Brief bio[edit]
I was born in Bangladesh and lived there during early childhood. After that, I moved to Queens in New York City. Soon after that, I moved to Pennsylvania and have lived there since then. I'm currently in my twenties and a student at Pennsylvania State University studying Statistics and Geography.
Hobbies, interests, and skills[edit]
Religion, politics, and other stuff[edit]
I was raised as a strict textbook Muslim but I eventually left the religion. I can talk about that in some of my online work, but obviously not in person because there are relatives who would put a bounty on my head if they found out. Thankfully, I don't think they know Wikipedia exists. My religious views right now could be described as some fusion of Spirituality and Deism.
My political views would best be described as libertarian, with some exceptions. I arrived at these conclusions over time through research about the human condition as well as my own intuition and influence of some people in my life.
Languages[edit]
- Bengali
I was born in Bangladesh and had some tutoring at a very early age, so even today I can still follow along with a news program on TV, converse effectively, and read and write Bengali at an elementary level. I have software on my laptop to write in Bengali. But the vocabulary level in Bengali Wikipedia is way too advanced for me (Google Translate does a terrible job at helping when I don't understand something). So I usually don't touch Bengali Wikipedia unless I find a serious typo or an orphan article that needs interwiki links, or something like that.
- English
I grew up and went to school in the United States (almost entirely in Pennsylvania). I speak with a slight Philadelphia suburb accent. I've always been a really good writer. I can write really long term papers where the first draft comes out perfect. I rarely, if ever, make spelling or grammar mistakes (some grammar mistakes are intentional because they make more sense to me). I also worked at Kumon centers for over four years and I would always teach the older kids there how to write well. I honestly prefer humor writing more than the serious stuff on Wikipedia, which is why I'm a contributor on Uncyclopedia.
- French
I took four years of French in middle and high school. In university, I've taken a few French classes but they honestly haven't helped me learn much. A couple years ago I started watching French fansubs and dubs of popular movies and TV shows (especially Futurama and some anime, like InuYasha and Tsubasa Chronicle). This is what helped me get good at French. Oh yeah, and all the people from France I found online on a pen pal site (InterPals). They also helped a lot. I can carry myself in conversation pretty well, and I sometimes read the French Wikipedia and newspapers (especially Le Parisien). But for the most part, you won't see me do much on French Wikipedia because I can't write professional quality stuff in French.

I'm enrolled in an online Russian course at the moment. We'll see how that goes.
- Hindi
Because I'm fluent in Bengali, I can understand Hindi and follow along in Bollywood movies. I wouldn't say I speak it. I can read Devanagari but that's not really useful if I don't know any language that uses that writing system.
Wiki work[edit]
Wikipedia[edit]
I don't really contribute anything that big to articles here. Sometimes I will translate things from one language to another. Other times I'll make little corrections here and there. I would really like to contribute more in articles related to the Indian subcontinent. Check out my India reading list here.
One huge pet peeve I have on English Wikipedia is that articles seem to be written in a very America-centric way. You know, like how some place might be referred to as "Allentown, Pennsylvania" while another place might be "London, Canada." Where IS London, Canada? It really bothers me because I know for a fact that most countries that follow federalism and span a large area with many diverse people, cultures, etc. will distinguish their individual regions. Hyderabad (capital of Andhra Pradesh) is drastically different from Hyderabad in Sindh. And even in individual countries you'll see a lot of cities that have the exact same name. So it's not enough to say "Springfield, USA." So why do we do it for other countries?
Other Wikimedia[edit]
The only significant thing I did in another Wikimedia was translate this article into French (see here). It was only slightly better than Google Translate (which was starting to get really good for European languages). But I couldn't vote because I didn't have enough edits. Oh well.
