From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

RootsWorld is an online publication, founded in March 1995, that covers the latest recordings and artists in the area of roots music[1].

The publication, with its companion email newsletter, focuses on world music, from traditional folk music to jazz and rock hybrids[2]. The RootsWorld website features artist profiles, podcasts, downloadable music files and a vast library of CD reviews divided into various regions[3].

RootsWorld was an early "ShareZine" because Cliff Furnald, the editor, asked readers to contribute towards its costs. Subscribers to the publication receive regular email updates.[4].

For several years, RootsWorld has sponsored the Free Reed Festival, featuring the music of the accordion, the harmonica, and exotic instruments from India and China[5]. The festival is produced in a way that focuses attention not on the machinery of music, but on the artists from around the world who use the machines, and it showcases the wide range of music the accordion world offers[6].
