Song

"Fix Me" is the first single from Swedish singer Velvet's second studio album The Queen. It was first released by Bonnier Amigo Music Group in Sweden on February 14, 2007 as a CD single and later as a digital download. Velvet was signed by American record label Robbins Entertainment with whom she subsequently released the song as an eight track maxi single. The song fared well in the United States, charting at number 14 on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart, though it failed to certify. By mid-2008, British record label Positiva Records had also signed Velvet and released the song as a promotional six track maxi single, though it failed to chart. For the British release, a new remix was produced by Gorgeous George and used as the single version.

Background and release[edit]

"Fix Me" is Velvet's fourth single after "Rock Down To (Electric Avenue)" (2005), "Don’t Stop Moving" (2006), and "Mi Amore" (2006) from her first album Finally (2006). It serves as the first single from her second studio album The Queen which was released on March 18, 2009.[1] The song was first released in Sweden by Bonnier Amigo Music Group on February 14, 2007 as a two track CD single,[2] and was followed by a digital release a week later on February 21.[3] This initial release included the original version of the song along with the "DiscoDisco" remix. Additional remixes were made available on June 19, 2007 when Bonnier released a twelve track single which included the two previously released tracks.[4] The song caught the attention of American record label Robbins Entertainment and was subsequently released in the United States as an eight track digital download maxi single on March 18, 2008,[5] with a CD single release on April 1.[6] By mid-2008, British record label Positiva Records decided to release the song as well and did so as a six track maxi single. Their version was released promotional only as a digital download on July 21, 2008,[7] with a physical release a week later on July 28.[8] Notable concerning the British release was that a new remix was commissioned and created by Gorgeous George. This track replaced the original version of the song and its radio edit served as the single version for the British market.[8][9]

Reception[edit]

"Fix Me" entered the Swedish Singles Chart at number 36 on the week of February 8, 2007 and reached its peak of number seven by its third week, becoming Velvet's fourth consecutive single to make the top ten in the country.[10] It remained on the chart for twelve weeks in total.[10] Following its American release, "Fix Me" entered the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart at number 21 in the magazine's May 24, 2008 issue,[11] and reached its peak of 14 during its seventh week on the chart.[12] It charted for a total of eight weeks and did not receive a certification by the Recording Industry Association of America.[13][14] Although it did not chart in the United Kingdom, the American news serial The Insider noted that it was "one of the most requested tracks across mainstream UK clubland".[8]

Music video[edit]

The music video for "Fix Me" was filmed in an industrial park in the North Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It was directed by Peter Svensson and Alec Cartio of Atlantis Pictures and includes a cameo appearance by Swedish model Beiron Andersson, who also worked on the production of the video along with its directors.[15] Cartio had previously worked with Velvet on the music video for her 2006 single "Mi Amore".[15]

In the video, Velvet is mainly singing from a dimly lit double bed while being what Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet referred to as half naked.[15] The video consists of various scenes of Velvet singing in the hallway and on the bed, making out with Beiron, and other scenes of three other women making out with men. Throughout the video, a young man wearing glasses and a t-shirt with xxx on it watches the women through a slightly opened door.
