integrated.

For these reasons, there has been strong support for the idea, and the project should easily be able to draw upon the large memberships of existing European Projects, notably WP:EU.

It is my intention to use WP:SEUROPE as the base. It has only two members and its scope overlaps with national projects, the Microstate project, the Former Yugoslav project, and the Eastern Europe project. I would also propose other projects be integrated such as Microstate, Eurovision and potentially Eastern Europe.
