Books I've Read: Short Description[edit]

Salt to the Sea[edit]

One of my favorite books by Ruta Sepetys. Four people fighting for safety. They don't know what's happening next.

This book has one crossover - Joana, which is a nurse, and from Lithuanian town of Biržai is Lina's cousin from another Ruta Sepetys book called Between Shades of Gray, who is departed to Siberia on night of June 14th (June deportation), because Joana escaped to Nazi Germany.

Joana met Florian, a boy from East Prussia and Emilia, a girl from Lwów on the way to Gotenhafen, where ship will take them as refugees (most refugees were people from East Prussia, Baltic States) to Kiel. That ship was called MV Wilhelm Gustloff. Alfred, who is admirer of Adolf Hitler and citator of Mein Kampf joins them later on.

I Must Betray You[edit]

Another favorite book by Ruta Sepetys, about teenage boy Cristian, who lives in communist Romania.

1989. Soviet influence on Eastern European countries began to weaken. Cristian had heard from radio that Hungary has been broken from Soviet influence.

His grandpa, "bunu" in the book Cristian he calls him that, was a revolutionary who dreamed about Romania being free from Ceauşescu regime. Cristian, later on, becames a revolutionary.

His grandpa was sick and he needed medication to feel better. Keep in mind, that his family - mother, sister and later him, - were enrolled by Romanian secret police to spy on each other, as you cannot trust someone, even your family members.
